Friends of the Cabildo is a privatenon-profit volunteer group that pro-vides financial and volunteer supportfor the Louisiana State Museum, itsprojects and its property. Since incor-porating in 1956, the Friends of theCabildo has grown into a large state-wide membership organization, a dy-namic and motivating force in broaden-ing and supporting the aims of theLouisiana State Museum.

Registration Now Openfor Delgado CommunityCollege Class on NewOrleans Queer History

Delgado Community College hasannounced it will offer a course begin-ning on February 25 called LGBT+History of New Orleans. The courseruns for eight weeks and concludes onApril 8. Registration for the course isnow open.

Rachelle Matherne, Assistant Di-rector of Continuing Education at DCCsays, “New Orleans is important to theLGBQT history of the U.S., as much asLGBQT residents and tourists are im-portant to the fabric of New Orleans,both past and current. There is a void inlocal educational opportunities relatedto these topics, and this class definitelyfills that void. I’m very excited to beoffering this class through DelgadoCommunity College.”

The course is being developed andwill be taught by local historian FrankPerez.

Perez has written two books on thehistory of New Orleans, In Exile: TheHistory and Lore Surrounding NewOrleans Gay Culture and Its OldestGay Bar (with Jeff Palmquist) andTreasures of the Vieux Carre: TenSelf-Guided Walking Tours of theFrench Quarter. He also has a regularcolumn in Ambush Magazine entitled“Moments in Gay New Orleans His-tory” and currently teaches the Ad-vanced Tour-Guiding course at DCC. Alicensed tour guide, Perez has alsodeveloped a walking tour of gay NewOrleans history.

The LGBT+ History of New Or-leans course is non-credit class andenrollment is open to the general pub-lic. According to Perez, there will be noassignments and no grades, “just a lotof fascinating history.” The format ofthe class will be lecture and discussion.
