How is coal formed?

Describe the different stages of coal formation?

Anthracite: hardest and has a lot of carbon, which gives a more higher energy content.

Lignite: softest and low in carbon however it has high in hydrogen and oxygen

Bituminous: in between.

How is coal used as a fossil fuel?

The are grounded up and mixed with water to make slurry then it is pumped many miles through pipelines to fuel power plants and other factories.
