Do you have a yearning and hunger for God? . Are you looking for peace, inner calm,
a greater sense of direction and discernment?
S.E.E.L. might be your answer. The retreat is an opportunity to experience and deepen one's
personal prayer life and to grow in one's relationship with God.
The Spiritual Exercises in Everyday Life invites persons to pray
through the Exercises of St. Ignatius with the guidance of a spiritual director in the course of an academic year.
The SEEL Retreat program is sponsored by Gonzaga University, Gonzaga Prep, the Della Strada Jesuit Community of Spokane and
St. Al's parish. For further information or questions about the Retreat, contact Jennifer Doolittle at [email protected] or call 509-313-5898. The retreat begins in September.

Prayer/Reflection God of mercy,
Bless us as we strive to find our way to true racial reconciliation. Open our eyes to all that goes on around us that contributes to racial injustice. Grant us the knowledge to understand all that we do, both personally and as a society, which prevents us from recognizing and defending the dignity of all our brothers and sisters, especially at this time, our brothers and sisters of color, who are now feeling so much pain. Grant us the grace to reflect on our own actions and inactions that contribute to this pain. And grant us the strength to take action to alleviate this pain by working to end racial injustice in all its forms. In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.
Phil Chick
Racism in the United States “Racism, at its core, is a set of meanings and values that inform the American way
of life. It is a way of understanding and interpreting skin color differences so that white Americans enjoy a privileged social status with access to advantages and
benefits to the detriment, disadvantage, and burden to persons of color.”
Racial Justice and the Catholic Church by Bryan Massingale. African American Priest, Prof at Fordham University.

“We need to reckon with our history of racial injustice. I think everything we are seeing is a symptom of a larger disease. We have never honestly addressed all the damage that was done during the two and a half centuries that we enslaved black people. The great evil of American slavery wasn’t the involuntary servitude;
it was the fiction that black people aren’t as good as white people, and aren’t the equals of white people, and are less evolved, less human, less capable, less worthy, less deserving than white people.
That ideology of white supremacy was necessary to justify enslavement, and it is the legacy of slavery that we haven’t acknowledged.”
Bryan Stevenson, author of Just Mercy
“Protests seek to reveal injustice and to disrupt our ‘normal’ way of life to create change.”
