LUHSD Athletic Hall of Fame Message from the President
We are inducting six individuals and one team. The Board of Direclors feels that these inductees represenL truly outstanding accomplishments and contributions Lo the LUHSD athletic history. I agree wholeheartedly.
As we celebrate the Twenty-Sixth Annual LUI-ISD Induction dinner, we salute the outstanding group of people being honored tonight for their successes in athletics and in life and for their positive contributions to their communities. They are all successful citizens - Lhe same work ethic, determination, pride and dedication that made them successful athletes continues to play an important part in their present lives.
I congratulate all of the inductees on behalf of the Board of Directors of the Hall or Fame. They are certainly worthy and deserve Lhe honor being bestowed on them tonight. Our inductees are on permanent display in the main hallway of Independence High School. Please make an effort to come by and visit the display - it is truly a trip clown memory lane. The Athletic Hall of Fame is deeply indebted to the LUI-ISD administration and the Board of Trustees for making this a reality.

On the baseball diamond, Kevin earned a varsity leller in each or his four years. He was a lhree-time All-League selection culminating in being selecled to the Firsl-Team his senior year vvhere he balled .357, scored 23 runs. had 25 hils and drove in 16 runs. He was also Captain or lhal 2010 Learn Lhat won the school's i'irsl l3VAL Baseball Championship.
Kevin did all or these things while laking a rigorous course or studies and mainlaining a rn>A or over a -1-.0 during each season or sport. He was an NCS Scholar Athlele every season in both baseball and basketball and was a \\'inner or the Alhlelic Director's Award each season lhal recognized alhlelic and academic excellence. He culminaled his -1--year high school career by being named Heritage High School's Male Scholar-Alhlele or Lhe Year.
He was also very involved in Leadership and sludent government. He held the positions or freshman and sophomore class Vice-Presidenl, Head Commissioner of Athletics and was the ASB Vice-Presidenl his senior year.
After gradualion, Kevin went on to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and earned a BS in stalislics wilh a minor in mathematics. While at Cal Poly, he
conlinued his alhlelic career as a member or the Club Baseball team. He played firsl base and right field and was two-Lime Nalional Club "Player or Lhe Week." During his junior year, the team advanced all the ·way to Regional Playoffs. He is currently a licensed psychiatric lechnician at Lhe Atascadero State Hospital.

Jessica Khalil had a mission while at Heritage High School: Do everything to the besl or ~1our ability. let no one out work you, and when you had succeeded move on lo something else!

As you will begin to see. her time "vas consumed from August to.June as she became a multi-sporL alhlete during each or her years at Heritage High School. This girl never look a clay off! She played freshman volleyball,.JV basketball and.JV softball in her firsl year. During her sophomore year, she played.JV volleyball and earned varsily lelters in basketball and softball. That soflball season, her team won Heritage High School's only NC :s Lille. ror which they were inducted inlo the 1-Iall or Fame in 2016 and was an NCS Scholastic Championship Team.
Jessica continued to leller in baskelball and soflball in her final lwo years al llerilage bul also found a new passion in Lhe game or foolball. During her junior year. she became a wide-receiver on lhe.JV football Learn and caughl a touchdown pass. She "venl on to compete and earn a varsily lctler her senior season on the foolball leam thal culminated in Lhe NCS playoffs wilh her making a reception in the playoff game.
On top or Lhe alhlelic accomplishments, she also excelled in the classroom! In every season or sport, she earned the NC:S Scholar Alhlele Award and Lhe ,-\thlelic Direclor's Award for athletic and academic excellence. Following her senior year, she earned two very prestigious awards from Heritage. She was named Lhe Tri-Sport Award , winner that goes to any senior alhlete thal earns three letters during their senior year, and she was the 2009 Female Scholar Alhlele or the Year.
Following graduation.Jessica conlinuecl her athletic career by earning a scholarship to compele al Sacramento Stale on Lhe Women's Division 1 Rowing Team. She competed on thal team through 2012,
earning Dean's Lisl honors and then switched over lo women's rugby The Libe1'ly Union High School for her final season. She also found time to play women's proressional

