DEAR LITTLE CHAPEL ON THE BOARDWALK FAMILY, What a wonderful and glorious time we had this past weekend with Dr. Heath Rada and his wife, Peggy. Dr. Rada’s talk on Saturday and his discussion with the combined Sunday school classes on Sunday and his sermon that morning left me refreshed, re-energized and with new hope for the Presbyterian Church USA, and I hope it did the same for you. Dr. Rada’s humbleness, his passion, his care and his enthusiasm for the Church at large and for the PCUSA in particular were evident in every venue in which he spoke. A special thanks to the following for helping to make the weekend such a wonderful success: Bob and Patsy Nelson, Jean Schild, Barbara Williams, Jim Herren, Dan Holt and Martha Parker. And a special thank you to Mildred McIver and the Malcolm McIver Lecture Series. It was a great weekend. I am in the process of collecting notes that people took of Dr. Rada’s talk on Saturday, and soon I will put them in document form and have them in the narthex for anyone who would like to have a copy. Dr. Rada has also promised that he would send us a manuscript of his sermon from Sunday (with the complete ending) and once we receive that, we will put copies in the narthex as well. It is truly because of people with the vision and leadership of Dr. Rada, that as a denomination we can be sure we will continue to move in the direction that God intends. WHAT WAS THAT ANTHEM?

Members of our congregation have been remarking about the anthem presented by our Chancel Choir on February 22 when Dr. Rada led worship, asking for more details about the piece.

Many Gifts, One Spirit is a contemporary piece (1986) with words and mu-sic by American composer Allen Pote. It is a prayer for unity in the church. The anthem was planned as a compliment and re-enforcement of Dr. Rada’s message, its text (partial) as follows:

Many gifts, one Spirit, many songs, one voice. Many reasons, one promise, many questions, one choice.

O God, we pray for unity, give guidance from above. In our differences unite us in the circle of your love….

May this be our prayer and anthem at LCOB as we continue to grow in God’s love and service - DLH

EASTER SEASON CHANCEL CHOIR

Well, it is already time for Easter (April 5) and the Chancel Choir welcomes additional singers (especially men) to join us for this Holy Season. Rehearsals for the upcoming Easter Season will begin in March, with focus on Palm Sunday, Holy Week and Easter Sunday. Rehearsals are held each Thursday night at 7:30 in the choir room. Come join the fun and fellowship! The Chancel Choir is a great way for you to express your faith and share your talents with the congregation.

CHERUB CHOIR

The Cherub Choir will be singing MARCH 8

SAINT THERESE

Thanks to all our LCOB friends and family who attended the organ blessing and dedicatory concert last February 15, 2015 at St. Therese Catholic Church. It was an outstanding afternoon that in-cluded incensing of the new organ by Father Joe Vetter, concert by David Lee Heinzman and recep-tion in the Parish Hall.

MUSIC FELLOWSHIP DINNER

There will be NO music fellowship dinner in March due to Holy Week, but we will resume our fellow-ship Night on April 23, 2015. Remember, if you are in the Chancel Choir or Bell Choir, then bring your spouse and join us for Music Fellowship Din-ner, held the 4th Thursday of each month at the King Neptune.

We are all so excited about how much we are learning about our Christian faith at Little Chapel on the Boardwalk. Little Chapel sure is a great place to be on Sunday morning. Our Sunday school children are very busy learning

