The DOs and DON’Ts of sharing
the roads with 18-wheelers
Brought to you by the
According to the US DOT, 18-Wheelers are involved with 1/8th of all traffic accidents. Out of the 500,000 accidents they are involved with, 5,000 deaths occur.
Considering Louisiana’s economy is heavily reliant on trucking, these accidents will continue, unless safety becomes a priority.
Bart Bernard doesn’t want you to become a victim of the trucking company’s lawyers.
DO• Follow at a safe distance. Trucks do NOT stop quickly.
• Pass quickly (within speed limit). You don’t want to be in their blind spots for too long.
• Watch for their turn signals and keep cautious when they are around.
• Allow semis to pass before you take the road.
DON’T• Tailgate. You cannot see in front of yourself and your car
could get hit with things from the road.
• Spend excessive time beside 18-wheelers. Blind spots are dangerous.
• Ignore turn signals or try to speed around them to make a turn.
• Cut them off. They cannot stop easily.
