It was Gravity’s very first public performance. And, being their very first outing, those usual ‘opening night blues’ were there! The sound took a while to settle, and when the fine tuning was accom- plished, Gravity impressed – confirm- ing that saying, ‘first impression counts.’ Of course, it does take a short time for a new set of members to gel as a group, and the gelling process (or playing as one unit) takes place when there is more, and regular, exposure. In this regard, Gravity has it all; a superb leader, in guitar wizard, Shafi, and the opportunity to perform every Saturday night. Most definitely, we would be hear- ing, and seeing, a lot of Gravity, in the very near future. The Rhythm & Blues nightclub was packed on Gravity’s opening night: towards, midnight, there was only standing accommodation avail- able. The crowd included several well- known personalities – Bathiya & Santhush, Melantha Perera (who cel- ebrated his birthday, at R&B, that particular night) and his family, Chris Wickramanayake, Janaka (from the band Audio Squad), Budrin Musafer, and Rukshan Perera. Gravity’s opener, on stage, was Santana’s “Samba Pa Ti.” Shafi has big plans, to take Gravity to the very top, and to cater to the masses, as well. He emphasised that Gravity will play all kinds of music, including Sinhala, and also the bailas. “Gravity will have a playlist that will enable us to tackle weddings, dances, stage shows – everything connected with entertainment,” said Shafi. “At a wedding, we need to please the couple, and guests, with Sinhala music and bailas. It’s the same where most dances are concerned.” Shafi added that he has the mem- bers who could make things happen for the band, when it comes to vari- ety. No doubt, with Shafi, at the helm, nothing is impossible. C eline Dion has a positive update on how her husband, Rene Angelil, is doing in his battle with throat cancer. She says, "Rene's doing really well. We know the path that he's going, the treat- ments. "I knew he was amazing. He's such a champ. He's working hard on that." Dion, 47, took almost a year off to be with her husband, 73, of more than 20 years and said being with him and the family was "not hard." "It's hard because life imposes things on you," she added. "Sickness and you have no choice but to deal with them. I've been with him all my life and he's showed me the way many times." She said she will be back, on stage, in August (2015). "He wants me back. He wants me strong and this is what we're doing together," she said. Back in March, Dion was candid about how tough her husband's cancer had been. She said: “He can’t eat so I feed him. He’s got a feeding tube. I have to feed him, three times a day.” Angélil, who stepped down as Dion’s manager, because of his health, has been battling throat cancer for 15 years. Dion said it was in December, 2013, just as she was about to appear on national tele- vision, that she found out her husband’s cancer had returned. “I went back in my dressing room and I saw him looking pretty devastated, in shock, and I was like, ‘What’s going on,’” Dion recalled. “He said, ‘I have cancer again. The doctor just called me and I have cancer again.’ “At that moment, honestly, my heart started to beat faster but my body shut off,” Dion said. “So I didn’t know how to go along. He needed my support and I was like, ‘OK. I’m going to go sing. I’m going to go put makeup on and I’m going to go sing ‘Incredible’ and I’m going to forget how I feel right now.’” “I sang the song and then reality started to strike,” she said. “It took a toll on me.” Angélil underwent major surgery that left him unable to swallow and unable to talk. Dion and Angélil have been married since 1994, after meeting 14 years prior. They have three sons together -- a 14-year-old and 4-year-old twins. Rene Angelil and Celine Y es, Melbourne will go all Misty on Saturday, June 6th. Fans of one of Sri Lanka’s top outfit, will see their favourite group, in action, at a grand dinner dance, to be held at The Grand on Princess, in Melbourne. They will be doing the Sydney scene this Saturday, May 30th, at the Four Seasons Hotel. Misty, led by Rajitha, is certainly not new to the Australian scene. They have been, Down Under, many times, and have a huge following, especially in Melbourne. The crowd-puller, no doubt, is Rajitha, but female vocalist, Merlina, is also big with the Aussie-Sri Lankan crowd. TOTP PopShot Chart World Singles Chart 10. Take me To The Church – Hozier. 9.
