popular as city cars because of their compactness, affordable prices and good
mileages. The Tata Motors Limited (TML) has launched the Zest on 12th August 2014
which has become a hit in India in a short time.
Variants and prices
The Tata Zest comes in 5 petrol and 7 diesel variants including the two Anniversary
edition variants launched in 2015. The variants XMA and XTA have AMT gear boxes.
The petrol variants are the Anniversary Edition, the XE, the XM, the XMS and the XT
priced Rupees 4.90 to 6.34 lakh. The diesel variants are the XE, the XM, the XMS, the
Anniversary Edition, the XMA, the XT and the XTA priced Rupees 5.94 to 8.13 lakh.

Exteriors
The Zest built on the Vista platform has a stylish body. The stretched projector type
headlamps for top variants, chrome strips bordering the plastic grille, an integrated body
coloured bumper with running daylight LED lamps and round fog lamps give premier
looks to the car. The rear has wrap-around LED tail lights with chrome surrounds and
excessive chrome on the boot lid. Anniversary Editions have daytime LED lamps.
Comfortable cabins
The comfortable cabins of the Zest has basic features like an engine immobiliser, power
steering with tilt column, fabric seats, frontal power windows and internally adjustable
body coloured ORVMs with turn indicators. Top variants have 2 air bags, ABS, EBD, an
automatic AC, power windows, electric body coloured ORVMs with turn indicators,
reverse parking sensors and a 2 Din music system with touch screen controls and
Bluetooth connectivity.
Engines
The petrol variants of the Zest have 1.2L, 89 bhp engines with economy, city and sports
drive modes. In the sports mode engines give maximum torque. The diesel versions
have 1248 cc, 89 bhp engines with normal and sports drive modes with normal as
default mode. The mileages are 17.6 kmpl for the petrol and 23.0 kmpl for the diesel
variants.
Ride quality
The ride quality and the handling are excellent for the Zest. The suspensions,
independent McPherson struts at the front and the semi independent torsion beams at
the rear aided by a large ground clearance help in negotiating bumps and pot holes
smoothly.
