INTRODUCTION
This new product brochure has been developed to ensure we continue to supply you with the most up-to-date and relevant safety sign solutions.
CONTENTS
LEGISLATION UPDATES
ISO 7010:2011 prescribes safety signs for the purposes of accident prevention, fire protection, health hazard information and emergency evacuation. The shape and colour of each safety sign are according to ISO 3864-1 and the design of the graphical symbols is according to ISO 3864-3.
We have been supplying ISO 7010 compliant signs since its introduction in 2011 and we keep abreast of any amendments or additions to the approved list of graphical symbols. To date there have been 8 amendments to ISO 7010:2011, adding a wide range of symbols to the Standard, and as such we have designed and developed a range of new signs to incorporate some of the more common and popular safety messages.

FIRE SPRINKLER SYSTEMS
There is a growing call for fire sprinklers to be fitted in all high rise buildings, in the wake of the Grenfell Tower blaze. Automatic fire suppression systems are already compulsory for new residential premises in Wales, and many MPs, fire brigades and building/housing associations are urging the rest of the UK to follow suit, and even go further with calls to enforce retro-fitting into existing high rise blocks and other buildings with vulnerable residents. Sprinklers are seen as the only system which detects a fire, suppresses a fire and raises the alarm, making them vitally important as part of a package of fire safety measures, particularly in buildings where there are vulnerable people such as care-homes and schools. Evidence from the US (NFPA) shows that deaths per thousand reported fires were 87% lower where sprinklers were fitted. We have developed a range of signs to help identify sprinkler systems and locations of important equipment within the building as outlined in BS EN 12845:2015 Fixed firefighting systems. Automatic sprinkler systems. Design, installation and maintenance

FIRE PROTECTION DOOR
A fire door tends to be an internal wooden one whose purpose is to enable an emergency escape route through a property and help to compartmentalise a fire, preventing the spread of smoke and flames. These doors do not have to be a fire rated fire door and are usually identified by a sign with a blue circle and white text. Alternatively, a fire protection door must have a proven fire rating that is at least as high as the rest of the building’s structure. This fire rating includes the entire door assembly comprising the door frame, any glazing, intumescent fire and smoke seals and all the door furniture, such as hinges, door closers, latches and locks. Here in the United Kingdom a fire resisting door set should be subjected to either a British Standard Fire Test BS 476 Part 22 1987, or a BS/EN 1634-1 2000 test.

The hazards that people are exposed to from robots and machinery have traditionally been controlled by the use of guarding, interlocking and cordoning off areas. However, it is becoming increasingly commonplace to see personnel and remotely operated machinery working in closer physical proximity to each other. This requires new approaches to highlighting the risks associated with such working environments.

ARC FLASH
ASPHYXIATION
Asphyxiation is a condition caused by the body being starved of oxygen. Situations that can cause asphyxia include but are not limited to: the constriction or obstruction of airways, such as from asthma, laryngospasm, or simple blockage from the presence of foreign materials; from being in environments where oxygen is not readily accessible: such as underwater, in a low oxygen atmosphere, or in a vacuum/confined space; environments where sufficiently oxygenated air is present, but cannot be adequately breathed because of air contamination such as excessive smoke/dust particles.

An arc flash is an explosive release of thermal energy including brilliant light, dangerous sound levels and sometimes a blast pressure wave. It is primarily caused by an electrical short circuit or overvoltage between live conductors or live conductor and earth. The heat generated can vaporise the copper conductors and insulating materials, producing a hot, toxic cloud. Where the flashover results in a blast, it can be accompanied by explosive noise and shrapnel. Numerous workers are injured and/or killed each year while working on energized equipment. Many of these casualties are a result of arc flash. Isolating the supply of electricity and using appropriate PPE are popular methods for reducing the risk of an arc flash, as is the use of appropriate signage to highlight the inherent dangers.

RIGHT TO REFUSE SALE
We launched a new range of age verification signs in our 2018/19 catalogue to help tackle under age drinking concerns. Following a recent trend in acid attacks we have extended this range to include a version relating to the sale of items containing corrosive substances for shops to display.

The continuing spate of news stories relating to sexual harassment and exploitation throughout the entertainment, political and charitable industries has raised concerns about corporate complacency and accusations of companies turning a blind eye to employee misdemeanours. Our new range of Zero Tolerance Policy signs allows companies to promote their stance towards equality, diversity and inclusion within the workplace – ensuring all stakeholders are clear on company policy.

MENTAL HEALTH
We’ve also noticed a trend for first aid courses focused on mental health issues and our new sign identifies first aiders who have been trained to help individuals talk through any issues (this sign compliments our new range of posters).
AED
We’ve noticed a considerable surge in demand for AED signage in the past 12 months so have added location signage to ensure staff, visitors and the general public know where to find their nearest unit or trained member of staff.
