THE local SAPS have confiscated a number of fake or grey Samsung Galaxy S4 cellular phones this week. Captain Mathelele showed us a number of these phones, complete with covers, genuine boxes, with chargers and documentation, being sold on the streets locally for around R800 each. A legitimate version of the S4 sells for at least R6000, so a few customers thought that they were buying a bargain.This is a common problem, as fake Rolex and other high end watches are often also on sale on the streets. These products are often stolen from legitimate vendors, or are grey imported via the East. One can clearly see that the labels on the phones had been tampered with.In this case a docket number 171/08/2014 has been opened. Two suspects have been arrested and the case will appear in court on 4 September.Capt. Mathelele informed us that the SAPS have checked serial numbers with Samsung SA and they confirmed that these phones were not genuine. Members of the public are warned not to buy items from vendors on the streets who pull their goods out of plastic bags and offer ridiculous prices, as the purchase of stolen goods is also a crime.If you have information, contact Maj. EARLY Friday morning we were called to the little road that goes to Estralita, as a Golf was lying on its side in the river next to the small bridge, with the number plates removed. No skid marks were apparent and the car did not show any signs of a high speed crash. We can only speculate on what happened and received many comments and theories. Most plausible was that the car was parked on the road apron and who knows what shenanigans went on in the car, but it appears the handbrake failed and the car simply coasted onto the side of the bridge and flipped over. How to solve the what shall I do with my life-puzzle As matrics gear up to write one of the most important exams in their life, a large number of them are facing an additional source of stress their indecision about what they are going to study next year.It is important for school leavers in this situation to deal decisively with the issue, as pushing this stress to the back of their minds while trying to focus on their exams will impact negatively on their ability to perform to the best of their ability, says Dr Felicity Coughlan, Director of the Independent Institute of Education, SA's largest and most accredited private higher education institution.Coughlan says that learners in this situation will constantly battle the twin stresses of the exams as well as uncertainty about the future, and that this will take away from the all-important focus required to perform optimally when writing their papers.She says that dealing with the issue of post-matric will allow them to direct their energies appropriately, and advises putting aside some time to dispose of the what am I going to be when I grow up-conundrum.Schedule a few days to thoroughly investigate your options and make a decision about where it is that you want to go, she says.Coughlan advises learners to use this time to consider three aspects, which will help them decide on their future studies:BE REALISTIC: Look at your subjects and your envisaged results. It is no use shooting for medicine, when you did not take the requisite subjects during your final school years. But it is

equally important even when you do have the right subjects to be realistic about the level of performance that is required to get in to medicine and to have a plan B. It is also probably not a good idea to look at studying design, when you have never lifted a creative finger in your life. But you would be doing yourself a disservice to not consider design if you are very creative - even if you did not do Visual Arts at school. The connection between school and what you do next is not totally linear.Consider your subjects, your marks, and your interests those things that make you

feel happy and alive and take it from there.DO YOUR HOMEWORK: There are countless institutions and courses out there. It is no longer the case that a university degree is the only option if you want a successful career not only are there interesting options in the diploma and higher certificate space, but degrees themselves are now widely available from registered private higher education institutions that may well offer you an experience more suited to your needs. Many private institutions offer specific additional focus areas such work-integrated courses with the sole aim of equipping you to perform on the job from day one. There are also far more options available today than there were even five years ago new fields, new courses, new institutions, new opportunities. There is a strong chance that what you have been told at school is based mostly on what your teachers know and experienced, so do your own homework. DRAW UP A SHORTLIST AND PUT YOUR CONCERNS TO REST Once you've determined which courses interest you, check to see that you meet the entrance criteria and find out when applications close it is sooner than you may think. Draw up a shortlist and diarise when the application for each course needs to be submitted, and get them in on time. Make sure you submit more than one application for more than one option to more than one type of institution. Hedge your bets.Then put your concerns aside and focus wholly on doing your absolute best in your final exam. Although you won't be worrying about your post-matric direction anymore, the options will simmer in your subconscious, and you will almost certainly, when the time comes, know exactly which road to pursue, Dr Coughlan says.

