    Story time:

nce upon a time there lived a beautiful lady called Medusa who livedin the city of Athens in Greece. Medusa was very proud of her beauty

and each day boasted outrageously about how pretty she was.

Medusa would brag to anybody about how her skin was more beautiful thanfresh fallen snow or how her hair glowed brighter than the sun. She could alsobe heard saying her eyes were greener than the Aegean Sea.

Medusa would spend whole days gazing lovingly at her reection in the mirror.

She admired herself in her hand mirror for an hour each morning as she brushedher hair. At one time, Medusa was so intent on admiring herself in the well waterfor her father's horses that she even forgot to fetch the water in for them. Medusawent on and on about her beauty to anyone and everyone who stopped long

enough to hear her.One day when she made her rst visit to the Parthenon with her friends. The

Parthenon was the largest temple to the goddess Athena in Greece. It wasdecorated with amazing sculptures and paintings. Everyone who entered wasawed by the beauty of the place and couldnt help but think of how grateful theywere to Athena, goddess of wisdom, for inspiring them and for watching overtheir city of Athens. Everyone, that is, except Medusa.

When Medusa saw the sculptures, she whispered that she would have madea much better subject for the sculptor than Athena had. She condemned the

goddess's painted picture complaining of her thick eyebrows and intimated thatthe artwork would have been much more wonderful had the painting been thatof someone as delicate as her.

When Medusa reached the altar she sighed and said, My it is a beautiful temple. It is a shame it was wasted on Athena for I am so much prettier than her andperhaps someday people will build an even grander temple to my beauty.

Athenas priestesses who overheard Medusa gasped. Sacrilege they screamed, shivers ran down the spine of all the people in the temple who quickly beganto leave for fear of what might happen if the goddess had overheard Medusas

    rash remarks.

Before long the temple was empty except for Medusa, who was so busyadmiring her own reection in the large bronze doors that she hadn't noticed the

    swift departure of everyone else.

Suddenly, her reection wavered andinstead of her own features, it wasthe face of Athena that was reectedback at her. Vain and foolish girl, Athenasaid angrily, You think you are prettier

than I am but there is more to life thanbeauty alone. While others work andplay and learn, you do little but boast andadmire yourself.

Medusa tried to point out that her beautywas an inspiration to those around herand that she made their lives better bysimply looking so lovely, but Athena silencedher with a frustrated wave.Nonsense,

    Athena retorted, Beauty fades

swiftly in all mortals. It does not comfortthe sick, teach the unskilled or feedthe hungry. And by my powers, your beautyshall be stripped away completely. Yourfate shall serve as a reminder for peopleto control their pride.

And with those words Medusas face changed to that of a hideous monster. Her hair twisted and thickened into horrible snakes that hissed and fought eachother atop her head.

Medusa, your pride has brought this on you. You are cursed, henceforthwhen any one beholds your face, the mere sight of it will turn them to

stone, proclaimed the goddess, Even you, Medusa, shouldyou see your reection you will instantly be turned into

    a rock.

And with that, Athena sent Medusa with her hair of snakesto live with the blind monsters -- the gorgon sisters --at the ends of the earth, so that no innocents would beaccidentally turned to stone at the sight of her. Well untilher head was cut off by Persueus and thats a story for

    another time.

Beware of pride and avoid the fate of poor Medusa.

I have always found itinteresting to see hordes ofpeople going in and out of this

Like myself, thousands of otheryoung men and women leave

Many foreign childhood friendsof mine return to Ghana eventhough their parents are long-gone. Its no news that theyouth cannot get enough; theremust be something sweet inthe air?

Romance settles down this month aftera long period of excitement, but alsounrest and uncertainty, dear Taurus.Work heats up - it not only picks uppace, it is more demanding on severallevels now. While you prefer that allareas of your life are stable and routine, this might help feed your increaseddesire to make money and accumulatenew possessions. Be more cautiousphysically, particularly from the 17-19. Money-making ideas can comefrom dreams or from something youremember from the past.

