Conference on Fossil and Recent Radiolarians, in

Cádiz, Spain, in March 2012. This year the meeting is

organized in honour of Paulian Dumitrica on the

occasion of his 75th birthday.!

The InterRad congress is a major international meeting

held once every 4 years under the auspices of the

International Association of Radiolarian

Palaeontologists. The meeting provides a showcase for

all that is exciting and new in the fields of radiolarian

palaeobiology, ecology, palaeontology and stratigraphy.

The 13th InterRad in 2012 is hosted by the InterRad

and partner organizations, and will be based in

University of Cádiz.!

The Monastery of San Miguel, located in El

Puerto de Santa María, is a reference Hotel in the

Bay of Cadiz. This former convent building,

reformed and rehabilitated to offer all kinds of

facilities, has an elegant atmosphere of tranquillity

and repose in the middle of an animated city

where you can perform all sorts of activities.

What was once a Capuchin Mothers Monastery is

now a hotel that has 175 rooms decorated in an

old style and it’s ready to welcome participants of

InterRad congress.

All sessions during the conference will take place

in the Auditorium, the former convent church,

make it ideal for this event.

Useful Information

• Arrival by AIR: The most economical airfare offers are generally to Jerez or Seville. Jerez International Airport (XRY) is the nearest airport. It is located 26 km away from the congress venue (Hotel Monasterio) in el Puerto de Santa María. Jerez Airport has daily connections with Madrid and Barcelona as well as different European airports (Amsterdam, Berlin, Brussels, Dusseldorf, Faro, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Hannover, London Stansted, Luxemburg, Munich, Stuttgart, Vienna, Zurich).

• Arrival by RAIL: Trains arrive to Cadiz station regularly from Madrid and Seville. From Madrid you can take the high-speed AVE train from Atocha Train Station, which takes 2 and a half hours to Seville, and then take a train direction Cadiz, getting off at El Puerto Train Station. There are trains every hour.

• Visas. Spanish is a member of the European Union; therefore no visa is needed for E.U. citizens and other States, which have signed up to the agreement on the European Economic Area, entering and remaining in Spain. Foreign nationals who wish to travel to Spain must be in possession of a visa, unless they are nationals from countries which are not included in the list of countries with the obligation to carry a visa in order to cross external borders for stays in the Schengen Area of no more than three months (90 days) in a period of six months (180 days) from the date of entry into the Schengen Area. Non ! E.U. participants should contact their nearest Spanish Embassy or Consulate for further information. Temperatures may sometimes reach well above 20º C, but the average temperature is 17ºC. Generally one should expect sunny days, probably with high humidity and perhaps cool nights that require warmer clothing.

GUIDELINES FOR AUTHORS

Oral Presentations

In order to encourage as much lively interaction and discussion as possible, the time allocated for oral sessions will be limited. Talks are scheduled for 20-minute time slots except for keynote talks (45 minutes). We strongly encourage a presentation around 15 minutes and of no more than 15 minutes to allow 3 to 5 minutes for discussion and to entertain questions from those in the audience. Be sure to limit the presentation to the time allotted.

Lecture room will be equipped with one PC/MAC video projector together with a pointer, and one large screen. Additional technical equipment, such as an overhead or a slide projector, video recorder, etc. could be available upon request. One projectionist will be present in the lecture room. S/he will collect presentations and help the chairperson and speakers.

Poster

General display time is from 08:30–19:30 h during the four days of the Congress. Authors are kindly asked to put up their posters the first day as soon as possible (08:00–08:30 h).

In general, one numbered poster board is reserved for each poster paper. Dimension of the Posters will be no larger than 100 cm width and 130 cm high (standard DIN A0 size). All the material necessary for attaching the poster to the poster board will be available at the "Facility Desks" in the poster area.

During the poster sessions, the authors are kindly asked to stand near their posters for interview and discussion.

A "Young Scientist Outstanding Award" is organized to motivate the younger participants in the assembly to present contributions.

FINANCIAL SUPPORT FOR POST-GRADUATE STUDENTS

The International Association of Radiolarian Paleontologists (InterRad) and the Organizing Committee are pleased to announce some financial support for post-graduate students attending the conference. Students being members of InterRad must apply directly to the Organizing Committee prior to 15th November for these grants. Please contact the organizing committee with the following information:

- Name and surnames. - Brief one page CV. - Interest in the Conference. - Abstract - One recommendation letter from supervisor or colleagues.

Applications will be evaluated by the organizing committee. The final resolution of applications will be announced on December 01, 2011.

Abstract submission !

• Participants wishing to make a presentation on the results of their recent research are cordially invited to submit an abstract according to the instructions below.

• Each registered participant can submit only two abstract (one for oral presentation + one for poster), but may be a co!author in any number of submissions.

• Abstracts cannot be accepted unless payment is received first.

• On-site payment for authors will NOT be accepted.

• Deadline for both abstract submission and payment is December 01, 2011

• Contribution should be submitted only by email to: congreso.interrad13@uca.es

Abstracts should be clear, concise and written in English with correct spelling and good sentence structure.

When abstracts are submitted, the authors must indicate their preferred format for presentation (oral or poster). However, the final decision belongs to the Organizing Committee, based on the number and quality of submitted abstracts.

Abstract should include a concise and clear title, with Author(s) listed with full name(s), Institution, and email.

Two pages (ca. 4500 characters including spaces) is the maximum total length of abstracts; Tables, images and references can be included in the abstract (if necessary).

Abstracts that are accepted, and for which a presentation (oral or poster) has been confirmed, will be printed in the InterRad 2012 Abstract Volume. This publication is distributed to all participants (available also in pdf form in a stick memory).

The final decision concerning an abstract is taken by the Scientific Committee of InterRad 2012, which will notify the abstract definitive approval before January 15, 2012. In this sense, an e-mail address is obligatory in order to receive information about the abstract via the web.

Revue de micropaléontologie is one of five journals in the world dedicated exclusively to microfossils, and one of the oldest journals in its discipline. Articles are concerned with a range of current topics in Paleobiology, Paleobiodiversity, Evolution, Systematics, Biostratigraphy and Paleoenvironmental reconstructions, especially those that allow linking the microfossil record to global climate and environmental change.

Marine Micropaleontology and Revue de Micropaleontologie (both published by Elsevier) would be

pleased to publish the peer-reviewed contribution to the congress. We are therefore planning two

memoriam of Kojiro Nakaseko recently deceased. Depending on how quickly original

manuscripts are submitted, and the reviewing and revision completed, papers could appear online

already by early 2013. !
