People do not analyse every problem they meet. Sometimes they try to remember a solution from the last time they had a___16__ problem. They often accept the opinions or ideas of other people. Other times they begin to act without__17__ they try to find a solution by trial and error. However, when all of these methods___18__ the person with a problem has to start analysing. There are six___19__in analysing a problem.

__20__ the person must recognize that there is a problem. For example, Sam's bicycle is broken, and he cannot ride it to class as he usually does. Sam must __21__that there is a problem with his bicycle.

Next the person must __22__ the problem. Before Sam can repair his bicycle, he must know why it does not work. For example, he must __23__ the parts that are wrong.

  • 4

Now the person must look for __24__that will make the problem clearer and lead to___25__solutions. For example, suppose Sam __26__ that his bike does not work because there is something wrong with the brakes.___27__ he can look in his bicycle repair book and read about brakes, talk to his friends at the bike shop, or look at his brakes carefully.

After__28__the problem, the person should have several suggestions for a possible solution. Take Sam as an example___29__ his suggestions might be: tighten or loosen the brakes; buy new brakes and change the old ones.

In the end, one___30__seems to be the solution to the problem. Sometimes the__31__ idea comes quite __32__because the thinker suddenly sees something in a __33__way. Sam, for example, suddenly sees there is a piece of chewing gum stuck to a brake. He immediately hits on the solution to his problem: he must __34__the brake.

Finally the solution is___35__. Sam does it and finds his bicycle works perfectly. In short he has solved the problem.

Eightyearold Jesse Arbogast was playing in the sea late one evening in July 2001 when a 7foot bull shark attacked him and tore off his arm. Jesse's uncle jumped into the sea and dragged the boy to shore. The boy was not breathing. His aunt gave him mouthtomouth resuscitation () while his uncle rang the emergency services. Pretty soon, a helicopter arrived and flew the boy to hospital. It was a much quicker journey than the journey by road.

Jesse's uncle, Vance Folsenzier, ran back into the sea and found the shark that had attacked his nephew. He picked the shark up and threw it onto the beach. A coastguard shot the fish four times and although this did not kill it, the shark's jaws relaxed so that they could open them, and reach down into its stomach, and pull out the boy's arm.

  • 4

At the Baptist Hospital in Pensacola, Dr Ian Rogers spent eleven hours reattaching Jesse's arm. It was a complicated operation he said, but we were lucky. If the arm hadn't been recovered in time, we wouldn't have been able to do the operation at all. What I mean is that if they hadn't found the shark, we wouldn't have had a chance.

According to local park ranger Jack Tomosvic, shark attacks are not that common. Jesse was just unlucky he says, evening is the shark's feeding time. And Jesse was in an area without lifeguards. This would never have happened if he had been in an area where swimming is allowed.

When reporters asked Jesse's uncle how he had had the courage to fight a shark, he replied, I was mad and you do some strange things when you're mad.

New archaeological discoveries suggest that trade between Europe and Asia along the Silk Road probably began in some form many centuries earlier than once thought. The findings, coupled with a widening range of scientific and historical research, could add a fascinating new page to the epic of the Silk Road.

The latest and most surprising discovery is pieces of silk found in the hair of an Egyptian mummy from about 1 000 BC, long before regular traffic on the Silk Road and at least one thousand years before silk was previously thought to be used in Egypt. Other research may extend human activity along this route back even further, perhaps a million years to the migration of human ancestors into eastern Asia.

  • 5

The official origin of EastWest commerce along the road is usually placed in the late 2nd century BC when an agent of the Chinese Emperor Wudi returned from a dangerous secret mission () across the desert into the remote high country of Central Asia. The agent, Zhang Qian, travelled as far as Afghanistan and brought back knowledge of even more distant lands such as Persia, Syria and a place known as Lijien, perhaps Rome. Historians have called this one of the most important journeys in ancient times. His journey opened the way for what have been thought to be the first indirect contacts between the ancient world's two superpowers, China and Rome. Chinese silk, first traded to central Asian tribes for war horses and to the Parthians of old Persia in exchange for acrobats and ostrich eggs, was soon finding its way through a network of merchants to the luxury markets of Rome.

