The force needed to split wood varies a lot, so when choosing a log splitter consider the following. It’s not all about price

but more about making the job as easy and quick as your budget will allow.

Vertical Log Splitters are usually used when you can lift the wood by hand and put it on a waist height table for splitting

into logs. To make big wood easier to handle and lift onto a table, it is often cut into rings. Some of the vertical models

have an adjustable table height that can also be removed so you can split long wood up to 110cm high. If it is a big

diameter, the 12-14-16-18-25 ton models can have a lifting arm to stand the log up.

Horizontal Log Splitters are mainly designed for what we call Billeting, IE you take a 100cm log and split it into long

Billets that you then season (dry).When the Billets are seasoned, you can cut them to the log length you want, hopefully

with one of our saw benches, or saws and conveyors. However, you can place a number of rings in a row on a horizontal

splitter and push the row through the knife. To do this, the rings must be cut parallel so they don’t fly off whilst splitting!

Horizontal log splitters can be specially ordered to take the log length the customer wants. For example, the A22OR

could be with a 2 or 2.5 meter log length. Again, the Billet can then be cut to log length on a saw. Using this method you

can also take large diameter timber and make it into Billets for a firewood processor. For example, if the firewood

processor takes a maximum diameter of 30cm timber, you can use something like a 30 Ton horizontal log splitter with 2

meter log length to make four 2 meter long Billets that can then be put through the 30cm firewood processor.

To help you decide what size log splitter you need, the following guide may help. It is based on splitting green, average /

good timber, the maximum length the splitter will take and with a single knife into two pieces. They will of course split

bigger diameter timber but this is a general guide that will make sure you are happy with your log splitter even if you

have bad timber:

22 ton = 60-80cm diameter & 70-250cm long 30 ton = 60-100cm diameter & 100-250cm long 40 ton = 60-120cm diameter & 100-300cm long 60 ton = 60-140cm diameter & 100-300cm long

If the timber is very bad with lots of knots and twists, or is seasoned, then you will need more power for the diameter. Especially if it is seasoned hard wood such as Oak, as this becomes very hard to split. When a vertical splitter is available with a 4 way knife, you should consider the following:

1) The 4 way is for splitting one log / piece of timber into four equal logs. 2) The timber should be nice and straight with no big knots 3) The timber should be straight grained and not all twisted. So if the 4 way knife is for a 12 ton machine, then the maximum diameter is 30cm. Information we need to offer advice on which log splitter is best for you: • Is it for commercial or private use? • What timber, i.e. hardwood or softwood? • What diameter? • What length do you usually cut your logs to? • Are you interested in electric, petrol engine, tractor powered by PTO or tractor powered by the tractor hydraulics? • If it is a tractor one, what model & horse power is it? • If it is electric do you have single phase or 3 phase electric at the place it is being used?

The Riko Rotomat Billet processor is a supper fast and efficient machine for cutting Billets into logs. The design ensures

simplicity of use whilst maintaining operator safety. The method of use is as simple as it is ingenious: there are 4 tubular

compartments built into a rotating drum, the billet lengths are simply dropped into each chamber as it rotates. As the drum

rotates each billet drops down a preset amount and is then held by a serrated grip arm. A Tungsten tipped circular saw

blade then cuts the Billet and the cut log is discharged into the area above the conveyor belt (Hydraulic slew from May

2015). As the drum continues to rotate the next Billet is cut and each Billet drops down further ready to be cut on the next

rotation. This process continues as the drum rotates and it is simply a case of placing another Billet in the tubular

RIKO UK LTD & ALPINE TRACTORS LTD TERMS AND CONDITIONS FOR THE SALE OF GOODS 1. Definitions: Buyer the person who buys or agrees to buy the goods from the Seller. Seller means Riko UK Ltd or Alpine Tractors Ltd. Conditions the terms & conditions of sale as set out in this document & any special terms & conditions agreed in writing by the Seller. Goods the articles which the Buyer agrees to buy from the Seller and listed on the sellers sales order, pro-forma invoice or invoice. Price the price for the Goods, excluding VAT and any carriage, packaging and insurance costs. 2. Conditions 2.1 Shall form the basis of the contract between the Seller and the Buyer in relation to the sale of Goods, to the exclusion of all other terms and including the Buyer’s standard conditions of purchase or any other conditions which the Buyer may purport to apply under any purchase order or confirmation of order or any other document. 2.2 All orders for Goods shall be deemed to be an offer by the Buyer to purchase Goods from the Seller pursuant to these Conditions. 2.3 Acceptance of delivery of the Goods shall be deemed to be conclusive evidence of the Buyer’s acceptance of these Conditions. 2.4 may not be varied except by the written agreement of the Seller. 2.5 Represent the whole of the agreement between the Seller and the Buyer. They supersede any other conditions previously issued. 3. Price. The Price shall be the price shown on the sales order or invoice at the time of payment in full or any order confirmation payment. unless otherwise stated on the invoice or sales order the price will be inclusive of VAT and delivery. 4. Payment and Interest Payment can be made by bank transfer, cheque, Debit or Credit card Credit card payments have a 2% surcharge applied

whilst Debit cards are free of surcharge. Cheques take 8 working days from being paid in (not receipt) and goods will not be dispatched before clearance.

