    IntroductionIn the context of the Cholera NationalResponse Plan of the c luste rs in Haiti, TheEmergency Bureau of Haiti Participativeinitiate d a National Caravan c alled : Karava nZew o-Kolera , a c ollec tive p rojec t ow ned andoperated by several humanitarian partnerswith the objective to promote massivelycho lera prevent i ve measures , combatdiscriminative behavior. After several otheractivities held, the Official passage of the Zero-Cholera Ca rava n has be en sc hed uledand effec tively rea lized from 17 19 Dec em berwith the cont ribution of the Follow ing partners:HP, M ENFP, MSPP, IFRC, Brazilian ba tta lion/ MINUSTAH, DIGICEL, UNICEF & PLASTICART.

    The Caravan pub lic eve nt-da y sta rted Dec em ber 19 08:00am w ith three (3) convo ys of mo b iliza tion andsensitiza tion from wraf o f c ite-soleil, Ca rrefour aviation a nd Route-9 to rea c h the Plac e fierte w ith the Spec ia l

    Music composed for the Zero-Cholera Caravan. Among many activities of sensitization and cholerapreve ntion, the most ca tc hing wa s: (1) The c om petition o f Poe ms aga inst cholera betw een prima ry-schoo lspup ils, (2) The Red -Ink Votes where c hild ren a nd adults vo ted fo r Zero-Cholera O b jec tives.Sensitiza tion and Educ ation rea ched 97 sc hoo ls on Dec em ber 17, and on Dec em ber 19 ap p roxima tely 23,000families. 1,350 families rec eived hyg iene kits and ORS. T-shirts of sensitiza tion were e ither d istributed for lac ta tingwomen.

    Passage of the 3 convoysThe C arava n p ubl ic event -d a y sta rtedDecember 19 at 08:00am with three (3)c onvoys of m ob iliza tion and sensitiza tion. Eachconvoy moves slowly, headed by a mobile-sound hosted by an a nimator with me ssages ofga thering a nd plays the Studio-rec ordedtheme song of the Zero-cholera C arava n .The first c onvo y moved from Ca rra four aviat ion,passing by Go na ives bus sta tion, the n reac hesBeleco u, Bac k of Hasc o, and then the Ma rketPlac e o f Cit-Soleil to e nd on Plac e Fiert .

    The sec ond c onvoy m oved from in the zoneFougy of the plaine of Cul-de-sac, passed byRoute-9 to reach the populations of Martial,Duvivier and then reaches Bois-Neuf, Projet-Drou illard a nd rea c hes Plac e Fiert .The third convoy sta rted in wra f-of-c ite-soleil,mo ved slow ly through the zone s of Soleil to rea hthe Plac e-fierte.During a ll the itinera ry of the Ca ravan, as the p op ulation w as aw are tw o d ays in advanc e, we c ould see thepop ula tion, the persons in Tap-tap , on mo torcyc les and on fo ot rea c ting positively to the c a lls and sensitiza tionof the c onvo ys, danc ing a nd interac ting with the song me ssages. In sp ite o f tensions tha t rose in the eve o fSunda y in the zones of the 2nd c onvoy itinerary, the po pulation we lcom ed normally the c onvoy pa ssage .

    Red-Inks Votes against cholera

    Voting w ith the thumb in the ink-pa d c onstituted a test of w illingto a dop t a c hang e in be havior and to ac tively fight for Zero-cholera o b jec tives. The Red -Ink Voting a ga inst c holera ha sbe en treme ndously ac c ep ted by the whole co mmunity, thoseof a ll age s. They e xpressed anger ag a inst c holera a nd a willtha t the ep idem ic sprea d fa lls to zero.Mrs. Brunet te ELIAS, Direc to r of Institut ion Ed uc a tionChretienne one of the sc hoo ls pa rtic ipa ting in the eve nt, tookto microphone to express activeness with the population,

    saying that they can't bea r it any more, too ma ny deaths, wevote to protect ourselves and our children, we vote to beac tive a ga inst c holera, we vote to reac h the Zero-cholera inour schools.

    disc rimination and tec hniques of prepa ration of Serum-LakayA Med ic a l Tea m o f HP hosted a p ub lic t ra ining o n choleraepidemic in which they explained all the possible ways ofinfection and the Preventive measures against cholera,and the prompt behavior in case of a suspected case.

    Emphasis was either put on the need for solidarity andnon-discriminatory behavior toward those that needurgent assistanc e in the event. They e ither p rac ticedHand-washing tec hniques.One o f the young g irls that p a rtic ipate d in the ha nd-washing simulations admitted being a formercholera pa tient; she said that she w ouldn't be infec ted ifshe ha d such knowled ge .

    he Poem-competit ion between primary-schools pupi lsfoc used on the c ho lera situation in Ha iti, espec ially in Cit-soleiland ha d to p rom ote the p revention be st prac tic es. Thecompetitors' win has been subject to a pre-selection in 10

    proposed sc hools of the 360 schools of C it-Soleil. The pa rticipa tingschools selec ted the best texts to rep resent the sc hools in the Event-Day, and com pete befo re a Jury to w in the 3 ma in Prizes.

    The selecte d p a rtic ipa nts c om pe ted before a Jury comp osed of 1representative of the Caravan committee, 1 representative of theBPU/ HP Educ a tion sec tion and the MENFP Chief Inspec tor for Cit-Soleil.     Distribution of Familial Hygiene Kits and ORS to 1,350 families

    and ORS wa s ma de in two points to the be nefit of o ne tho usand threehund red and ten (1,350) vulnerab le fa milies. 1.250 Tickets were p rev iouslydistributed to the identified most vulnerab le fam ilies hea ded by wo men w iththe cooperation of the Minustah Brazilian battalion and the communitylea ders. The kits sounded to b e inde ed va luab le to the b ene fic ia ries whe nthey und erstoo d their role in the prevention.

    Brazilian ba tta lion of MINUSTAH provided an activeassistance in security planning, support to ticketsdistribution through the community leaders andtransport of the stocks to the Place Fierte andwa rehousing for the day prec ed ing the e vent. TheBrazilian Bata illon prov ided o ne Mob ile-sound for the 3rdc onvo y, milita ry troo p s escorts for each one of the threec onvoys to a nd from the Place Fierte, a nd a strongsec urity o f the Places of Event includ ing d istribution sites.

    CONCLUSION

    All the stakeholders think that the Caravan passage inCit -soleil is a suc cess. The results of the Eva luationwo rkshop on the Ca ravan Official passage in Cite-Soleilwill be broa dc asted Thursday Dec em ber 23 in p ressconference that will be held in the BPU/HP conferenceroo m. Cong ra tulations to a ll the p artners tha t cont ributedto this offic ial launc hing in Cite-soleil. The next c om munethat the Zero-Cholera caravan will reach is Delmas,targeting the low -part of m ost p op ula ted a rea s. Thecaravan will be again reinforced and is still opened tomore humanitarian and sponsors, while the current willmeet to discuss their contributions to the next caravan
