| RAKESH.MALIK2 @timesgroup.com W ith the aim to bring world-class infrastructure to the city of Luc- know, when the dream for getting the metro was conceived and the announce- ment was made by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, everyone was elated. By going by the past repu- tation of the other government projects, many residents were cynical about the real work start- ing on the project. But, now with some signs of work getting un- derway, the residents of the city are now hoping that Lucknow will soon be able to have a world- class mass rapid transit system that will convenient, safe, fast, reliable and cost-effective. For the seamless execution of the project the Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation Limited has been working tirelessly to meet the stipulated deadline of early 2017. As part of the first phase Luc- know Metro Rail Project has planned to include two corridors; North-South and East-West; and the Gomti Nagar link. The con- struction cost of the project has been estimated at over `7,000 crore. The North-South corridor was to connect Amausi airport to Munshipulia and cover a dis- tance of 23 km, including 14.87 km elevated, 1 km ramp and 7.2 km underground. This corridor will have a total 22 stations in- cluding 18 overhead and 4 under- ground. The elevated stations would have included the Airport terminal, Amausi, Transport Na- gar, Krishna Nagar, Singaar Na- gar, Alambagh, Alambagh ISBT. This shall be followed by an un- derground section that will in- clude Hussain Ganj, Sachivalaya (Uttar Pradesh Secretariat), Hazratganj, KD Singh Babu Sta- dium. Here after, the track will be elevated again, stations in the sequence are Dalibagh crossing, Lucknow University, IT College, Mahanagar, Badshahnagar, Lekhraj Market, Ramsagar Mishra Nagar, Indira Nagar and a new ter- minus Munshi Pulia. For the Gomti Nagar link, the train com- ing from the airport ter- minal will be diverted to- wards Gomti Nagar at the Indira Nagar trisection Polytechnic crossing along an elevated route. The planned stations are Indira Nagar Trisection, West End Mall [Waves Multiplex], Gomti Nagar and Patrakarpuram. The East-West corridor has been planned to connect the Lucknow Railway Station at Charbagh to Vasant Kunj on Hardoi Road and have a total length of 11 km, including 4.29 km elevated, 0.5 km ramp and 6.3 km underground. This corridor will have 12 stations including seven underground and five overhead. The stations at Luc- know Railway Station (Charbagh), Gautam Buddha Marg, Aminabad, Pandeyganj, Chattrapati Shahuji Maharaj Medical University (King George Medical University) and Niwaz- ganj were to be below ground lev- el, and an elevated section for the Thakurganj, Balaganj, Sarfaraz- ganj, Moosabagh and the Vasant Kunj terminal stations. Taking a bout the project a senior Lucknow Metro Rail Cor- poration Limited official said, "The spade working for the con- struction is already on and very soon a lot of on ground construc- tion work will be visible to the residents of the city. Once in place, the metro will prove to be boon for the residents of the city and also improve quality of life." With the construction of the metro getting underway, real es- tate in the area too, has started witnessing growth. Demand for property is rocketing even as many real estate players are of- fering and launching several projects in the area offering thousands of units. With affordability being a con- stant and connectivity expected to get better in the days to come, the property prices in the area are witnessing an upward swing. Real estate players and mar- ket experts say that prices in the area are set to increase as the project nears completion and gets functional. Prices in the area increased from Rs 2,200 per sq ft to Rs 2,800 per sq ft in the recent past in many areas. Currently, the rates are in the range of Rs 2,800-6,900 per sq ft depending on the project and the areas along the metro stretch.
