Church of Saint Agnes March 8, 2020

Let’s meet for coffee TODAY! St. Agnes welcomes everyone to coffee hour after the 9am Mass today, Sunday, March 8th.

The Second Sunday of Lent

The Second Sunday of Lent (Traditional Latin Mass)

Stations of the Cross St. Agnes offers Stations of the Cross, lead by a Priest, every Friday in Lent. Stations will follow the 5:10PM Mass. Booklets are provided so we can all pray together. Note: A plenary indul-gence may be granted to those who piously pray the Stations of the Cross. The usual condi-tions of receiving the Eucharist, going to Confession, and prayers for the Holy Father apply.

Please give $20… This Lent, we ask you to please consider putting $20 in the collection basket and continue to do so whenever you can throughout the Lenten season. This would go a long way in helping us with our yearly deficit of $300,000. We have heard from parishioners who have increased their contributions that it didn’t affect their budget. Remember that you can donate online, too, through Zelle, using our email address: [email protected]

Thank you for supporting St. Agnes!

SAINT PATRICK’S DAY ANNUAL GAELIC MASS

Tuesday, March 17th – 9:00 AM

Celebrant: Fr. Aidan O’Drisscoll

Homilist: Fr. Michael Barrett

(homily to be given in English)

The readings will be in Irish, coordinated by Eileen Zurell.

Peggy Fabian will sing at the Mass accompanied by our Music Director, Alex Pattavina.

This Mass is offered

in memory of Margaret Barrett.

For more information, please contact Anna Megan at the rectory office (212 682 5722) or by e-mail at [email protected].

Easter Spiritual Bouquet… Now is the time to enroll your living and deceased friends and relatives into St. Agnes’s Spiritual Bouquet. Pick up an envelope in the rectory office, fill out your information, and include your offering. Your envelope will be placed on the Altar for all of our Easter Masses. You will also receive a special Mass card to send to your intention.

What is a Mass Card ? A Mass card, also known as a Mass offering card, memorial card, or a remembrance card, is a greeting card given to someone to let them know that they, or their deceased loved-one, will be remembered and prayed for in the intentions of a specific Mass.

Occasions for giving Mass Cards: While the most common reason for offering a Mass is for the repose of a departed soul, they can be arranged for several reasons, including the sick and the dying.

Remember Holy Souls! Holy Souls in Purgatory are completely dependent on our help and the Mass is the best prayer we can offer the Heavenly Father. In an act of charity this Lent, enroll Holy Souls into our Easter bouquet!

“We must empty purgatory with our prayers.”

- St. Pio of Pietrelcina

Addressing Coronavirus Concerns...

Due to the concern we all have about Coronavirus, we ask everyone to use caution and common sense if they are feeling sick. Please stay home if you need to so as to avoid spreading germs to others.

We have cleaned our church, including:

Outside door handles

Inside doorknobs

Communion Rail

Confessionals

Holy Water Fonts

Pews

We will continue to clean on a regular basis.

We recommend avoiding a handshake or kiss at the Sign of Peace. Please cover your nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing. These suggestions are made out of an abundance of caution, but are worth the effort.

For the most up-to-date information, please visit our website: www.stagneschurchnyc.org.

We will have a bagpiper in front of the church before and after Mass.

Please join us for this beautiful

celebration (and St. Agnes tradition!) for the Feast of St. Patrick.

St. Agnes works with Zelle for online church contributions

For the past few years, St. Agnes has worked with WeShare for online contributions. A new option is Zelle, which many parishioners might be familiar with. Zelle is accepted by major banks (including Wells Fargo, US Bank, Citibank, Chase, CapitalOne, and Bank of America, to name but a few) and is known for their easy platform for paying and receiving money. Simply go to Zellepay.com to get started. The email associated with Zelle for church contributions is: [email protected] Can I access Zelle to send or receive money without a

smartphone? If your bank or credit union offers Zelle, you may be able to use their online banking site to send and receive money without a mobile device. If your bank or credit union does not offer Zelle, then you must have a smartphone in order to access the Zelle app to send and receive money. Source: Zellepay.com

The Cardinal’s Appeal 2020

The Cardinal’s Appeal is underway! Pledge envelopes can be found in the back of the church. Mail your enve-lope to the Appeal office, place it in the collection basket at Mass, or bring it by the rectory office. Donations can also be made online at cardinalsappeal.org. Please reference St. Agnes by using our code: 045. Thank you!

What’s New in the Bookstore? Father Donald Haggerty’s newest book, “Contemplative Enigmas” is now in stock! From the publisher: This book concen-trates on the mystery of interior trial and difficulty in contemplative prayer. The poignant observations [in this book] have a source in the author's long years of ex-perience in retreat work with souls of con-templative depth. Personal experience,

not simply knowledge of the spiritual tradition, informs these insightful reflections.

“From the Depths of Our Hearts: Priesthood, Celibacy, and the Crisis of the Catholic Church” is in stock! From the publisher:

An unprecedented book co-authored by Pope Benedict XVI and Cardinal Robert Sarah

Looks seriously and unflinch-ingly at the crisis in the Church

A forthright discussion of priest-ly celibacy and its role in the Church

A book for clergy and laity alike concerned about the Church

Sunday collections for the month of February: $24,026.27

Please remember that St. Agnes operates at a deficit

each month. Our many expenses regularly exceed the donations given.

No flowers during Lent Flowers are not allowed in the church during the sea-son of Lent. Notable exceptions include Laetare Sunday, the Feasts of St. Patrick and St. Joseph, and the Annuncia-tion. Please do not bring flowers, as they will be discarded.

Current law calls for everyone 14 years and over to ab-stain from flesh meat on all Fridays of Lent. Abstinence does not include soup or gravy made with meat; they are allowed.
