At 82, Mary Lane is one of the last legendary Blues musicians that made the Great Migration from America’s south. Although widely respected in Chicago, she has never gotten the recognition she deserves. This film follows Mary as she records just her second studio album and first in over 20 years. Directed by Jesseca Ynez Simmons and screens with the short films The Bastille Concerto and Off the Grid.

“Hypnagogic Regression simulates multiple traumatic flashbacks by creating a visual dialogue between three channels of video.”

Katina Bitsicas, born in EL, is a new media artist who utilizes video, photography, and performance in her art works. Her works explore the effects of crime, traumatic personal events, and architectural containments on the human psyche. By dissecting the victim-perpetrator dichotomy as well as the impact of imprisonment, whether it is in a jail, asylum, home, or mind, she creates unconventional dialogues about these topics. Based on personal experiences, she explores these larger political, social, and psychological issues on an intimate level.

Taking principles from Laboria Cubonik’s Xenofeminist Manifesto [XFM] and black feminist critical theory, the House of More at the 2019 Capital City Film Festival showcases how women, LGBTQ, and gender-non-conforming individuals within art and the world explore technology to change the future. “After Hours is based on material captured on the dance floors of Second Life, where, due to lagging graphics, the avatars appear as scattered body parts and pieces of clothing. I think about it as a distorted discotheque, a lingering reflection of the fast paced technological development of the contemporary world, in which various forms, material and virtual, are rapidly transformed and abandoned to give place to new ones.”

Sweden, where she received her MFA at the Royal Institute of Art in 2005. In her videos and installations, she explores the mind and body in relation to the contemporary world.

“Quiet Skies” is a video installation that questions the social implications of the capabilities afforded by digital media for surveillance, data capture, and statistical analyses designed to predict and direct internet users’ future behavior.”

Moira Salman is an interdisciplinary artist completing their MFA at Cranbrook Academy of Art. They work with mixed media, video, and performance to explore themes of the economy, politics, and technology. They received a BFA from Michigan State University. Salman has also taught at Michigan State University and works as a freelance designer.

She is a New Genres artist specializing in video, new media, sound, and performance. With a combined interest in media studies and the make-believe, she produces IN SPACE TV, an experimental net-based television show.

Heather is an artist, researcher, and educator based in Lubbock, Texas (by way of Berkeley, California and Milwaukee, Wisconsin). She earned a PhD in Performance Studies and certificate in Film Studies from the University of California, Berkeley, where she made puppets, did design-oriented solo performance, researched Czech surrealist stop-motion in Prague, taught at the Berkeley Repertory Theatre, and wrote a dissertation on discourses of life in animation and dance film.

The Strange Life of the Savages is a loose collective and an umbrella name for a lot of DIY art projects which are too diverse to have an own branding. It includes film making, performance, bondage, music and teaching and/or coaching. Common denominator happen to be themes which have to do with utopias, sex-positiveness, bondage, polyamory, solidarity, communities, and the free expression of all conscious and consensual life-styles, identities and choices.

“A series of cinemagraphs exploring the idea of “radical visibility” in an ongoing collaboration with the queercrip fashion collective Rebirth Garments and painter Lauryn Welch.”

Eloise Sherrid is an NYC based filmmaker, multimedia artist and educator. Her work explores the intersection, mechanics, and deconstruction of power, politics and narrative.

Sky Cubacub is an artist, designer, and founder of Rebirth Garments, a line of clothing and wearables that challenges mainstream beauty standards that are sizest, ableist, and conform to the gender binary.

Lauryn Welch works and lives in Peterborough, New Hampshire.