Softball -- Volleyball
Stacy Perez May was born on.June 10, 1971 and raised in Oakley. She starlecl her education al Gehringer Elemenlary and Oakley Middle School before allencling Liberly Union High School, graclualing in 1989. During her years at Liberty, Slacy excelled in Lwo sports - volleyball and soflball.
As a freshman, Slacy slarted on lhe.JV volleyball team and the.JV softball team. As a sophomore, Slacy played varsity volleyball where she earned her Block "L." She was named "Most Improved Player." Stacy and her teammates made volleyball history at Liberly by making it lo Lhc NCS playoffs in 1986.
The sport lhal Slacy really excelled in \<Vas softball. Al the encl or Stacy's freshman year, she was moved up to the varsity softball team. She found a home \<Vith the varsity learn and remained Lhere during lhe next Lhree years earning her Block ""L."
In sollball. she began to grmv into her cenlerfield position as an offensive and del'ensive player. In 1987. she \<Vas named varsity leam's "i\'1ost Inspirational Player." In 1988, Stacy was named "Top Del'cnsivc Player." To round off a great sol'tball career in 1989, she earned both the ""Golden Glove" and "Top Offensive Player" for the Liberty Lions.
Softball Coach Rich Barrios said of Slacy, '"Stacy had all the characteristics of a true cenlerfielder, a strong arm and an uncanny ability to cover l'rom left center field to right center field without much apparent effort. The characteristic thal slood out the mosl \<vhen iL came lo Stacy's ability was her underslancling of how she should react to the ball coming off the bal in order Lo make Lhc play. Did she need lo be overly aggressive and charge Lhe ball, or did she need to sit back and let the ball come to her'?"
Aclclilional accolades in 1989 included being selected lo the Diablo Foothill All-League first team. In 1989 Stacy was also named Contra Cosla Times Athlete of Lhe Week. In 1989, Stacy and her teammates look firsL place in the Diablo Foothill League and wenL on to play in the North Coast Section playoffs.
Following high school, Stacy began ·working for Dr. Gregory Castillo, a chiropractor in Pittsburg. She is currently the Office Manager. She married Tom May, ancl they have two sons. Stacy has remained active in softball and baseball coaching both her sons in the East County Litlle League program. You may catch Stacy playing on sollball Learns in the Oakley area.

1992 Liberty HS Lady Lions Track Team Coached by:

The 1992 Liberty High School Lady Lions Track Team distinguished itself as one of the top track teams in school's history by winning the Diablo Foothill Athletic League (DFAL) dual meet and league meet championships. They went on to finish in the top live of the North Coast Section. Not since the 1978
season had a Lady Lions Track Team accomplished this feat. The fifteen-member team bonded together under coaching legend Keith Dawson and assistant coach
Mark.Johnson. They finished second to Acalanes in 1991 (losing 79 to 72). The 1992 Lady Lions led by seniors, Andrea England, Tracy DeLany, and Ivy Turner tore through league competition with an 11-1
dual meet record. They avenged the previous year's loss by defeating Acalanes 76 to 71 in their dual meet to take first place al the DFAL. They went on to the DFAL meeL al Oiablo Valley College to capture first place. To accomplish this, each of the fifteen Lady Lions competed in multiple events (up to four each) throughouL the season.
'ix Lady Lions went on to compete in North Coast Section competition: Andrea England in the 100,
200, Long and Triple.Jumps and the 4 x 100 relay; Tracy DeLany in the 800, 1600, and 3200 meters; Ivy Turner in the 100, 200 and 4 x 100 relay; Christine Brockett in the Long and Triple.Jump and the 4 x 100
relay; Lisa Bell in the no and 300 meler hurdles; and.Juli Russell in the 300 meter and High.Jump. Andrea England qualified for the Long and Triple.Jumps, and Tracy DeLany qualified for the 1600 and 3200 meters in the Meet of Champions at the Universily of California, Berkeley.

Liberty High School Lady Lions Track Team into the .-\lhlcLic Hall of Fame for this outstanding team's athletes and coaches hard work, dedication and outstanding achievements.