But the new discoveries show that Chinese silk was apparently present in the West long before the Han emperor started organized trade over the Silk Road. The research could change thinking about the early history of world trade and provide insights into the mystery of just how and when Europe and the Mediterranean lands first became aware of the glorious culture at the other end of Eurasia.

Michael Joseph Jackson was born on August 29, 1958. He was born in Gary, Indiana. He was the seventh child out of nine children in his family. Michael was often physically abused() by his father, beaten up and also verbally() abused. But Michael also owed his success to his fathers being strict.

Michael was always an entertainer. Even when he just joined school, he would perform in front of friends and classmates. Michael started his professional music career at the age of 11, as a member of The Jackson Five.

Hes wellknown for increasing the popularity of MTV through his music videos. Before this, music videos were made just to promote the albums. But Michaels videos managed to change that by making them an art and big business. Some of the music videos that are good examples of this fact are Beat It, Billie Jean, and Thriller. Through these works of his, the world got caught onto the idea of music videos and dedicated music video channels.

  • 4

Michael enthralled his fans and audiences with his style of singing, dressing, and his complex dance moves, especially the moonwalk. The moonwalk is something that people from every part of the globe love and try to imitate. People have also done mass moonwalks all around to show their love towards him.

Michael Jackson supported 39 charities. Through his work and various foundations, he raised and donated millions toward charity, much more than any other showman. He had great love for children, especially the poor ones, and he felt children were the next best thing after God.

Michael planed to start a 50concert tour in July 2009. Sadly, on 25th June, 2009, Michael passed away at home. Michael Jackson was a great performer, showman and entertainer, besides the good human and charitable person that he was. Its very unlikely that there will ever be another entertainer like Michael Jackson ever again.

President Barack Obama shouldn't be surprised if his approval rating among students has plummeted(). In a recent speech about US education, he called for extending the school days and the school year. The challenges of a new century demand more time in the classroom. Why more time? Because US students are falling behind students in other countries he said.

    More school

  • 4

US schools need to lengthen school days and the school year. If we intend to stay competitive with the rest of the world on test scores and in the job market, we need to add classroom hours and get rid of summer break almost entirely. As President Obama said, South Korean students spend more than a month longer in school and achieve better results than us.

The current twoterm school year and the school days that form it were developed based on an old system of agriculture. The long summer break allowed children to be home to help tend the fields. It is not necessary anymore. It may not be popular to cut summer break or extend school days, but that's the only way to improve US education and get back the American jobs lost to foreign countries.

  • 4

    Home Time

Adding school hours won't solve the problems with our school system. The USA is different from other countries. US families have full schedules, with participation in sports, community groups, and other interests. In places such as South Korea, where only several hours of a day aren't spent on school work, children don't have time to participate in many of those activities.

Giving kids time outside of school allows them to grow in other areas. That's just as important as learning fractions (). Fingers shouldn't be pointed at the school year for being too short, but at teachers and schools that don't challenge their students and just pass kids along to the next grade. We do need to hold ourselves accountable for an education system falling behind other countries, but we also need a solution that actually works.

  • 1 Star Student of the Week Li Yue has been awarded the title of Star Student of the Week for what she did for our class. On the hot afternoon of last Saturday, Li Yue went downtown and walked from one store to another, looking for the costumes we would wear in the singing contest. While the rest of us were enjoying our leisure time in cool and comfortable rooms, she spent the whole afternoon searching and selecting. Finally, she found the right clothes. Deeply moved by her efforts, we tried our best and won the first prize in the contest. Li Yue is always warmhearted and cares a lot about the class. Besides, she often devotes her spare time to helping others. She has set a good example for us. Therefore, she deserves the honor and we should learn from her.