New SA regulations for travelling with kids effective from October 2014South African parents travelling with children, will shortly need more than a passport to take their offspring out of the country. From 1 October 2014 parents will be requested to provide an unabridged birth certificate (including the details of the child's father as well as the mother) of all travelling children. This applies even when both parents are travelling with their children. It also applies to foreigners and South Africans alike. When children are travelling with guardians, these adults are required to produce affidavits from parents proving permission for the children to travel. It is important for parents to note that unabridged birth certificate applications can take anything from six to eight weeks to complete, says Ronel Byleveldt from Flight Centre in Lydenburg. We assume that this regulation applies to international travel only, in other words whenever you go through immigration. We are also waiting for confirmation about what age constitutes as a child whether it is 16 or 18. For any passengers travelling soon - we advise that they travel with as much documentation or proof as possible. The Municipality dug this furrow and has now for more than two years failed to repair it properly with tar. The pot holes near the Spar-O-Rama complex at the intersection of Brown, and Greyling streets and in front of the centre at Yillies, are also a serious and growing problem, not being repaired properly. Please guys, put a team in there, dig out the pot holes and repair them with tar. We will be very grateful.

VERLEDE Sondag hoor mense n hond wat huil toe hulle van die kerk af terugkom. Die oop stuk veld langs hulle huis (Sterkspruit plotte) is onlangs gebrand en mense los nou hul vullis daar. Toe hulle gaan kyk kry hulle n hondjie met draad om haar nek vasgemaak tussen die hoop vullis, daar gelos om te vrek. Hulle het haar los gemaak en huistoe gevat, skoon gemaak en versorg, maar hul ander honde wil nie die hondjie aanvaar nie, so hulle soek nou n huis vir haar. DESIGNER Models School van Lydenburg het op 16 Augustus by Estralita Skool gaan kuier en vir die kinders wat in die koshuis bly gaan model loop en lekkers vir hulle uitgedeel. Dit was baie lekker om die kinders se gesiggies te sien, hoe hulle dit baie geniet het. Daar was omtrent 160 kinders teenwoordig. Designer Models wil meer vir die gemeenskap doen en hulle sal weer vir die kinders gaan kuier. So di projek is maar die begin van vele meer. Netta Dryer, een van Designer Models se vennote wil baie dankie se dat Estralita Skool en Hanlie Swanepoel hulle met ope arms verwelkom het en baie dankie aan hulle modelle en mammas wat hulle so baie ondersteun. As daar kinders is van klein tot groot wat belang stel in modelwerk kan hulle kontak maak met Netta Dreyer by 082 255 4060.Hanlie Swanepoel writes: The Designer Models owned by Netta Dreyer came to visit Estralita School on Saturday 16 August at 18:00. What an experience! Their models are beautiful and all the boy-learners fell in love immediately. Our girl-learners all wanted to become models when they grow up in order to also have those gorgeous dresses. The young models displayed casual wear and evening dresses - it was lovely. To make the evening even more perfect they also handed out goody bags to all the learners. Everyone wanted to pose for a photo with the models and there were smiles all round. Thank you Designer Models for reaching out to us, we enjoyed the evening tremendously. Please do come again. Thank you also to Juffrou Nemsa who organised the visit.

It usually takes two to tango.The virtues of changing your job, your car, your wife, your religion, your habits such as smoking, your environment, your house, your business, etc. are forever rammed down your throat. It is (they say) an exciting adventure to keep on changing, as you meet new people, experience new things and so on. Blah blah blah...This is of course all hogwash. Most of the changes I have seen have only taken us backwards. The Government, which promised a better life for all is one example. Most of the majority people are still waiting for a better life and are actually

worse off after 20 years.I do not like change. It causes stress, disease and leads to anxiety and madness. Just look at society in general, where mental health has become a rarity.I like my comfort zone. It is not called a comfort zone for nothing. I am comfortable in it. I like it. I like the smell of my pipe tobacco and my braaivleis. I like my job and my surroundings. I like my friends. I like my worn out old leather chair and my old car with window winders. I like my routine. I like being surrounded by familiar things. I like certain tastes, smells and foods. No, to hell with change. It does not work for me.