4.1 Unless otherwise agreed in writing by the supplier the buyer is to make a 25% order confirmation payment to order the goods with the balance due cleared funds prior to delivery / collection. The goods referred to on the sales order or invoice will only be considered as ordered on receipt of the required order confirmation payment. The order confirmation payment is non-refundable but with written agreement from the seller may be transferable to an alternative order or sale. 4.2 The Seller reserves the right to charge interest on overdue invoices which shall accrue from the date when payment becomes due calculated on a daily basis until the date of payment at the rate of 10% per annum above the Bank of England base rate from time to time in force. Such interest shall accrue after as well as before any judgment. 4.3 The Buyer shall pay all accounts in full and not exercise any rights of set-off or counter-claim against invoices submitted by the Seller. 5. Goods The quantity and description of the Goods shall be as set out in the Seller’s quotation, pro-forma & final pro-forma. It is the buyer’s

responsibility to check these documents to ensure they are accurate / as agreed. When the purchaser makes final payment, they are accepting the goods are as ordered and described. The seller cannot accept any liability for any discrepancies after full payment.

5.1 With used goods, it is recommended the buyer inspects the goods in person or via a 3rd party to ascertain its suitability as Riko cannot accept liability for any discrepancies when buying a used machine unseen.

5.2 Any alterations or additions to the buyer’s original order and the Seller’s original quotation may be subject to further invoicing whether or not the Buyer has requested a written re-quotation. 6. Warranties. The Seller warrants that the Goods will at the time of delivery correspond to the description given by the Seller in the quotation /

invoice. The warranty provided by the seller is as per the warranty offered by the manufacture and at the sellers discretion covers the repair or replacement of the product. If warranty is parts only then replacement parts will be invoiced and sent for the customer or an engineer to fit. Unless agreed in writing faulty parts must be returned to the seller for analysis. If deemed faulty the parts costs, and if applicable any labour costs, will be reimbursed. If the fault cannot be repaired locally then at the seller’s discretion the product may have to be returned to the sellers premises, or there appointed agent for repair, in which case the cost of returning / redelivery of the product is not covered by warranty.

7. Delivery of the Goods. Delivery of the Goods shall be made to the Buyer’s designated delivery address. The Buyer shall make all arrangements

necessary to take delivery of the Goods on the day notified by the Seller for delivery. Should the buyer not be able to take delivery on the agreed date a further delivery will be subject to a further charge.

7.1 The Seller undertakes to use its reasonable endeavours to despatch the Goods on an agreed delivery date, but does not guarantee to do so. Time of delivery shall not be of the essence of the contract. 7.2 The Seller shall not be liable to the Buyer for any loss or damage whether arising directly or indirectly from the late delivery or short delivery of the Goods. If short delivery does take place, the Buyer undertakes not to reject the Goods but to accept the Goods delivered as part performance of the contract. 7.3 If the Buyer fails to take delivery of the Goods on the agreed delivery date or, if no specific delivery date has been agreed, when the Goods are ready for despatch, the Seller shall be entitled to store and insure the Goods and to charge the Buyer the reasonable costs of so doing. 8. Acceptance & return of the Goods. When the purchaser makes final payment, they are accepting the goods are as ordered and described.

The seller cannot accept any liability for any discrepancies after full payment. 8.1 The Buyer shall be deemed to have accepted the Goods 24 hours after delivery to the Buyer. 8.2 The Buyer shall carry out a thorough inspection of the Goods within 24 hours of delivery and shall give written notification to the Seller within 7 working days of delivery of the Goods of any defects which a reasonable examination would have revealed. 8.3 Where the Buyer has accepted, or has been deemed to have accepted, the Goods the Buyer shall not be entitled to reject Goods which are not in accordance with the contract. 8.4 Any costs associated with returning the goods to the seller, within the stipulated period above, shall be the sole responsibility of the buyer. 8.5 Any damage that occurs to the goods during return transport being returned shall be at the buyers liability and therefore chargeable to the buyer. 9. Title and risk. Risk shall pass on delivery of the Goods to the Buyer’s designated delivery address. 9.1 Notwithstanding the earlier passing of risk, title and full rights to access to the Goods shall remain with the Seller and shall not pass to the Buyer until the amount due under the invoice for them (including interest and costs) has been paid in full. 9.2 Until title passes the Buyer shall hold the Goods for the Seller, shall store or mark them so that they can at all times be identified as the property of the Seller and allow full rights to access for removal / collection of the goods. 9.3 The Seller may at any time before title passes and without any liability to the Buyer: 9.4 repossess and dismantle and use or sell all or any of the Goods and by doing so terminate the Buyer’s right to use, sell or otherwise deal in them; and 9.5 for that purpose (or determining what if any Goods are held by the Buyer and inspecting them) enter any premises of or occupied or being used by the Buyer. 9.6 The Seller may maintain an action for the price of any Goods notwithstanding that title in them has not passed to the Buyer. 10. Carriage of Goods. Unless agreed in writing by the seller Carriage will be chargeable on all sales dependent on weight of goods delivered and

distance travelled.
