“The righteous cry out, and the LORD hears them; he delivers them from all

their troubles” Psalm 34:17

Dear Ward Parkway Presbyterian Friends,

The images described in our newspapers and seen on our televisions screens have been appalling. We have witnessed people dying at the hands

of terrorists, families being driven from their homes and living in refugee camps, and churches being burned and bombed. Many of the victims are Christians being persecuted for their faith.

On the insert inside this newsletter, you will see a letter from Dr. Mary

Mikhael of the National Evangelical Synod of Syria and Lebanon. In this letter, she gives us a sense of what is happening to Christians in Syria right

now. Please take the time to read and pray your way through Dr. Mikhael’s letter.

We are part of the global church, and “if one part suffers, every part suffers

with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it.” (1 Corinthians 12:26)

The suffering of our brothers and sisters in Christ is of great concern to all of us. We wonder what we can do to help.

I ask that you not shield yourself from the bad news, but to faithfully

pray for God’s intervention in the lives of these people and these nations. God invites us to pray with persistence and in faith. This is our privilege and responsibility. God is able to do so much more than we can ever ask

or imagine.

Yours in Christ’s love,

Pastor Connie

Heartland Summer Camp

January Session Notes

The children are getting excited as we anticipate the arrival of spring! The warmer weather will be a welcome addition to our preschool days, as the children love playing outside! The embryology

project will begin on March 1st and the children always love watching the eggs hatch into baby chicks. Our spring Culver’s Night will be on

Thursday, March 26th. This is always a fun event for the families of Ward Parkway Presbyterian

Church and Preschool to enjoy some fellowship together. During our March chapel services we will

discuss the meaning of Palm Sunday. Preschool enrollment happened at the beginning of the

February and we have a few openings in each age group. If you know anyone looking for a wonderful

preschool program, please pass along this infor-mation. Thank you for your continued prayers for our entire staff and all of the families that make up

Ward Parkway Preschool. Kim & Leslie

It’s time to register your children for camp. Day camps are available for children grades K-6 and

overnight camps for children grades 2-12. As we have done in the past, the church will pay ½ of camp cost

and we will apply for scholarships for the reminder. We have been fortunate to receive

scholarships for the past few years and we are hopeful that they will be available for 2015.

Brochures are in the narthex. Questions? Contact Sean Stoy or Pastor Connie.

Treasurer’s Report: Tom Stewart reported on the results of the 2015 Stewardship Campaign and Session discussed the 2015 budget. Pastor’s Report: On January 25, new officers will be ordained and

installed. Warren Bell and Pat Wiederaenders will be installed as Deacons and Bob Liepsner and Steve Guthrie

will be installed as Ruling Elders. The session expressed gratitude to Jim Durig and Janet North as they finish their terms as Ruling Elder and Deacon, respectively.

Babysitter – We have hired preschool mom, Beth Moylan, to keep our nursery on

Tuesday mornings. Doris Cranfill died on Tuesday, January 13. Connie

conducted her funeral service at Park Lawn Cemetery on Saturday, January 17.

Our accountant, Ruth Myers —Melching is retiring, getting married and relocating to Washington state. Connie will be out of town February 11 – 15 and

Craig Babb will fill the pulpit on February 15. Council Reports: Christian Education: Sean Stoy. Sean reported that the committee has restructured the Sunday evening program so that children have large group time and also small group time with their age group. Operations: Bob Liepsner. Bob asked members to report to him needed repairs both in the building and on the property. Worship – Diana Justus. There will be a service of worship the evening of Ash Wednesday and Maundy Thursday. Personnel –Steve Nelson. Steve reported that annual staff reviews have been completed.
