Dear Friends, Today is Catechetical Sunday at St. Anne’s. It’s a day to celebrate and thank those women and men who devote their precious time to help our young learn the faith they have received from their parents. These folks do so much for our community! As with any teacher, they don’t take the place of parents. Instead, they support them by supplementing what parents do and say to form their children. In effect, catechists help to clarify the connection between the lives our young have with their families, friends, teammates, and classmates, and Christ and his vision for us all. Our young need to know how to make that connection. Of course, the best way for parents and catechists to do this is to share how Christ gives our lives purpose. Nothing beats personal testimony for attracting young people to Christ. The key is to help them develop a friendship with the Lord. One sure way is by showing them that it grows by living the Catholic style of life and worship. It’s in that style that the Risen Christ becomes most real. But here’s the big problem that we all have to face: so many of us live such busy lives that it’s hard to do this. Most of us aren’t doing so out of bad faith. We’re just too busy! Unfortunately, this has meant sacrificing the one thing our young need...the one thing we all need. Do you remember the T.V. film last year - 13 Reasons Why ? It was a thought provoking presentation of what can happen when we lose touch with the one relationship that gives meaning and purpose to life. Christ, God, was absent from the lives of the people - teens and adults - in the story. We can see this same loss all around us. So many of our Confirmation candidates think of this sacrament as a kind of graduation from faith formation...and from their personal friendship with Christ. Can you imagine students thinking that algebra or geometry were all they had to learn about math? Math is but a tool for living. Christ is about the life that uses that tool! We have entered into a new era in how we learn how to follow the Lord. The old Catholic culture, the former Judeo-Christian style of American life, is no more. Going to Mass a couple times a year won’t cut it. Kids see right through that. Those days are over. We’re in a new time that needs new approaches to our religious lives. I know that I don’t have all the answers. But I do know that we need to speak with each other about more effective ways to support families and individuals in living their faith. That will mean trying new disciplines that can help us all to gather together to worship and relearn our faith. We use disciplines all the time to build athletic skills into lives of our young. The same spirit can help them and the rest of us to rebuild a sense of Christ into life. Let’s begin by looking at how we can structure time for weekly Mass and time for deepening our appreciation for Christ into our l ives. Let’s talk about how to do this. Love, Fr.Joe

Dear Friends,

Today is Catechetical Sunday at St. Reasons Why ? We use disciplines all the time to build athletic skills into lives of our young. someone who is considering having an abortion,

here is a number they might call that could be of

help to them to consider an alternative to this

practice. The number is

1-800-395-HELP (4357).

For the month of November, Pope Francis asks us to pray especially

...that Christians in Africa, bearing witness to the Gospel in word and deed, may promote dialog, peace, and mutual understanding, especially with those of other religions.

REFLECTION The Inward Stirring -John Ruysbroeck

The inward stirring and

touching of God

makes us hungry and yearning;

for the Spirit of God hunts our spirit;

and the more it touches it,

the greater our hunger

and our craving.

And this is the life of love in

its highest working,

above reason and above understanding;

for reason can hear neither

give nor take away from love,

for our love is touched

by the Divine Love.

STEWARDSHIP REFLECTION 31st Sunday in Ordinary Time “Whoever exalts himself will be humbled; but whoever humbles himself will be exalted.”

(Matthew 23:12)

Jesus gave his life to serve, not to be served. Putting other’s needs before our own needs is a sign of becoming a mature disciple, of following Jesus’ example. Humility is really a sign of a strength. By putting other’s needs first we declare to the world that we are putting our complete trust in God. When we align our thoughts and actions with God’s plan for us, the result is Joy and Peace.

THE HOLY NAME SOCIETY will meet on Sunday, November 12th for Mass at 9:30 am with meeting to follow in the Church Hall beginning at 10:30 am.

CREATION AT THE CROSSROADS For the next six weeks, BTOR will NOT be meeting at its regular day/time.

Instead, the "Creation" small group will be meeting for the six weeks 10/12-11/16 in the Faith Center from 1-2:30 pm. Please consider joining us.

BTOR will resume its regular schedule (Thursdays, 1-2 pm, in the Faith Center) on December 7.

We are grateful to the 1,283 people who worshipped with us last weekend and contributed $10,810.00 in the offertory and $2,783.00 through Online Giving offertory,

which along with other fees and donations totaled $19,415.00. Our weekly expenses average out to $20,348.00.

Heating & Air Conditioning ~ Everyone knows that there are some months in which our electricity bill or heating bill is higher than

others. Well, it’s the same with the Church. As you know, we use an additional way of paying for our extra

energy months. In the back of the church each Sunday you will find separate ENERGY envelopes. If you should

happen to hit the jackpot that week, and wish to throw a dollar or two in that envelope, we’d greatly appreciate

it! You can throw these special envelopes right in the collection with your regular envelope. The energy

envelopes will not be mailed to you. They will simply be in the back of the church, so if you don’t spot them, be

sure to ask the ushers at your Mass. Thanks so much. And special thanks to those who have already been doing it

regularly. It makes a difference!!!

Online Giving…

You have the opportunity to make donations to our Sunday collection online! To sign up, go to the St. Anne website – www.stannefairlawnnj.org

There are several ways to access the system: 1. Underneath the scrolling slideshow on the home page, on the bottom right-hand corner, you will see a

light blue icon with a $ sign. Click that icon to go directly to the system.

OR 2. From the homepage, check the left-hand menu options. The second to last menu option says

“envelopes & online giving.” Click that link, and a page with various giving options will appear. Select the

Online Giving option to be taken directly to the system.

Once you are taken to the new site, click on the section that says Create New Account. Next you will see New User Account Registration. Fill out the form and click “submit.” When you are enrolled, you can go into Manage My Account, where you will see My Payment Methods. Here you can choose to have the funds deducted from your checking or bank account (you will need your routing and account numbers on hand). Under Manage My Account, you will also see Give a New Gift. There you will decide when and how much to give. (In the list, Offertory Collection means the Sunday collection.) You can select recurring or one time gifts. You also have the option to access all the other special envelopes you would normally find in your envelope packet and which are generally one-time donations. Each time you go to Mass, get a card that says “I have made my donation online” and put it in the collection when the usher comes around. Thanks so much for giving online!
