•  Short Modules of ~ 10 Minutes •  Review Questions at End of Each Module •  Suggested Readings •  KISS (Keep it Simple, Stupid)

What to Expect

•  Eleven Sections – Between 2 to 9 modules per section

•  47 Modules in Total – 10 -20 minutes per module plus note-taking &

review – About 12-18 hours to complete the entire course – Allocate additional time for extra studying &

review



Applicant Requirements

•  Medical School Degree – Either M.D or D.O – From a US or Canadian Med School – Or international schools deemed satisfactory to the

board




•  ABMS Board Certification – Pathologists must apply through ABPath – All others apply through American Board of

Preventive Medicine (ABPM)

•  Valid US or Canadian Medical License




•  Completion of one of two “pathways”




•  Practice Pathway – 25% of FTE practice in clinical informatics – Acceptable only prior to 2017 – Verification Required




•  Fellowship Pathway – Required after 2018 – Minimum 24 month fellowship – Must be ACGME Accredited after 2018




•  Applying – Application available at

https://www.theabpm.org/applicationci/index.cfm – Application Fee - $550 (non-refundable) – Exam Fee - $1750 (refunded if not approved) – Must also include a current CV and letter of

recommendation from another physician



Deadlines •  Applying

– March 1-June 1 •  Material Submission

– Any additional material must be submitted by July 15

•  Requirements Completion – All requirements for the October exam must be

completed by August 1 •  Exam
