AFFORESTATION PROJECT

by Nilima Munda

I am Nilima Munda. I have taken responsibility for the afforestation project under our

SAMMSS. First I went to meet the local Chairman to take permission to implement this

project. When the local Chairman accepted my proposal and gave me permission for this

afforestation project I bought trees. I bought about 1200 trees. Then all trees were planted in

two villages: Dhumghat and Srifalkati. The trees were planted by labourers. It took them a

week to finish planting those trees. Most of the trees are alive and growing. In those two

villages there are now two persons who look after those trees. We give them some money for

their work. And sometimes I go to see how those trees are growing. We spent about twentyfive

thousands taka (250 Euros) for buying those trees, carrying them to the villages and for

paying the labourers who planted them and look after them.

A few pictures of this afforestation project are attached herewith.

DRINKING WATER

by Shaionti Munda

My name is Shaionti Munda. I live at Jisu Nam Ashrom and I study here. I have taken the

responsibility to collect rain water. When it rains I collect rain water in a big tank and then

pour it in bottles and in containers. There are six tanks and a good number of containers at

Jisu Nam Ashram.. We collect rain water because we drink it all the year round. Water

around this place is very salty and we cannot drink it. The rain water I collect is used only for

drinking. For cooking and washing we use pond water.

Below you can see the big containers in which we keep the good sweet rain water.

OUR CHICKEN FARM

by Urmila Munda and Shopna Munda

Our names are Urmila Munda and Shopna Munda. We are students. Urmilla is 16 years old

and Shopna is 17 years old. We have a chicken farm. We have 25 chickens in our farm. We

look after them. They lay eggs. Every day we get about 17 eggs. We sell those eggs and get

money. We buy chicken’s food with that money. We took a loan of 8000 Taka (around 80

Euro) from SAMMSS for buying chicken’s food. We shall pay back that money within five

months. And we will give our small co-operative 400 Taka as service charge. After repaying

back that loan we shall ask for another loan and we will increase the number of our

chickens.

Let’s see if our small enterprise is going to be successful!
