A touch of history…

Originally built in 1896, this

palace is the former residence of

French imperial Prince Roland

Bonaparte.

Since 2009, the most historic

areas of the former Palais Iéna

are listed with the French

institution Monuments

Historiques, an initiative

undertaken by the Shangri-La

group.

Today, the iconic building once

again welcomes Parisians and

world travelers within its walls,

114 years after the prince first

opened the doors of his

residential palace to Parisian

society.

1896…

The rediscovered history of the

building and its cultural significance

as the home of one of France’s most

notable aristocratic families is at the

core of this flagship hotel.

It all began in May 1891, when

Prince Roland Bonaparte bought

nearly 3,000 square metres (33,000

square feet) of grounds on avenue

d’Iéna in the 16th arrondissement

of Paris, which today remains the

city’s most elegant neighbourhood.

Situated between the statue of

George Washington and the Eiffel

Tower, the site was selected by the

prince for its breathtaking views

over the Eiffel Tower and the Seine

River.

The prince commissioned architect

Ernest Janty, renowned for his

reconstruction work of the Louvre

and Tuileries palaces for Napoleon

III,

to design an elegant home and

reception areas in order to receive

notable guests.

Throughout its four years of

construction between 1892 &

1896, the building’s design and

construction caught the attention

of Parisians for its blend of 17th

and 19th century architectural,

simply known as “eclectic style.”

The palace’s façade is inspired by

the Louis XIV style, with intricate

masonry of stone from L’Oise.

Sculptors Steiner and

Houguenade, who also rose to

fame for their craftsmanship on

the Louvre and the Tuileries

Palaces, were commissioned to

carve the façade’s “eclectic style,”

featuring the family’s coat of

arms, lion heads and antlers.

1925…

On the 17th of December 2010 the group

has opened Shangri-La Hotel, Paris,

representing its first property in Europe, a

flagship of intimate scale and local historic

significance.

Inspired by the legendary land featured in

James Hilton’s novel Lost Horizon

published in 1933, the name Shangri-La

encapsulates the serenity and hospitality for

which the brand is renowned worldwide.

Shangri-La group’s tradition of service

excellence started with the opening of

Shangri-La Hotel, Singapore in 1971 and is

based on the core values of sincerity,

humility, helpfulness, respect, courtesy and

selflessness.

With 101 rooms and suites, three

restaurants, one Bar and four events and

reception rooms, Shangri-La Hotel, Paris

cultivates a warm and authentic ambience,

drawing the best from two cultures: the

Asian art of hospitality and the French art

of living.

Our Rooms and Suites

The Shangri-La Hotel, Paris has 101 rooms, including 36 suites.

Richard Martinet is the architect who was in charge of the project, and the

interior design of the hotel is Pierre-Yves Rochon’s work.

40% of our rooms and 60% of our suites have a breathtaking view of the

Eiffel Tower and of the river Seine.

50% of our rooms and suites have balconies and terraces. The exposition

faces towards the sun; all of our rooms are thus very luminous, like the

hotel in general.

The hotel has 3 signature suites:

The Chaillot Suite (150 square meters, including a terrace of 40 square

meters) which has a spectacular view of the Eiffel Tower

The Shangri-La Suite (220 square meters, including a terrace of 100

square meters), which is located at the 7th floor of the hotel, and offering

the most mind-blowing view of Paris, from Montmartre to the Trocadero.

The Imperial Suite (275 square meters), which used to be Roland

Bonaparte’s bedroom.

The average size of our rooms is 47 square meters. Each room or suite was

custom-built, according to the volume and the size of the hotel levels.

La Bauhinia, our « lounge » restaurant :

The Bauhinia is a flower from the orchids family. Its name comes from the

flower that figures on the Hong Kong flag.

La Bauhinia is open from 6.30 AM to 11.00 PM, for breakfast, lunch, tea-

time and dinner.

The menu is composed of French and Asian specialties.

L’Abeille, our French gastronomic restaurant.

The restaurant was designed in a very elegant and modern way, with grey

and silver touches, and most importantly with the imperial bee motif.

L’Abeille has its own private garden, which was designed and emphasized

by our landscape architect, Louis Benech.

The Shang Palace is our Cantonese restaurant.

Five chefs will come from Hong Kong to work in our restaurant, to

guarantee the authenticity of the Cantonese cuisine.

Le Bar

The Bar was inspired from a specific part of the Malmaison castle, and

designed in a Napoleonian « Egypt comeback » decor.

Our cocktails are Asian-influenced. The « Pink Lady » cocktail is our

signature cocktail. It was inspired by Lady Mendl, who was a resident of the

10, avenue d’Iena during the 1930s.

Grand Salon

Le Grand salon is designed in a Louis XIV décor, and hosts a large white marble chimney, adorned with gold bronze, and surmounted by a glass trumeau.

The two wooden gold consoles covered in marble, and the crystal chandeliers are authentic.

This function room is without a doubt the heart of the Bonaparte receptions, and today, the Shangri-La Hotel’s. It now awaits you to write your own

The Salon de Famille draws it’s inspiration from the Empire style décor, airy and fresh.

Marie Bonaparte’s engagement to the Prince of Greece took place in this very room in 1907.

Salle à Manger

La Salle a Manger is entirely devoted to the emperor’s glory. It reunites wooden weapon trophies sculpted in mahogany wood, and military trophies.

The Chimney, the Salle à Manger’s masterpiece, was inspired by the Renaissance era, and is surmounted by a mantelpiece made up of two columns

decorated with a bronze relief. This bronze relief is a replica of David’s painting depicting “Bonaparte conquering the Great Saint Bernard”.
