How to Plant and Look After Musangu

Make your nursery in October. The nursery must be above ground to prevent chickens or livelstock from eating the seedlinds. Fill

plastics with rich top soil.

Before sowing rub one end of best seeds ona stone, unless this has already been done by your extension provider. Sow in early November and water daily.

1 hectare needs 100 seedlings. Sow 125 tobe sure of enough. Nursery size is about1m x 1m.

Seedling are ready to plantin 5 weeks. Don’t delay orroots will twist up.

Dig all holes inside the crop row (not maize) to the same depth of plastic. Spacing in the field is 10mx 10m.

Stake seedlings to mark them. Put mulch and protect from goats or wildlife with thorns if necessary for first 2 years.

If some seedlings die, fill any gaps in next rainy season so you havea full stand of 100 plants per hectare. Think of the future. Fertilizer isgetting more and more expensive.

Carefully cut plastic with knife with one cut from bottom full width along one side to top of plastic. Don’t disturb soil round roots or expose roots to sunlight.