more about God and how God wants us to live. We all especially enjoyed our Valentines Celebration and ex-changing valentines. We have been learning about how much Jesus loves us and how we should love others even if they are different from us. We have also been learning to help others. We have been bringing in our piggy banks on the last Sunday of each month to feed Pricilla the pig. We know that the money we bring in helps people who are hungry. We are reading Bible sto-ries from the New Testament and learning all about mir-acles. Our Sunday school children enjoy singing Bible Songs, making crafts, learning the Lord’s Prayer and memorizing Bible verses. We plan to put what we learn in Sunday school into action by teaching others about Jesus and being kind to others. We would like to thank Janet Auvil and Delwood Herren for helping us with our Sunday school and Children’s church programs. Of course we want to thank all our regular Sunday school teachers for their hard work, love and dedication to our children at Little Chapel on the Boardwalk. Children’s Church is going very well and the children love the new flannel board curriculum and stories. We have been learning about the meaning of communion and memorizing the Apostle’s Creed. We recite a call to worship each Sunday and sing the hymns that are in the bulletin. The cherub Children’s choir has been practicing every Sunday morning at 9:15 a.m. and will sing on the 2nd Sunday of each month at the 10:30 service. Our chil-dren sure are talented and love singing praises to God. We hope to have a special surprise for you on Mother’s Day. We have two activities scheduled for our PKC children in March! One is on Sunday March 1st when we will go to the Cape Fear Museum on Market Street. We will meet at the museum at 1:30 pm after church. The ad-mission to the museum is free and everyone is invited to come. Please bring your parents, your grandparents, your friends and your smile to the museum. This should be a wonderful time for the children to get to know each other better as they learn through interactive play. It will be a great opportunity for fellowship with our church friends and families. Our first Parents’ Night Out is the second activity we have planned for P.K.C during the month of March. It will be

held on Friday March 13th from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. We will have a pizza dinner, a craft, songs, creative movement and play time . This is a time for the children to have fun and play together, while the parents enjoy some much needed time to relax. I hope to make Parent’s night out a regular event. Space is limited to 15 children so remember to sign up on the sign-up sheet in the narthex. I feel so blesses and I am so thankful to God for another day to teach our children about our Lord and savior Jesus Christ at Little Chapel on the Boardwalk. Thank you for all your love, help and support. Have a blessed March and a Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Please mark your calendars for Wednesday, March 18 at 6:00PM because y’all are invited to a “Southern Progressive Supper” (come and find out how this will happen!). In addition to other favorite southern dishes, we’ll be serving “chicken and pas-try”, which has been said to “sooth the soul” and is “good ole southern comfort at its very best”. While you enjoy your dinner, members of the Mis-sion Committee will be joining you, so that they can briefly explain the purpose of each of the many mission opportunities offered at Little Chapel. As the years go by, we discontinue serving some mis-sions, while adding new ones. We hope that this gathering will provide an understanding of all of our mission projects, and will give you insight as to where you wish to serve. The Mission Committee is always so thankful to you, The Little Chapel with the Big Heart, for your overwhelming generosity, commitment and faithful-ness to serving our neighbors, both here and around the world.

FOR THE WEEK OF:

WEDNESDAY NIGHT ON THE BOARDWALK

Wednesday, March 18 6:00PM

Meals of Love program is designed to benefit family members and visitors to the Wilmington Hospice Care Center. Many times these families are exhausted physically and mentally and preparing a meal is the last thing on their mind. So volunteers help support them by providing a meal in our family kitchen at the Care Center. The Little Chapel Mission Committee has decided to take care of these meals four times a year. Our first date to prepare a dinner meal for this year is March 9, 2015. There will be signup sheets in the narthex soon. We look forward to your helping with this wonderful mission opportunity.

FEBRUARY SESSION HIGHLIGHTS

All church staff, elders and deacons met for a

working retreat on January 17, 2015 and dis-cussed the current status of the church, re-viewed statistical trends for the past ten years for our church, and identified needs and initia-tives for the next 3 - 5 years.

On March 8, 2015, our pastor and the pastor of

the Crossnore Presbyterian Church will "swap" pulpits. Pastor Pat will preach at the Crossnore Church and the Rev. Kathy Campbell will preach at LCOB.

Our beach services will begin May 1, 2015 and

continue through October 25, 2015. We are en-couraged that this ministry continues to grow!

During Holy Week, March 30 - April 3, services

will be held at 12:00 Noon on Monday, Tues-day, Wednesday and Friday, and at 7:00 PM on Thursday, Maundy Thursday, with commun-ion.

