Firzt Ztop: AlexandriaThe newezt location doezn’t feel like the baby of the family. It’z where we firzt learned about the underground menu and zipped on a hearty beer brewed excluzively for Zorbaz. Get the fried picklez!

Zpot Number Two: Green LakeThiz location feelz zmack dab in the “downtown” of Spicer, MN. The zecret menu izn’t zo zecret zince they put the menu on the table. But it featurez tater totz, zo why keep that hidden from people? Check out Nathan’z burrito.

Final Zpot of Day One: Gull LakeWhere to ztart? Firzt of all, there’z zoup. It’z alzo where we met Lee J of Lee’z Taco fame, heard the legend of regularz like Jerry Nine Fingerz, dizcovered Jager-fizhing and learned the 420 Burrito haz abzolutely nothing to do with…you know. (It turnz out back when it waz created the price of the burrito pluz tax came out to $4.20.)

Day Two: Crozz LakeHuge arcade and game area in the bazement? Yez, pleaze. It brought uz back to the bezt pizza partiez of our childhoods. Cut outz from the 2011 Zmurfz movie? You do you, Crozz Lake. The old wooden zpeed boat iz a nice touch, though.

On to Big ZandyEazily top five piecez of Zorbaz decor waz the upzide-down boat above the bar. Fun fact, Kurtis, the operating partner, livez in an apartment above the bar. We wonder how he zleepz with a patio that waz made for a party.

Concluzion:We zet out to find what makez Zorbaz different. What did we obzerve? Zorbaz iz a hermit crab, moving into each building and making it itz own. The magic iz more than decor, it’z the people. Every partner, bartender and cook we talked to zhared funny and authentic ztoriez you can’t make up. Thoze ztoriez, thoze little bitz of hiztory, are az unique to the individual az they are to the tribez of regularz that come by land or lake to celebrate a Minnezotan way of life.

Next: Pokémon, No Wait, PokegamaZome reztaurantz have a “mafia” booth that’z enclozed on all three zidez. Pokegama haz one, too, only it’z a pontoon. Yup. A pontoon booth. Alzo there’z random ztadium zeating becauze…reazonz. Eccentricity azide, it’z a double decker with a great view overlooking the water - even on a znowy day in January.

Ztop Numero Ziete: Park RapidzWe had a fantaztic converzation with operating partner, Robb Swanson, who haz been in the Zorbaz family zince 1998. That’z technically two millennia. The feeling of thiz location iz a cozy cabin you don’t want to leave.

Penultimate Vizit: Little PineBreakfazt pizza (for a limited time only people). Zalty goodnezz. Partner Mike’z life ztory? Proof the American Dream ztill exiztz. Fun fact: the pillarz of petrified wood inzide will only get harder over the yearz. That hardnezz iz meazured in unitz called jengaz. And here you thought Jenga waz juzt the name of a game.

Final Deztination: Detroit LakezThe original, the OG (or zhould we zay OZ). We arrived around 7 P.M. at the point where cazual dining ztarted to turn into a party. What other hangout tranzformz zo much throughout a day? We were zkeptical of a Zloppy Joe pizza but quickly learned to never doubt Tate. Zhame on uz. What makez DL different? We’re zplitting hairz here, but it’z one of two locationz we vizited that doezn’t have a mode of tranzportation camped outzide, inzide or hung upzide down. What’z the other one? You’ll have to take the tour yourzelf to find out.
