• Station: 1 Title: “Checks and Balances”• Name: Debbie Baluch School: Arnold Mill ES Grade: Third • Focus Subject: Social Studies• Summary of Project: My third grade students were engaged in learning more

about our government and how the checks and balances system works and why it is necessary. The students completed power points and a video for each branch of the government. They also took a bill through the stages to become a new "law" for our classroom.

• Station: 2 Title: “Three Branches of Government”• Name: Jessica Lusk School: Arnold Mill ES Grade: Third • Focus Subject: Social Studies• Summary of Project: My students focused on the three branches of government

both at state and federal levels. They learned about separation of powers between the branches and how all three systems of government make up our democracy. Through hands-on lessons, real-life meetings with legislators, online research, and a field trip to the Georgia State Capitol. my class was able to fully understand the ways our government help us.

• Station: 3 Title: “Traveling the World with Literature”• Name: Jill Dittus School: Arnold Mill ES Grade: Sixth • Focus Subject: Reading• Summary of Project: This project mixed reading and social studies. The students selected a

country, researched that country, and chose a folktale from the country. They then created a "Reading Rainbow" type video sharing the folktale and teaching other students about their country.


• Station: 4 Title: “Habitats of Georgia”• Name: Josephine Modica School: Arnold Mill ES Grade: Third • Focus Subject: Science• Summary of Project: The Georgia Habitat project encompassed differentiating between

habitats of Georgia and the organisms that live in each of the five land regions. Students researched the animals and plants indigenous to a particular area. They documented their journeys by creating PowerPoint, Photo Stories, Podcasts, and letter writing as well as making bookmarks as a memento of their study of the unit.




• Station: 5 Title: “Physical and Behavioral Adaptations”• Name: Patty Hess School: Bascomb ES Grade: Third • Focus Subject: Science• Summary of Project: Third grade students tracked the migration of the Whooping

Cranes as we explored the physical and behavioral adaptations of plants and animals. The students produced two digital stories, an independent one on the Whooping Crane Migration as well as a group project regarding the plants and animals from the various regions of Georgia.

• Contact Information: [email protected]• • Station: 6 Title: “Using Technology to Enrich the Study of Earth Science”• Name: Gretchen Wojcik School: Bascomb ES Grade: Third • Focus Subject: Language Arts• Summary of Project: I worked with Helen Ehrlich on this project. I taught the

students how to write Haiku poetry, how to construct coherent sentences and add them to photo stories, and how to comment on our class blog. Helen taught the Science lessons on Earth Science so that the students could write Rock Haiku poems, research areas of Earth Science, and design photo stories.




• Station: 6 Title: “Using Technology to Enrich the Study of Earth Science”

• Name: Helen Ehrlich School: Bascomb ES Grade: Third • Focus Subject: Science• Summary of Project: I worked with Gretchen Wojcik on our Teach 21

project. I worked with both classes having them research the subjects: rocks, minerals, fossils, and weathering. With the information that they collected, the students worked in groups to design photo stories about their specific topic. My class worked with Gretchen Wojcik to produce poems and a Photo Story about their "pet rocks".


• • Station: 7 Title: “Help Our Planet!”• Name: Stephanie O'Dell School: Bascomb ES Grade: Third • Focus Subject: Science• Summary of Project: The students were engaged in a study of government,

habitats, and pollution. The students researched Georgia habitats and pollution and then wrote letters to state representatives. Public service announcements were made in Photo Story to spread the word to others.




•Station: 8 Title: “Relay for a Healthy Life”

• Name: Tammy Videkovich School: Bascomb ES Grade: Second • Focus Subject: Health• Summary of Project: My students spent a great deal of time researching the harmful effects of

drugs, alcohol, and tobacco. The students then created a PowerPoint and flip chart to teach the class about their research. During the next phase of the project, I had five people come in and speak to my students with regards to their brush with cancer. The final phase of the project included writing, directing, creating, and producing of a movie about the three harmful substances, how they effect your body, and what we can do to help find a cure for Cancer.


• • Station: 9 Title: “Operation Rescue & Return (Ga. Habitats)”• Name: Kim Harrison School: Boston ES Grade: Third • Focus Subject: Science• Summary of Project: Several Georgia animals have lost their way and are stranded in

unfamiliar habitats. Students must safely return them to their native habitat while helping them adapt to their current surroundings. Using web based resources, Kidspiration organizers and digital story telling, students collect information, track their progress, and tell the story of their animal's safe return.




