Overview

Shoemaking industry represents a large proportion among light industries. At present,

in the whole world there are about 40 thousand various shoemaking enterprises and 10

million employees in shoemaking industry, and among shoe support industries. China is

the largest shoe manufacturer, followed by India and Brazil in the second and third

places, respectively.

With the rise of labor’s cost, digital design and manufacture has been on a large scale

applied in shoemaking industry, which is a typical intensive labor industry.

1. ZW3D’s application in shoemaking industry

1.1 Shoe designing

1.1.1 Sketch

Firstly, designers can import sketches into ZW3D. In the Sketch panel,

designers can adjust the size and transparency parameters of the sketches,

draw lines of the main model and create entity or surface accordingly.

1.1.2 Shoe last

Most of the time, the design is started with customer’s shoe lasts. In ZW3D,

shoe lasts can be imported and collected as shoe last library. Then designers

can create projection lines of shoe lasts with 2D sketches or 3D curves and

generate different upper body of shoes according to design requirements.

1.1.3 Blend and Wrap

In designing plastic shoes, a lot of complicated details need to be shown on

the shoe uppers. ZW3D can easily get these done with powerful functionalities

like Blend and Wrap. ZW3D can quickly distort simple 2D designs to get the

desired shapes. In the end, qualified shoe uppers can be designed with

different wrap functions. All these complex processes can be done with few

clicks in ZW3D.

1.1.4 Unfold

ZW3D provides Unfold function to quickly unfold leather or fabric uppers, piece

by piece and generate 2D lines for tailoring and blanking.

1.1.5 Render

As for customer interaction, it’s significant to provide vivid rendered images for

customers after finishing 3D models. With ZW3D’s embedded Keyshot

rendering module, designers can not only set colors, textures and maps but

also create lights and scenes. For more professional rendering, you can

change to Keyshot interface within ZW3D with no need to export other

intermediate formats.

1.2 Shoe Manufacturing

1.2.1 Mold

There are lots of plastics and other rubber materials in shoes, which must be

made with a mold. ZW3D professional version has a whole-process plastic

mold design module, covering versatile design requirements, like lead-in,

multi-cavity layouts, parting, inserting die standard parts and much more.

For parting, ZW3D provides two methods: by parting lines and by color region.

Choosing different methods according to product’s structure characteristics

makes you disassemble products more flexibly to get zones of cavity and core.

In creating parting surfaces, ZW3D has professional design tools. You can

generate parting surface of high quality by stretching, sweeping and expanding

the surface. For complex molds, you can use the abundant surface modeling

functions on the platform.

ZW3D offers not only standard mold base library for whole- process 3D mold

development but also a series of standard part library such as guide pillars,

screws, dowels, etc. Besides, in detailing structure design, ZW3D provides

integrated functions like Slider, Runner, Gate, flow channel, and others, which

greatly improve the efficiency of mold design. To meet different companies’

customized demands, ZW3D allows users to customize mold and standard

parts, expanding the capability boundary of software.

1.2.2 Machining Tactics

As a CAD/CAM all-in-one solution, ZW3D offers machining tactics from 2axis

to 5axis in machining of shoes molds. At present, there are 40 kinds of

machining tactics in ZW3D, including high speed precision milling, 3axis

QuickMill machining, which can quickly generate safe, efficient and fluent tool

path for computer programmers.

In shoes mold parts, the machining of some micromesh torque area must be

completed with 4,5axis. At present, ZW3D provides various machining tactics

like plane/streamline milling, drive line, guide surface milling and etc. In the

meanwhile, entity simulation tool can actually simulate the path of cutting and

analyze the processing residue of shoes mold parts. By simulation analysis,

ZW3D is able to detect the safety range of cutting tool in real time and avoid

the intervention and collision between cutting and rough, workbench or fixture,

to ensure the safety of machine operation.
