Woman robbed on G.N. ChettyRoad in broad daylight

A 24-year-old woman waiting outside a luxury hotel on G. N. Chetty Roadwas robbed off her handbag by two men on a motorcycle in full public viewat around 9.30 a.m on Feb. 2.

Police said that the victim, a software professional, was waiting for heroffice transport when the incident occurred. Two men on a bike, wearinghelmets, rode up to her. The pillion rider got off the bike, walked towardsher and tried to snatch her handbag. When she resisted, the other riderjoined him and the two assaulted her, pushed her down and raced awayafter grabbing the handbag. She suffered minor bruises. She said thatthere were some persons standing nearby but no one came forward to helpher when she was attacked. She told the police that her handbag containedsome electronic gadgets, some cash and credit cards. A complaint lodgedin Teynampet Police Station is under investigation.

Speed-breaker or back-breaker?Sir, There seems to be no standard norms in constructing

speed-breakers. In several places, speed-breakers have beenleft incomplete or constructed with huge humps, giving vehicleriders a tough time. Such is the case of the speed-breaker builtin front of the old age home on Abdul Aziz Street (T. Nagar).The hump is so huge that vehicles, especially 2-wheelers,struggle to go over it. There have been several incidents whena rider has lost control and fallen from the vehicle while goingover the speed-breaker. It is not visible at night and can easilycatch an unwary rider on the wrong foot. Further, during heavyrains, water gets collected in front of the old age home as thespeed-breaker obstructs the free flow of water into the stormwater drain. Residents dump garbage on roadside as bingoes missing

Sir, Chennai Corporation had kept a large garbage collectionbin near a vacant plot on 12th Avenue, Ashok Nagar. After theplot owner appointed a watchman recently, the garbage binwas moved without the approval of the Corporation to thejunction of 12th Avenue and 67th Street which is more thanabout 200 meters away. Since Jan. 30, the bin has gonemissing. Since then residents have started to dump their dailyhouse waste at the street junction where the bin was lastlocated. The spot stinks and is very unhygienic. The Corpora-tion workers are also finding it difficult to clear the garbage asit is thrown all over the place. men after they tried to rob a cellphone shop manager who wentto deposit Rs. 9 lakhs cash in abank in T. Nagar.

According to the police, AhmedAli (31), manager of a phoneoutlet in Burma Bazaar, wasgoing to the bank to deposit theday’s collection when the gangtargeted him. Police said thatwhen Ahmed got out of his caroutside ING Vysya Bank(Venkatnarayana Road, T.Nagar) at 2.30 p.m, a man threwchilli powder on his face.