• Station: 10 Title: “Making a Difference”• Name: Marni Donovan School: Boston ES Grade: Third • Focus Subject: Science• Summary of Project: “Making a Difference” in our world was the challenge for

this third grade class. Students researched the causes and effects of the three major categories of pollution; air, land, and water. They selected their area of interest and, in groups, researched further. Their final “project” was to use technology in creating an engaging method of delivering this information to others in an effort to get them interested in helping our planet stay healthy.


• • • Station: 11 Title: “Keys to Building a Better School Community”• Name: Shirley Heinsch School: Canton ES Grade: Third • Focus Subject: Social Studies• Summary of Project: Third grade students studied the lives of nine famous

Americans and interviewed an outside expert to evaluate what character traits were most likely to help a person promote the common good in a community. They created newsletters and movies to present their findings to other students, teachers, and parents. A volunteer service group for their school called Canton Colt Care Corps grew out of that process.




• Station: 12 Title: “A Day in the Life of a Famous American: Helping History Come Alive”

• Name: Dianne Bussey School: Carmel ES Grade: Third • Focus Subject: Social Studies• Summary of Project: Students were divided into groups to research the life story and

accomplishments of the eight famous Americans included in the Third Grade Social Studies Standards. After completing their research, the groups used the information to create a movie interview with this famous character. To complete this process, students had to decide who would assume each part in the production, write a script to be used, film the production, help with editing, and create a Power Point presentation to use when presenting to classmates. Each group also had to create a quiz for the class to complete at the end of the presentations. In completing this project, students developed a greater understanding of how individuals have changed our country.


• Station: 13 Title: “Making Poetry Fun”• Name: Cindy Mathews School: Liberty ES Grade: Third • Focus Subject: Reading• Summary of Project: Students selected a work of poetry, imported figurative language

graphic to express how each line of their poem could be represented through pictures. Students then recorded their poem into their Photo Story, added customized motion, and background music. Written reflections, voice recorded reflection for Podcasts, peer reviews and peer mentoring activities allowed students to extend their projects beyond poetry performance standards.

• Station: 14 Title: “Digital Storytelling”• Name: Deborah Henderson School: Liberty ES Grade: Third • Focus Subject: Language Arts• Summary of Project: Resource 3rd grade students worked in the "I Can Write On-

Line" program to complete an informational writing. They have taken their written report and with the assistance of general ed students as mentors, put the stories into digital stories.

• • Station: 15 Title: “"Rockin" Around the Classroom!”• Name: Nina Eidson School: Liberty ES Grade: Third • Focus Subject: Science• Summary of Project: Students used lab investigations and Internet research of

rocks and minerals to create an assessment project. The major focus was allowing students to choose how they would be assessed. The choices were Podcasts (Informational or Musical), Photostories, PowerPoint Presentations, Student-created test, Original story, Music Video, or Informational report.




• Station: 16 Title: “Trash to Treasure: Protecting Our Environment”• Name: Sandra Godfrey School: Liberty ES Grade: Third • Focus Subject: Math• Summary of Project: Our class studied ways that we can protect our

environment: turning trash into treasure; learning to conserve; learning about reducing, reusing and recycling. We researched the web for information and did a scavenger hunt about recycling. We made graphs and posters from our research. As a culminating activity we made infomercials to teach about recycling.


• • Station: 17 Title: “Digital Storytelling Featuring "I Can Write"”• Name: Lori Stuart School: Liberty ES Grade: Third • Focus Subject: Choose from list below• Summary of Project: Students used the "I Can Write" software to create

stories in 3 of the 4 writing genres. They then created a Photo Story to "digitally" tell their story.




• Station: 18 Title: “Habitat Brochures”• Name: Michelle Endozo School: Liberty ES Grade: Third • Focus Subject: Science• Summary of Project: The students have worked together in collaborative

groups and made brochures on the different regions of Georgia. They have included the climate & soil, animals and plants of that region in their brochure.


• • Station: 19 Title: “Green Team-Helping our Earth”• Name: Nancy Baker School: Macedonia ES Grade: Third • Focus Subject: Science• Summary of Project: Third Grade student were engaged in the study of

Pollution and the effect it has on our earth. Students kept an e-journal of the units learning, created a Photo Story to inform other students in the school of their role in protecting the earth, along with a link on our class website to information about pollution and our Earth

• • Station: 20 Title: “Comparing and Contrasting Two Societies”• Name: Linda Schmersahl School: Woodstock ES Grade: Third • Focus Subject: Social Studies• Summary of Project: The students researched the four types of productive resources. The

students also compared goods and services of the United States and South Korea. They researched using the internet how the countries were interdependent and what products and services they traded. The information about the countries and resources were put into a PowerPoint presentation and presented to the third grade class. They were videotaped during the presentations.

also compared goods and services of the economics of the United States and South Korea they researched using the internet how countries were interdependent and what services they traded, the information about the countries and resources were put into a PowerPoint presentation and presented to the third grade class. they were videotaped during their presentations. They also attempted to connect with a school in South Korea through epals.




