As mentioned last week, there are a number of club events planned for the very near future. So get your 4-balls together and book your spot for the Springbok opening World cup game golf event, the Joost van Zyl golf day/30-year anniversary and the Kuilsrivier Wine Route Classic.

On Saturday 21 September 2019 the Springboks play their opening world cup game against the All Blacks. Kickoff is at 13:10. To ensure that all in the morning field are able to watch the game, and to bring

some to the club it has been decided to have a SHOT GUN

START at 07:30 for all who enter the morning field competition. This day will culminate in a braai (sponsored by HINO Kuilsrivier) and a free beer for all (at no extra charge / normal playing fees apply). There will off course also be a bar special or two on offer. So, get your 4-balls sorted and make sure you pack in your Green and Gold on the day and lets all support this great initiative and our team. All Black supporters are also welcome.

On Thursday 19 September the Kuilsrivier golf course will be 30 years’

old. We will celebrate this major milestone in the history of our club on

Saturday 5 October 2019 in conjunction with the Joost van Zyl golf day

and would like to invite all past and present members to celebrate this day

with us. The cost of R280 pp includes a memorabilia gift, half way meal,

dinner and prizes.

On Saturday 9 November 2019 the club will host the annual Wine

Route Classic (headline sponsor: HINO Kuilsriver). In addition to

the Saturday Classic, we will also host a separate Wednesday

Competition on the 6th

and a 9-hole competition on Friday the 8th

as part of the Classic week (more info on these days will be

shared closer to the time).

The competition on Saturday the 9th

will be a 4 ball alliance (2

scores to count) at a cost of R2000 a 4-ball. This includes playing

fees for the day as well as Breakfast on arrival, a goodie bag,

lunch, dinner, wet holes and prizes to the value of R30,000.

As always, this day promises to be a fun filled day and we urge

all to get involved and support the event.

So, get your 4-ball together (or enter individually) and book now

already (at the pro-shop) to avoid disappointment.

The new single challenge draw sheet for round 3 has been posted on the

notice board and is also listed below. Please note that this round is to be

completed by 15 September 2019 and the result must be noted on the

draw sheet.

Handicaps News

August 2019

Last week you would have received an interesting email from the Handicap Network regarding rule changes coming into effect on 1 October 2019.

The easier one of the two to understand is that handicaps will be calculated based on the best 8 of your last 20 scores as opposed to the best 10 multiplied by 0.96

The second change as of 1 October 2019 is to the method used for determining the maximum score entered per hole for handicap purposes. In the mail they refer to a Net Two Over Par (or Net Double Bogey), which is equal to Zero Stableford points. Simply put, it is the score on the hole which when reached gives you zero stableford points. So Let’s go through an example or two. o An 18 course handicap golfer who gets a stroke on every hole

will get 3 stableford points for par, 2 for 1 over par (bogey), 1 for 2 over par (double bogey) and “0” for for 3 over par (7 on a par 4). So the 18 handicapper will enter a score of 3 over par on holes where they blow out (don’t score points).

o A scratch handicap golfer however, will enter a maximum of 2 over par on a hole where they blow out as they score no points for 2 over par.

o A 30 handicapper will enter a maximum of 4 over par on the

holes where they double stroke (strokes 1 to 12) as they would get 1 point for 3 over par on a double stroke hole but 0 for 4 over par.

o And just to complete the loop, a 12 handicapper will record a

maximum of 2 over par on the holes where they do not stroke (strokes 13 to 18) as they get “0” stableford points for 2 over par on these holes, but record 3 over par on the holes where they stroke (strokes 1 to 12).

As mentioned in the newsletter dated 14 August 2019, there are a number of maintenance initiative in progress on the golf course. These are listed below with progress noted in red.

Bare patches on greens will be replaced with sods by September Done

The brown patches on the greens will be over seeded Done

Some roots next to the greens, tee boxes and fairways will be removed This has been started (11 tee box etc.)

Greens will be Verti-drained and dusted between September – October. Please note that this was done on Monday 2 September 2019

A plan of action is being developed to address the uneven tee boxes Still under way.

Some trees at the tee boxes will be removed as they hamper growth The 9th and 18th tee boxes (although already redone) are not growing

properly due mainly to the large trees next to them. For this reason, some off the trees at these tee boxes will be pruned or cut down to allow for some more sunlight to filter onto the tee boxes.