Your life is becoming considerablymore exciting, dear Gemini. You arekinder, friendlier, and less focused onminor concerns in favor of the biggerpicture. You could learn somethingsurprising about shared resourcesaround the 3rd. You concern yourselfless with domestic matters and morewith recreation and entertainment. July is a power month for you, dearCancer, but it is also likely to bestressful at times. You have the chance

to show your creativity on the job thismonth. Advances or bonuses maybe in the ofng in the rst week ofthe month, after which things settledown considerably. Something fromyour past could resurface this month, but avoid dwelling on it. Instead, forgive yourself, learn from it, andmove forward. A partner can have asurprising revelation on the 3-4. Homelife becomes more animated and familylife demands more of your time.

A quieter period in your life is in storeuntil July 22nd, dear Leo, after whichlife begins to play in your style. The restand privacy you need is yours at thebeginning of July, although there areplenty of stimulating dramas playingout around you. There are no shortageof invitations and things to do - it ismore about your ability to pick andchoose. Secrets and whispers delightthis month, and you may willingly makea few sacrices to be with a specialsomeone. You meet with perfectioniststandards at work, but you are certainlyworrying less about money this month.

This month, expressing youruniqueness is especially important toyou, dear Virgo, and the need to workcooperatively within the frameworkof a group of people is likely to gurestrongly. Your independent side hasbeen prominent in recent months, but this month, you are softeningrough edges. Nevertheless, you arestill ghting for your rights, and youare demanding a show of respect.

Around the 3-4, a surprising romanticproclamation or revelation could occur.Work matters are more pleasant in Julyand your drive to improve them furtheris strong.

People in your life have been growingaccustomed to a more withdrawn andeven serious quality to you recently,

dear Libra, but with Mars movinginto your sign (active until the lastweek of August), a decidedly morecondent and assertive side emerges.Your domestic life demands moreattention from you on the 3-4. Recentrelationship pressures tend to ease.Receiving news about the past thatgives you new information about yourcurrent circumstances gures stronglythis month, and career matters arelikely to push forward as a result.

Partnership matters are movingforward this month, and so are yournances, dear Scorpio. However, youand a partner could go head-to-headmid-month on a nancial matter. Theintensity of the confrontation could pullout some deep issues that have neededrelease for some time. I t's likely to pushyour relationship forward by leaps andbounds. Love is private, intimate, andpassionate this month - share yourselfwith bravery. Accept support if offered,as good things come from others atthis point in your life. From the 17-19,watch for indiscretion especially in theworkplace.

Early July is strong for loverelationships, irtations, and yoursocial life, dear Sagittarius. In fact, yoursocial life, which may have been on thedry side in recent months, is pickingup pace considerably all month. Apartner (business or personal) maybe re-visiting old issues that you'drather forget altogether, however.Money matters that seemed to havebeen settled in the past crop up again.

Tensions about money can rise fromthe 17-19, particularly involving friendsand children. Overall, however, yourgracious manner this month attractspositive experiences.

Your needs and desires might oftenseem eclipsed by those of a partner thismonth, dear Capricorn. Or, in general,

your personal needs and plans are onthe back burner for now. However, relationships with others require someattention, and playing a supportive roleis your best bet for setting things right. All is resolved in your favor by the lastweek of July--a time when nancialmatters begin to peak. Recognition--both personal and professional--islikely on the 3rd. Ambitions charge upthis month, but watch for impulsivemoves and reactions, especiallyaround the 17-19.

While work demands more thanthe usual attention this month, dearAquar ius, July brings good energy forbreaking out of routines and enjoyingyourself more fully. Recently, you'vebeen rather content to stick around theneighborhood and to follow the sameold routine, but the urge for adventure

and experience can arise suddenlyearly month. Many recent pressurestend to ease for you this month, andthis frees you up to explore recreationalactivities. While romance is favored,a more committed relationship mayinvolve tricky mixed signals frommid-month.

You've been pouring a lot of energy intorelationships in recent months, dearPisces, and it hasn't been entirely ofthe pleasant variety. Announcementscan be made on the 3-4 that involve afriend, but this can also be a time thata friendship matter comes to a head. For some of you, your intimate life heatsup in July. Although money and powerdynamics may still need straighteningout, you can experience more

excitement and intimacy with a specialsomeone this month. Watch for mixingfriendship and money on the 17-19. Allmonth is strong for home decoratingand entertaining from home.
