Copyright Beyond Bourbon Street Podcast (May 2017) 10 Places to Eat Like a Local in New Orleans My main criteria for this list: someplace I would take you to eat. These aren’t necessarily the best, the most essential, or anything like that. Instead, these are places I like and believe most people would enjoy. 1. Oak Oven Café 2. LA Thai 3. Brigtsen’s 4. Clancy’s 5. Mr. B’s Bistro 6. La Boca 7. Katie’s 8. The Original Fiorellas’ Café 9. Café Degas 10. Jacques-Imo’s Oak Oven Café 504-305-4039 | 6625 Jefferson Hwy | Harahan This is way off the beaten path if you are in New Orleans, but it's definitely not touristy! Oak Oven occupies a space that was once a Popeye’s Fried Chicken. Hopefully you haven't stopped reading yet, because the food here is excellent. Best Bets: The fried eggplant appetizer may be the best I've ever had. Just be warned - it comes out piping hot. My favorite entrée is the handmade stracci with roast pork shoulder. This is the PERFECT place if you are in town visiting relatives and need a night out. If you are a local and haven't been here, give it a try. Insider Tip: Make the drive along River Road and while you're at it, stop at Rivershack Tavern for a drink, especially if the weather is nice.