The Missions Committee is sponsoring a joint

mini-mission trip with the Crossnore Church, April 30 - May 2, 2015 to Kernersville, NC.

Children attending Children's Church will be

given the opportunity to participate in com-munion on communion Sundays, conditional upon their parent's permission. Director of Children's ministry Maritsa Hartlove will be co-ordinating this initiative and instructing the chil-dren.

Confirmation classes begin on Sunday, February

22, 2015. Easter Egg Hunt and Puppet show will be held

on April 4, 2015 at 10:00 AM at the church. This event will be coordinated by the Christian Education Committee.

ONE GREAT HOUR OF SHARING

On Easter Sunday our church will participate in One Great Hour of Sharing. Your gift to OGHS enables the church to share God's love with our neighborhood-in-need around the world by provid-ing relief to those affected by natural disasters, pro-vide food to the hungry, and helping to empower the poor and oppressed. There are three programs which accomplish this task. They are the Presby-terian Disaster Assistance Program, the Presbyteri-an Hunger Program and the Self Development of People. One-half of the money collected will be given to One Great Hour of Sharing and the other half to Good Shepherd Ministries of Wilmington. The purpose of Good Shepherd Ministries of Wilming-ton is to plan, develop, and maintain an ecumenical and social ministry to meet the needs of the hungry, homeless, and jobless in the community. The Mission Committee appreciates your interest and support. Thank you!

Feed the Pig and share the love with those in need!

THANKS

TO ALL OF YOU!

All of you have been so nice in such a thoughtful way,

It’s hard to find a way to thank each one of you today…

But hopefully, this special card will show, at least in part,

The many warm and grateful thoughts this brings straight from the heart.

With many thanks, John, Kristie and Clay Horton

Dear Friends, Thank you, thank you for all your cards, calls, caring and prayers while I was sick recently. A month out of commission was a long time! I finally am feeling fine again, thank God. And I thank God for all of you, my dear church family. You mean so very much to me.

With love and gratitude, Susan Long

Dear Little Chapel Friends, Thanks so much for the calls, flowers, food and visits. I could not do without all of you. What a wonderful church. You all do so much. I am OK and my hospital stay was short.

Thanks so much, Freddye Ledford

I know that you’ve heard from me many times but we really can’t thank you enough for all the help you give us. Because of your donations many people have their needs met and they are very grateful.

Blessed Lenten days filled with graces and peace.

Prayers, Sister Mary Isaac

To our Friends at Little Chapel, I just wanted to take a quick moment to express my appreciation for you all being such wonderful hosts for our recent mini-conference. We are very thankful for your support as we encourage folks to do their advance care planning . It is my hope that we get to work together again.

Blessings, Jason Clamme

The Church Women United Day of Prayer Worship Service will be held

FRIDAY, MARCH 6, 2014 at

Grace United Methodist Church, 401 Grace Street

Registration is at 10:00AM followed by the worship service at 10:30AM.

World Day of Prayer is a worldwide ecumenical movement of women and men who come together to observe a common day of prayer on the first Fri-day in March each year. Throughout the day, we collectively pray all over the world, beginning with the first sunrise in the Pacific region and following the sun’s path around the globe. The worship service, prepared by the WDP Com-mittee of the Bahamas, calls us to consider Jesus’ words to the disciples after washing their feet: “Do you understand what I have done for you?” (John 13:12) What Jesus did is described as “radical love”, which comes from humility, compassion and com-mitment. God’s radical love is not static or self-centered; it reaches out and draws others in.

will be held: Friday, March 20

at Wesley Memorial UMC

1401 S. College Road from

10:00AM until Noon The study will be led by Marjorie Kunz.

“February is the month of Love.” That was the title of my article for the Newsletter that I had sent to Martha. I am hoping she did not get the Newsletter printed because even though I wrote about love there is so much more I want to say after hearing Ruling Elder Rada speak on love this last weekend in February.

It was refreshing to hear the real news about reli-gion and love from around the world. There is HOPE for the Church even though much is chang-ing. He gave wonderful facts of growth that is not reported by the press.