SHOWING that its not quite done showing off its FT-1 concept, Toyotas released a second interpretation of the wannabe Supra from its California, US, design studio. (Can anyone remember just how many 86 concepts we were exposed to before the real deal arrived?)The original FT-1 concept attracted some serious attention with its debut at the Detroit motor show in January and this versions graphite paintwork and light-coloured leather is said to be a more upscale interpretation of the concept.Considered the shape of Toyotas to come, the FT-1 is inspired by classics such as the 200GT, Celica, Supra and MR2, and is, according to the car maker, designed to get the heart racing.While the first FT-1 was a stunning bold red with dramatic black interior, the second is a more understated affair with saddle-coloured natural grain leathers and brown accents to offset the metallic exterior paint sheen. The interior detail, designer Sellene Lee says, was inspired by the modern, performance materials used for superhero concepts and the finishes on high-end leather accessories.

THE immortal 650cc T120 Bonnie was Triumphs first commercially made vertical twin, dual-carbed motorcycle shown at the Earls Court Motorcycle Show in 1959 (there was Ernie Lyons 500cc Grand Prix TT winning machine, but thats another story).That Bonnie name, incidentally, came from an American-made machine specially developed to break land speed records at the Bonneville Salt Flat in the US, achieving 344km/h in the capable hands of one Johnny Allen.The pre-unit construction (separate gearbox) Bonnie was the bike much sought after by the leather-clad, ton-up boys of the day in the UK a term that denoted that your motorcycle could truly exceed 160km/h. Sales, at the height of the early-60s boom where around 1 000 machines being built at the Meriden factory in the Midlands town of Coventry, saw ticket prices of just R5 130 (285). Rather good value, I think youll agree.If the standard Bonnie wasnt fast enough the real motorcycle enthusiast could specify the by now unit-construction (gearbox and motor combined) Thruxton Bonneville version. Not that many were ordered with only a few dozen being built and sold around 1965. Clip-on handlebars, a bacon-slicer front brake and a top speed some 15km/h quicker over a standard Bonnie but offering amazing acceleration perfect for beating your mate to the Ace Caf in North London, a true British bikers haunt thats still open every night to this very day.Exported to many countries around the globe including South Africa meant that the one seen in the picture alongside found its way to Natal (thats the writer seen alongside, by the way). Fed up with the standard Bonnie claret and silver livery I decided to repaint the fuel tank, oil tank and tool box of my American-style 120R Bonnie a bike that cost R975 in late 1969 and bought from well-known British bike dealer Jacks Motors in Johannesburg.Often touted as the only real classic Bonnie to own, that particular bike proved reliable and stayed in the Fall family for many years.I once remember having the misfortune to melt a piston after hammering the bike back from Durban to Pietermaritzburg on a particularly hot day but spare parts were easily available and removing the head and barrel revealed only superficial damage. It was straightforward enough to have the bike back on the road the following weekend. Moral of the story: if you are going to thrash a bike at least put both petrol taps on!Today, some 35 years later I still ride a bike albeit a BMW single completely devoid of soul; press the start button on the handlebars and it fires up first time, no matter how long its been standing.Thinking back to the Bonnie, a single prod on the kick start (no electric starter) was all that was needed to get things moving. Drum brakes (twin leading shoe up front, at least), the narrowest of tyres and rather dim lights all around.Did we really ride at such alarming speeds back then, and with the wife or girlfriend on the pillion? NISSAN has launched the eagerly awaited Pathfinder range, including the first Russian-made petrol-electric hybrid, at the 2014 Moscow Motor Show. The Pathfinder's debut with the new Russian-built Sentra