• Station: 21 Title: “Be a Hero - Go Zero (Carbon Emissions)”• Name: Linda Warner School: Hickory Flat ES Grade: Third • Focus Subject: Science• Summary of Project: 3rd graders studied the effects of fossil fuels in our environment and what

they can do to help zero out their own carbon emissions. Students blogged, wrote and produced persuasive commercials and made power points to inform others of what they can do to help. An environmental speaker informed the students of recent activity in North Georgia and the negative effects that have taken place in the area's habitats. Students wrote letters encouraging change.


• • • • • Station: 22 Title: “Ecosystems and Human Impact”• Name: Lisa Naliwajka School: Holly Springs ES Grade: Fourth • Focus Subject: Science• Summary of Project: Students researched ecosystems from around the world and created

newspaper articles about the biotic and abiotic parts. Students also created power point presentations about the different relationships in the ecosystems and made a movie about the human impact.




• Station: 23 Title: “Volcanoes Alive”• Name: MaLinda Blanchard School: Holly Springs ES Grade: Third • Focus Subject: Other• Summary of Project: Volcanoes Alive has been a multi-disciplinary third grade gifted unit. The

students researched the social, economic, and cultural influences that volcanoes have on the surrounding communities. Students created real-life models and simulated volcanic eruptions to deepen their understanding and insights of volcanoes. Through technology, students were able to interact with researchers at the Hawaii Volcano Observatory on the Big Island of Hawaii, as well as create audio-visual presentations inspired by volcanoes.


• • • • • Station: 24 Title: “Travel the United States”• Name: Gina Baldwin School: Johnston ES Grade: Fifth • Focus Subject: Social Studies• Summary of Project: Students plan a trip to each of the 7 regions of the United States, visiting

historical sites along the way. They use a "green screen" to make a movie of themselves (behind a scene from one of their sites) reporting back to their families about their discoveries and adventures. PowerPoint journals of the cost of the trip and day to day sites visited are also to be presented along with their movies.



• Station: 25 Title: “Nonfiction Writing”• Name: Dana Izquierdo School: Mountain Road ES Grade: Third • Focus Subject: Language Arts• Summary of Project: The students chose a topic of interest and created 4-6 page

newspapers on their topic. They learned research skills and how to write nonfiction through the project. The culminating activity was the taping of our very own news broadcast!


• • • Station: 26 Title: “Pollution Solutions: Water Pollution”• Name: Judy Stewart School: Oak Grove ES Grade: Third • Focus Subject: Science• Summary of Project: The students did a study on water pollution and water

conservation. They produced public service announcements and recorded these in a class movie. They also created a class book about water pollution and conservation. The class shared their information with other third grade classes studying air and land pollution.

• • Station: 27 Title: “Air Pollution Solutions”• Name: Marcia Brueggemann School: Oak Grove ES Grade: Third • Focus Subject: Science• Summary of Project: Students used technology to research and participate in many activities

about air pollution. They found out how air pollution affects humans and animals. Then they found solutions that they can do to help air pollution. Projects of solutions were made and presented to other third grade classes and on a website.

playground, wrote public service announcements and read them on our morning news. They also created posters about Land Pollution. They created a class book. The class shared their information with other third grade classes studying air, and water pollution.


• • Station: 29 Title: “What is Letterboxing?”• Name: Stephanie Collett School: RM Moore ES Grade: Third • Focus Subject: Reading• Summary of Project: Third grade students were introduced to Letterboxing.

Letterboxing is an interesting, inexpensive past time that is similar to going on a scavenger hunt. They created a signature stamp, log book and trail name to become a letterboxer. This project instills the love of reading.


• • Station: 30 Title: “Where I am?”• Name: Terri Sims School: Hickory Flat ES Grade: Third • Focus Subject: Social Studies• Summary of Project: Students documented flight travels with our Pilot source in

his travels in the United States. Students kept this information in a flight plan log book, which included departures, destinations, longitude, latitude, population and fun facts gathered on each destination. After filling out the book, students used information about their favorite destination and completed a brochure for a vacation place.
