Auditor of State Mary Mosiman, CPA
Mary Mosiman has been serving as Iowa’s Auditor of State since May 13, 2013. Initially appointed by Gover-nor Terry Branstad to fill the unexpired term of her pre-decessor, she was elected to a full term in the November 2014 general election. Mary serves the State as the “Taxpayer’s Watchdog” and her Office is responsible for the audits of state agencies, counties, cities, school districts and other governmental subdivisions. The Office is also required to provide guidelines to CPA firms performing govern-mental audits, and plays a major role in fraud investi-gations around the State.
Previously, Mary served for 2 years as a Deputy in the Secretary of State’s Of-fice and 10 years as the elected Story County Auditor. Mary graduated from Iowa State University with a bachelor’s degree in Business/Accounting and is a Certi-fied Public Accountant. She is a member of the Iowa Society of Certified Public Ac-

countants (ISCPA), the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), the National Asso-ciation of State Auditors, Comptrollers and Treasurers (NASACT), the Ames Morning Rotary, and the Ames Chamber of Commerce. Update: Gods Mercy Orphanage, Kisoro Uganda
Thanks to the Rotary Club of North Scott A new kitchen, animal cages, and new plants are off to a great start.
Robbinah is shown with the new Passion Fruit plants
These show the site at the beginning of construction on the kitchen. The bottom 2 pictures show the piles of material hand made and compiled for the construction.
Greetings Merle
Below is a note I received from Robbinah today. She attached photos showing the early stages of the layout and con-struction of the kitchen financed by the generosity of North Scott Rotary. As you view the delivery of materials and construction process, do not think of it in the terms of construction in Ameri-ca. Don't look for the backhoe or cement truck. It is done with a spade and a strong back. Concrete is made by mixing ce-ment with sand, gravel and water, and all mixed by hand. Do not look for the perfect 8X8X16 concrete block. The blocks are formed by mixing clay with water and put into forms. It is the most common form of building material in this area of southwest Uganda. (In the bush, buildings are made from clay and termite mound dirt) Most roofs are thatch. A sign of prosperity is a roof made with corrugated steel sheets. A metal roof allows us the chance to add gutters, a downspout and the ability to harvest rain. The water is used for drinking, bathing, watering livestock and irrigating crops. Do not look for the perfectly sawed and finished lumber. (like a 2X4 or a 2X6) The lumber is harvested from local trees and looks more like poles. The last couple of pictures show the passion fruit vines planted near the kitchen, goat house and rabbit hutches. We may try grapes or some other fruit or vegetables. You will see Robbinah in one of the photos. Her Dad is overseeing the construction of the kitchen. It will be wonderful when completed. You may noticed places in the stone security fence that have been compromised. That will be the next project, as we must improve our safety and security. Hope you find the pictures interesting. If you download the pictures, you can blow them up for more detail.

Happy birthday to these Rotarians. Please sit together at the table with balloons and enjoy some cake!!
Due to rising costs for the operations of the North Scott Rotary Club, the board of directors has voted on a $5.00 per quarter, increase in dues, effective July 1, 2018. The basic dues for a 3 month period will then be $175 and the required giving to the Paul Harris Foundation will remain at $25. The new total per quarter will be $200.00. There has not been an increase in dues for 4 years. Thanks to everyone for understanding.

Each year during the John Deere Classic, the Rotary Clubs of North Scott and Iowa Quad-Cities provide volunteers to marshal the picturesque #16. It is fun and you will get a close-up view of the JD Classic. Wednesday is Pro-Am Day.
If you volunteered last year, John Gere has already sent you a sign-up sheet for picking the day(s) that work best for you. Pick your date(s) and reply to John. You will also need to register at the web site: jdclassic.org/volunteer/marshals/registration.php
If you have not volunteered to marshal before or if you did not volunteer last year, you will need to let Tom Messer or Merle Anderson know the date(s) you are available and your contact information. Tom is at 309-781-4351 and Merle is at 563-343-1912. Then, go to the John Deere Classic web site and register. jdclassic.org/volunteer/marshals/registration.php Indicate that your organization is the Iowa Quad-Cities and North Scott Rotary Clubs on #16.
