Composition and MaterialsLaminate flooring is created through a manufacturing process by which four layers are fused together to create the finished planks.

Layer D: Backer PaperAt the base of every DFP laminate flooring plank is a bottom balancing layer that keeps the board straight. The backer seals the back of the laminate board so its dimensional stability isn’t compromised in any way. Some Swiss Krono laminate planks have foam padding added, eliminating the need for an underlayment; underlayment or padding enhances the acoustical quality of the floors when you walk on it and is required as part of the installation process.

Layer C: HDF Core or BoardThe core layer of DFP laminate flooring is high-density fiberboard (HDF). HDF is made from wood fibers that are broken down, combined with a wax and resin binder, and formed into panels using heat and pressure. HDF offers superior stability and strength for the production of laminate flooring; it makes a better floor.™

Layer B: Decorative PaperNext comes the decor or decorative-paper layer. The decorative paper is a high quality printed design that gives the laminate plank its distinctive appearance. That appearance can be a realistic reproduction of wood, stone or marble in a multitude of colors and patterns, as well as such non-traditional designs as leaves or grass, artwork or paint splatters.

Layer A: Wear or Overlay LayerThe top layer of the laminate flooring is the wear or overlay layer. Aside from putting the finishing, lustrous touch on every plank, it serves several important functions that enhance the floor’s durability:1. The wear layer seals and protects the surface of the laminate

floor from everyday minor wear and accidents such as scuffs, scrapes and scratches commonly caused by pet claws, shoes, kids toys, furniture legs, vacuum cleaners and the like.

2. It shields the decorative paper layer from harmful ultraviolet rays that could fade the color. Most people like big open windows. Prolonged exposure from sunlight can subject a floor to a big dose of ultraviolet rays, creating photodegradation (fading) that breaks the chemical bonds in color. In essence, the color gets bleached over time from the sun without proper wear layer protection. The Swiss Krono overlay is designed to protect your floor from fading.

The Swiss Krono wear layer comes in a range of finishes (from near matte to high-gloss) depending on the desired style of flooring. During the manufacturing process, the HDF core will be milled to absolute, micron-precise tolerances. The surface is pressed with a press plates to create the most attractive and authentic wood floor. The edges of each plank will be cut to specific profiles to make them easily and consistently fit together for a snug, reliable installation according to one of four locking systems.

2. Do not use any cleaning agents containing wax, oil or polish. Left over residue from these agents can leave a dull film on the floor.

3. Do not use abrasive cleaning methods such as steel wool or scouring powder, as these items could scratch the floor.

4. Use doormats outside and inside each entrance to prevent dirt, sand, grit and other substances from being tracked onto the floor.

5. Use wide-bearing, non-staining floor protectors such as felt protectors, for furniture.

Cleaning:Laminate flooring is virtually maintenance free and is resistant to dirt and dust. Normal sweeping and vacuuming (use hard floor setting) will usually keep your floor clean. If stubborn spots still remain, use a laminate floor cleaner. 1. Juice, wine, grease, chocolate: dampen a rag with water and

a laminate floor cleaner and spot clean.

2. Cigarette burns, asphalt, shoe polish, paint, ink, crayon, dried foods, nail polish: dampen a rag with rubbing alcohol or nail polish remover and spot clean.

3. Candle wax, chewing gum: allow to harden and gently scrape with a plastic scraper.