Hopefully those who took notes will share them with those of you who did not hear any of his "Talks". We will share them in Committee meet-ings.

We should be so very thankful that God has placed a man like Dr. Rada in a leadership role that will be His ambassador for spreading God's Love around the world. This man loves the Presbyterian Church, loves people of all races, loves people of different religions and is passionate about sharing God's Word.

Dr. Rada did share with us some of the changes. The basics of Christianity, the Bible will be the con-stant but interpretations may vary and church mem-bers will show God's love out in the communities and our daily lives. We will come to church to learn and to spread the love by "doing things" in our communities. We will teach by example.

Little Chapel is doing this now. We do it through Meals on Wheels, working with missions, working with outreach programs, working with Tileston, Scouts, Bible Studies, and so many other programs. A new program many of us hope to bring to your attention and choose as a Church wide project is Nourish North Carolina. The second Sunday in

March we will have Beth Hollis the director of NNC speak to us about the hunger of children in New Hanover County.

It is hard to believe how many children only get the meals provided during the week by our schools. The Backpack program was started by people who saw a need to feed children during the weekend. You are going to hear more about this program . To educate yourself on line go to www.NourishNC.org.

The PW Council will meet the first Sunday in March. It is my joy to announce the new leadership that will lead Presbyterian Women at Little Chapel after their installation in June. The new moderator is Dru Hoge and the vice moderator is Sherry Lovette along with Harriett Andrew, secretary and treasurer, Jean Northrop. What a strong team to lead the women of LCOB.

Ladies, be positive in your thoughts and deeds. On-ly have kind words for others. Women can change the world with love and prayer.

"For God so Loved the World that He gave us His only begotten Son"; "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you;"

In Love, Iris Davis

Little Chapel on the Boardwalk

We are breaking tradition! The Annual Easter Egg Hunt will be at the Little Chapel this year for Little Chapel children and all their many friends and family. Parents, you along with a bunny or two must accompany your younger children to help keep them within our hunting area.

Our talented puppeteers will have a performance beginning promptly at 10:00AM to kick off the fun! You may make a donation of small individually wrapped candy, or egg fillers, such as stickers (larger than choking size, please). There will be a container in the narthex for your goodies on Sun-day, March 8 and March 15. Stay a few minutes after worship March 29 and help stuff your dona-tions into Easter eggs in the fellowship hall. Sup-plies will be waiting. For the first time, our PYC will offer you coffee and hot chocolate for a mini fundraiser. Now, it will not be Starbucks, but guaranteed, it will be cheep! cheep! Plan to get yours, before the Puppet Show starts!

If it rains, we will hide eggs in the church.

The rooster is reminiscent of Peter's threefold deni-al of Jesus on the night of Jesus' trial (Matthew 26:34, NIV); thus; it may represent faithlessness in general, especially in the face of danger. Because of the rooster's early-morning call, it's also symbolic of watchfulness: "Therefore keep watch," said Jesus, illustrating the return of the Son of Man, "because you do not know when the owner of the house will come back — whether in the evening, or at mid-night, or when the rooster crows, or at dawn" (Mark 13:35, NIV).

Presbyterian Counseling Center

CENTERPOINT

Often clients come to a counseling session with a specific question. It might seem trivial: “where should I spend the holiday?” But it weighs on the individual’s heart. Perhaps it seems overwhelming for the person. Recently a client was wondering about just such a question. She was identifying alternatives. She was exploring possibilities. I listened. I was not sure myself what was best for her. Her mind was engaged. She was genuinely seeking to understand herself and her question from all angles. And then suddenly she looked up at me with a broad smile. “I’ve made my decision, haven’t I?” she stated. “Just by talking it through, I can hear myself saying what’s best for me.” With an expression of relief she asked, “Is that what counseling is all about … just talking it through?” It was my turn to smile gently because she had discovered something momentous. She recognized she has the capacity to search earnestly, honestly and courageously for truth. The process of counseling allows us to search for truth.
