This shawl is worked from the bottom tip to top. It's an open, airy
shawl. The sample shown was worked in a worsted weight yarn,
but any weight can be used. Just choose a needle size that will
produce the desired effect. The sample shown was blocked to
55" x 23".
Materials
Worsted weight yarn, approximately 330 yards
Size 8 (5mm) circulars
Tapestry needle
Abbreviations
CO - cast on
Sts - stitches
K - knit
P - purl
YO - yarn over
RS - right side
WS - wrong side
Rep - repeat
SSK - slip next 2 sts knitwise, one at a time, insert left needle into front of slipped sts, knit together
K2tog - knit 2 together
Instructions
Note: if you prefer a cleaner edge, slip the 1st st of every row.
CO 4 sts, knit two rows.
Set up
Row 1: K2, YO, K2
Row 2 (RS): K2, YO, knit to end.
ZIG ZAG SHAWL
Row 3 (WS): K2, YO, P to last 2 sts, knit.
Rep rows 2 & 3 until 15 sts on needle.

Row 1: K2, YO, K5, YO, SSK, knit to end.
Row 2 and all even rows: K2, YO, purl to last 2 sts, knit.
Row 3 (zig): K2, YO, K5, (YO, SSK) to last 6 sts, knit.
Rep row 3 for a total of 5 SSK rows.
Row 11 (zag): K2, YO, K4, (K2tog, YO) to last 7 sts, knit.
Rep row 11 for a total of 5 K2tog rows.
Rep zig and zag sequences until shawl is almost the length desired,
ending with a wrong side row.
Finishing
Row 1: K2, YO, knit to end.
Row 2: K2, YO, P to last 2 sts, knit.
Row 3: rep row 1.
Row 4: rep row 2.
Row 5: K2, YO, (K2tog, YO) to last 2 sts, knit.
Row 6: knit
BO loosely. Weave in ends and block.
