1 Yuba Sutter Valley Quilt Guild www.valleyquiltguild.com April 2012 I do not know about the rest of you, but I am anx- ious about the Easter bunny--always the kid!! I sent Easter baskets to my son and his fiancee earlier this week. The woman at the post office assured me that it does not matter how old the children are-- it's a "mother thing." And, I hate to bring this up, but I hope that all of you got your taxes taken care of. I contemplated wearing "mourning clothes" to my appoint- ment--LOL. Next week, I am going to Playa del Carmen for a few days--fly out on Friday and back in on Tuesday. Playa del Carmen is a re- sort area that is south of Cancun. Ernest and Ellie want to look this over as a possible wedding venue, and they asked if I would like to come along--Ellie's mother is also coming. This will be the first time that I will use my passport and it has been renewed-- never too late, I guess. Get the tequila shots ready --whee!!!!!!! Don't forget--this month's general meeting (April 25th) will start at 6:30. With an earlier start, perhaps we will not have the "rushed" feeling to- ward the end of the meet- ing. Have a great April, and try not to eat all of your Easter basket candy in one sitting. Be safe! Gladys Greetings from Gladys Community Service Ladies, we had 19 quilts turned in for the March 29th meeting. Thank you. Our stash is growing for the give- away in June. Dee Jagerhorn with the coop group, Millie Berryhill, Beryl Burtis, Cooky Amarel, Judy Marti- nez for the Thursday Stitch- ers, Waneta Ford, and Rae Brougher turned in quilts. Evelyn Nolan turned in two shriner bags. We ap- preciate the time and work you put into these quilts and they will be do- nated to agencies in our area. Let Gladys or someone on the present team know if you would like to do Community Service. Greetings from Gladys

Community Service

Ladies, we had 19 quilts turned in for the March 29th meeting. Thank you. Our stash is growing for the give-away in June. Dee Jagerhorn with the coop group, Millie Berryhill, Beryl Burtis, Cooky Amarel, Judy Marti-nez for the Thursday Stitch-ers, Waneta Ford, and Rae Brougher turned in quilts.

Evelyn Nolan turned in two shriner bags. We ap-preciate the time and work you put into these quilts and they will be do-nated to agencies in our area.

Please consider working on the Community Ser-vice team. Community Service will need three or

four people to work on this worthwhile team. A new team will be needed soon. Let Gladys or someone on the present team know if you would like to do Community Service.

I would like to thank Lisa Lundin and June Muncy for their leadership at the

Community Service booth at the quilt show. Many other people helped make blocks which will be made into quilts for fu-ture giveaways. Lisa and June have donated a lot of their time and work to Community Service. Muriel Van Middlesworth

APRIL FAT CHANCE THEME: IT'S RAINING CATS & DOGS

April Showers brings May flowers but this month IT'S RAINING CATS & DOGS. Use your imagination; do you have a FAT QUAR-TER with CATS or

DOGS? Anything pertaining to the out of doors would be fine. I won't turn anything away. BRING YOUR FAT QUARTER or SEVERAL FOR A CHANCE TO WIN. One ticket for each fat quarter to be in the drawing. You might be the lucky winner.

Our lucky winner of Plaids, plaids, plaids was RAE BROUGHER. Her fabrics were in a wonderful container, compliments of Sunsweet Gift Outlet. Rae is a new member to our guild.

Programs and Speakers

Well, now that the quilt

show if over for the year, we

can all start working on

those new ideas we’ve gotten

or on some of the projects

we’ve acquired from the

great quilt show vendors. A

big thank you goes out to

Cathy and her wonderful

team for the hard work that

goes into producing the an-

nual show.

This month’s speaker will be

Nancy Lee Chong, owner of

Pacific Rim Quilt Company.

Nancy specializes in two fab-

ric appliqué quilts and will be

teaching “stress-free”

needle turn hand appliqué

techniques in a workshop

the next day. I have a

couple of spots open for

the class, so call me if you

are interested Check out

Nancy’s website at:

http://prqc.com/.

Our May speaker will be

our very own Cathy Ev-

ans, owner of Quilts by

Cathy. Cathy has profes-

sionally quilted over 700

quilts and has many tips

of the trade to help use

prepare our tops and

backs before sending our

quilts out to be quilted.

Our June 27 program will

be Jenny Lyon from

Granite Bay presenting

her lecture “Quilting is a

Contact Sport”. Jenny

will return on Saturday,

June 30 to teach

“Introduction to Fearless

Free Motion Quilting”.

Check out Jenny’s website

at

www.QuiltSkipper.com.

Jenny attended our show

this year and many of our

quilts appear on her web

page. I even found one

of my own there!!!
