Composed of both elementary and highschool pupils, the Brentwood Public SchoolsOrchestra has grown to 40 members this year.

It is directed bv Mr, Montgomery T. John­son, elementary music instructor.

As a result of more frequent rehearsals thisyear, the orchestra has also increased its numberof public performances.

Their first public appearance was on the

Christmas program in December. which was

followed bv the Elementary Music Concert on

April I4. After representing Brentwood in thc

orchestra division at the St. Louis County

Music Festival. the orchestra made its Enal ap­

pearance during commencement week.

the sponsorship of Mr. Edwards, the councilconsists of two members from each home room.This group that meets once a week was chosento advise on matters which are of general con­cern to the school and student body.

Among the many things accomplished thisyear were the adoption of a school creed. andthe designing of a school crest and Hag.

ln a fall assembly the dramatics class panto»rnimed two musical selections. "The BaseballCantata," the story of an imaginary game bc»tween the Brooklyn Dodgers and the New YorkYankees. and "On a Sunday by the Sea," ahumorous 1920 beach scene.

The acting of the dramatics` class. choralreading by speech class, and the singing tif theGirls' Glee Club were all combined in thepresentation of an original Christmas Cantata."The Coming of the Light." The necessity ofGod's Light, from the creation of the earth tothe coming of Christ. was portrayed.

For a spring assembly selections from "SouthPacinc," "Annie Get Your Gun." "GentlemenPrefer Blondes," and "High Button Shoes,"plus some popular records were pantomimed.Each number of this "Nickleodeon" was com­plete with colorful costumes and scenery.

Climaxing a very eventful year was thesenior play. "Taming of the Shrew," a modernromantic farce of the \lVilliam Shakespeare com­
