Some significant development in ISO 9001
The first Committee Draft (submitted FEB 2007) indicates the intended change of the scope:
“… includes (also) purchased product and product resulting from intermediate stages of the realization process.”
Considering actual developments in outsourcing and global supply chains.

The radical change in ISO 9004
Work title of the first Committee Draft (submitted FEB 2007):
“Managing for sustainability – A quality management approach”
A very generic concept, no clause-to-clause binding to ISO 9001 any more.

Systematic review of ISO 19011
• review of the auditing standard started early 2007
• strong relationship to the ISO CASCO project ISO 17021 Part 2 “Requirements for third party auditing of management systems”
Early awareness by EOQ:
• EOQ president Dr. Kaerkes at CASCO’s 2005 plenary
• QA/ÖVQ participation in the related CASCO Working Group 21 since 2005 (3 preparatory, 2 work meetings)

EOQ engagement in ISO CASCO
We have strong interests in the 17021P2 project:
• maintenance of the integrity of the ISO 9000 schemes• global improvement of QMS auditor knowledge & skills
We may have interests also on other Conformity Assessment issues:
We are invited as observers to all CASCO working groups (e.g. those dealing with ISO Guides 7 & 65) in case of interest please address [email protected]

The ISO 17021P2 project impact on EOQ
Relationship to our Auditor Registration Scheme discussed in detail in the PRU meeting in Prague – here just one issue:
• Only generic requirements will be prepared by CASCO• Specific requirements will be prepared as “add-on”s by other
competent bodies e.g. ISO/TC176 on Quality Management
We’ll have to answer the question:
How good is our guidance on the quality profession
as it is now in ISO 19011?

The coming challenge regarding the “quality profession”
The present ISO 19011 gives the following competence guidance (in 7.3.3 a):
“Quality-related methods and techniques: …Knowledge and skills in this area should cover
• quality terminology,• quality management principles and their application, and• quality management tools and their application (for example
statistical process control, failure mode and effect analysis, etc.). »
Basically correct, but much less specific then in other professional fields (environment, food safety, IT) – a future challenge for ISO/TC176 and all “quality people”

Re-discussion of the “quality profession”
• The last discussion took place in the late 80’s in “Quality Progress”, Motto “Quality in the 90’s”
• The result was: QM will be part of Good Management Practice – in fact the 90’s became the “ISO 9000 decade”
• Now we have discussions: whether ISO 9000 is just GMP or is it really relevant to product quality? (Motto “Output matters”)
• Our “world partners” may be prepared to discuss this in ISO – many of them having direct access to TC176 (ASQ, INLAC, SPRING, KSA)
• Think of Vienna 2008, Motto: “Quality is back - back to quality ”
