aspects using OFES results
Introduction
• OFES (OGCM for the Earth Simulator)– Project of Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science
and Technology (JAMSTEC)– Consider the limitation of high-resolution
modeling effort– Share the invaluable output among physical,
geochemical and ecosystem research
Model description
• Modular Ocean Model version 3 (MOM3) developed at GFDL/NOAA
• 3D primitive eq. in spherical coordinates under Boussinesq and hydrostatic approximation
• 75°S to 75°N, 54 vertical level, etopo2• K-profile parameterization(Large et al. 1994)• CFC- concerned
Model runs and outputs
• 50-year climatological runs applied NCEP/NCAR reanalysis mean from 1950-1998.
• After spin-up, the model is driven by daily mean wind stresses obtain from NCEP/NCAR reanalysis for a period from 1950-2008.
Analyses of physical aspects using OFES result
Zonally coherent zonal current structures
Frontal structure in the Kuroshio/Oyashio Extension
Decadal variations in North Pacific Ocean
Dynamics of recirculation gyre in the Kuroshio extension region
Responses of surfacecurrents to the winds near Hawaiian
islands.
Decadal variations in SSH in the South Pacific Ocean
Heat budget in the upper mixed-layer in the southeastern Indian Ocean.
Effects of eddy variability on the circulation in the northwestern Atlantic Ocean
Structure of cyclonic eddy in the Antarctic Divergence off Adelie Coast
Deep mixed-layer depth in formation regions of subantarctic mode water in the southern ocean
Simulated CFC-11 distributionin the Weddell Sea
