GRASP-Rochester

Academic Summer Program...a correspondence program designed to reinforce

math and reading skills learned during the school

year just completed!

GRASP is a workbook program designed for students who have completed

grades K-8 to keep their skills current over the summer months.

Students complete nine lessons in math, reading, or both over the

summer. Each lesson takes about one hour to complete. They mail answer

sheets each week to Community Education where they are corrected and

returned to students.

Students successfully completing the program receiver a certificate and amedal.

Sample workbooks and content areas are on display in the

Northrop Education Center Main Office. Call Community Education with any

questions328-4000.GRASP has been used by several large school districts in Minnesota.

Testimonials from parents of students enrolled in GRASP: Great review and practice! It will give her a head start in 3rd grade.

Micro Soccer (Age 5/(Gr. K)

Micro Soccer is three-a-side soccer. Micro Soccer and its practices have been developed to provide asimple formula that guarantees fun, skill development, and a fundamental knowledge of soccer in such a

way that a child of ve or six years of age can understand. This program is for students entering kin-dergarten or rst grade in fall 2011. Please indicate the grade the child will be entering during the

Fall 2011 school year. Practice sessions will be held for 45 minutes on Tuesdays for kindergarteners

and Thursdays for the rst graders, with 36-minute games on Saturdays for session 1 and 2. There willbe no practices or games the week of July 3-9. For session 3, practice sessions will be held for 45minutes on Tuesdays and 36-minute games on Thursdays. The $50 participation fee will include a t-shirt

and a ball. Indicate t-shirt size on the registration form--choose youth size small, medium, large, or extralarge. A short mandatory parent information meeting including a video and equipment pick-up will

be held at Mayo High School cafeteria on June 6 at 6:30 p.m. for parents of sessions 1 and 2. A

Diving 101 

Students will learn about the sport of springboard diving. Beginners will be taught the basics of com-petitive diving and safety while more advanced divers will improve on the skills they already have andlearn new dives when ready. Kick Line Camp

Kick Line Dancers WANTED! Community Education is excited to offer four days dedicated to learningkick line maneuvers. You will learn the basic kicks, leaps, and turns that will lay the groundwork for youto take part in a type of dance that will have you combining jazz, hip hop, and ballet moves. No experi-

Skyhawks Snag Golf (Ages 5-8)

Skyhawks Golf focuses on building the condenceof young athletes through proper technique and re-ning the essential skills of the game. Golf is a chal-lenging and lifelong sport, so young athletes needproper focus on the fundamentals of form, swing-ing, putting, and body positioning. To assist in this

training, Skyhawks has adopted the SNAG (StartingNew At Golf) system to its curriculum. Each two-week session will have nine teams of students. Youth have the opportunity to developleadership and team building skills. SOS challenges youth to go beyond their perceived boundaries to work withothers to solve problems and to experience success.

Registration: The fully completed SOS Registration Form with payment must be returned by April 29, 2011. Space is limited toninety participants each session. On May 2, 2011, participants may register for an additional session if space is available.

Tuition: Tuition of $199 is charged for each two-week session. Refunds minus a $10 processing fee will be given through April 29,2011. If a youth wishes to drop after that date, refunds will only be given if the spot can be filled.

Attendance: In order to ensure a successful SOS experience, youthmust attend each day of the session. The SOS program office

 (328-4051) must be notified by 8:00 a.m. if a youth is ill or will be absent. This handbook will be available online and at the SOSlocation. In order for the Summer of Service experience to be successful for all youth, those unwilling to comply and/or are disrup-tive to their team will be asked to withdraw. If a youth is asked to withdraw, tuition will not be refunded since program costs havealready been incurred.

Transportation: Rochester School Bus will transport youth to and from service sites Monday through Friday. Transportation is not provided to and from home.

Lunch and Food: A lunch will be provided Monday through Thursday and some Fridays. Parents will be updated by emailon lunch plans. In addition, they may want to bring a snack and water bottle each day.

Medication: Please note that the SOS Program does not allow youth to carry over-the-counter medication or prescription medica-

tion nor allow SOS staff to administer medication to youth. The only exceptions are epi-pens and inhalers. Youth meeting theseexceptions must contact the Community Education office at 328-4051 to make arrangements.

Registration Information and Policies

Registration Information: Registration begins upon receipt of this brochure. Space is limited and classes ll quickly; we encourage promptregistration. Additional times may be set up if classes ll; this determination is usually made two weeks in advance. Please call our ofce ifyou have questions on openings at 328-4000.

Confrmation: Community Education does not send out conrmations. Please mark your calendars. You will only be notied if a class is

changed or cancelled.

Class Cancellation Policy Prior to Start Date: Class cancellation must be made a minimum of one week prior to the class starting date fora full cash refund (unless otherwise noted in the description).

If you cancel with less than a week notice, prior to the rst class, you will be issued a Community Education credit on account, minus $5 pro-cessing fee and any costs incurred (including supplies, food, and salaries). In the event a Community Education class must be cancelled dueto inclement weather or other unavoidable circumstances, every effort will be made to reschedule. However, there may be instances when itwill not be possible to reschedule the class or make a restitution of funds.

Class Withdrawal Policy After Start Date: You may withdraw from classes of three sessions or more after attending the rst session. Youmust notify the Enrichment Ofce, 328-4000, of your intent to withdraw prior to the second class. You will be issued a prorated cash/creditrefund minus a $5 processing fee and any costs incurred.

Transportation: Parents are responsible for their student’s transportation unless noted otherwise. When picking up your student from class,please be prompt, as additional supervision is not provided after class.

Scholarships: A limited number of scholarships are available for selected classes. Please call 328-4000 to request additional information.Scholarships are funded in part by the following: 21st Century Community Learning Center Grant, Rochester Public School Foundation –Chance Fund and the Rochester Area Foundation Donor Advised Fund. We thank these organizations for their support to the students in ourcommunity.
