A ChronologyBy
Living Lamma April 2011
In 1995, Government plans for the reclamation of Yung Shue Wan were opposed by the community. This is
what the government did:
These were the plans put forward by residents in 1995:
In 2003, Government plans for the phase 2 reclamation of Yung Shue Wan were rejected by the community.
This is what the government proposed:
These were the plans put forward by residents in 2003:
In 2009, government posted plans for a new cycle park. The design, a concrete platform with type 2 railings, was proposed
for the last remaining bit of unspoilt coastline in the bay.
Since 2009, Living Lamma has been lobbying government for better design and environmental
improvement. These was our alternative design for the cycle park, to transform a derelict part of the harbour:
We have recently found out that government is once again intending to go ahead with the phase 2 reclamation of Yung
Shue Wan harbour. Here are the plans:
This plan will kill Yung Shue WanEven if businesses are able to survive the two year construction period, waterfront properties will no longer be able to offer visitors harbourfront seating.
Instead, there will be a 4.5 metre emergency vehicle access that, according to the plan, will go over the fishermen’s den and existing restaurant space.
We need better design • Yung Shue Wan’s harbour is too important to be designed by
engineers• We need sensitive design that retains the bay’s rural and
natural character • Planning Department promises this in its statement of
planning principles for the islands• CEDD does not deliver on this promise, but instead draws
straight lines across the harbour where concrete must be poured
• Despite requests for information, these plans are not shared with the community until after the consultation period has closed.