sedan (a model already launched in South Africa) has re-affirmed, Nissan's commitment to bringing to selling 'Built in Russia' products with local buyers in mind.Nissan in 2014 has stepped up its commitment to the Russian market - its largest in the Euro / Russian area - through the launch of nine new vehicles and increased localised production. The automaker now offers a full range of products across every market segment - including Russia's first affordable and first Russian-built hybrid model with the debut of the Pathfinder. Also at the Moscow show are the new Nissan Juke and new Nissan GT-R Nismo - hold thumbs, the Nismo might just make it to SA!Nissan SA says customers prefer the current model in the local market with the more rugged look. The Sentra making its Russian debut was launched in South Africa in August 2013. Nissan Russia has a strong collaboration with Alliance partners Renault and AvtoVAZ through joint manufacturing. And the company is well on its way to achieving regional goals: together with recently resuscitated Datsun, Nissan aims to reach 10% market share within three years with 90% of vehicles sold in Russia, built in Russia. Paul Willcox, chairman of Nissan's operations in Europe, said: "Nissan already has a strong presence in Russia and we're committed to increasing that local presence through increased Russian design, engineering and production so that we can make the cars that Russia's drivers want and need while boosting jobs and the wider Russian economy. "Innovative and accessible Russian-built vehicles such as the Pathfinder and Sentra demonstrate that our commitment to Russian drivers has never been stronger." Pathfinder production is being added to Nissan's operation in St Petersburg, the addition of which will contribute to Nissan's doubling of production there to 100 000 units a year. Nissan's all-new fourth-generation Pathfinder will be available with 3.5 petrol or 2.5 hybrid power. It will be equipped with an "intelligent" 4x4 system and the latest X-tronic transmission. Production of Pathfinder's hybrid engine variant will make the St Petersburg plant Russia's first to produce a hybrid. The plant currently builds the Teana, Murano and X-Trail; Qashqai will be added in 2015.Sentra production is a collaboration with Alliance partner AvtoVAZ, the country's largest automaker, and will be built at the AvtoVAZ plant in Izhevsk, Russia's capital city, near Ural. The C-segment sedan will be available with a 1.6 petrol engine and a choice of five-speed manual or X-tronic auto transmission. Nissan also produces vehicles at the AvtoVAZ plant in Togliatti, in the Samara region, which is already producing the Nissan Almera and Datsun On-do. Die wedstryd is deur Spar geborg. Die wenner van die dag was Johnny Desmore, Richard Gould en Ellen Gould van Waterval Boven. Hulle het 39 wedstryd punte en 14 uitdun punte. Tweede was Maureen Roux, Elda Rautenbach, Susan de Vries en Ester Strydom (een van Lydenburg se spelers) wat uitgehelp het nadat Maureen etenstyd moes verklaar weens 'n besering. Hulle is van Lowveld Country Club in Nelspruit. Hulle totale punte was 39 en uitdun punte van 12. Derde was Hubert Fahy, Derick Grobler en Debbie Grobler ook van Lowveld Country Club in Nelspruit. Hulle het 'n totaal van 38 punte gekry. Daar was ook 'n 'Spider rondte' gespeel en Raffle kaartjies verkoop. In totaal het die twee saam ongeveer R700 ingesamel. ELKE laaste Vrydag van die maand se vleiskompetisie by die Lydenburg Gholfklub word geborg deur AQS Liquid Transfers. Op die foto van links: derde plek Jaco van Rooyen, tweede plek Jaco Bothma en eerste plek, Ben Smit. Die totale pryse op so dag is n volle R1000. Te n s p y t e d i e k o u e e n kragonderbrekings het die klub ampern vol veld gehad.Namens die klub en die lede wil Sybrand-hulle vir Steven, Hennie en Clint van AQS Liquid Transfers baie dankie s vir hulle bydrae tot die dag. Sonder borge sal hulle dit glad nie kan regkry nie.Onthou dat vanaf die 8ste September af, die baan gesluit gaan wees vir ten minste 2 weke vir ernstige onderhoud op die baan. Maar die Driving Range Proshop, restaurant en kroeg sal nog steeds oop wees met groot spesiale aanbiedings vir hul lede en besoekers.
