Your Facebook Page/Application Versus Your Website
Recent numbers suggest that individuals and companies are thoroughly pleased with the way that
facebook works for them, whether it’s through an application or just through a fan page.
Facebook provides them with a unique platform on which they can capture a whole new
audience; here the market is more relaxed and laidback while there are many users that spend
just like any customer from other business avenues.
Users on facebook are known for feeling quite comfortable making purchases or participating in
activities. This has resulted in more and more businesses and individuals channeling their offers
through facebook; in other words, facebook is in the continuous process of eating up websites, as
it has allowed companies to offer their products and services via applications on facebook. It is
therefore, quite reasonable for a person to ask: why would anyone want to visit a website when
they can access it through facebook? This is a question that someone or the other was inevitably
bound to ask at some stage.
The debate is on, and many believe that this is what will eventually happen; facebook is going to
keep on eating up as much as it can, it will assimilate majority of websites and will inevitably
become the center of attention, thereby, attracting even more users. This will in turn reinforce its
voracious appetite to swallow more and more websites. Eventually, it appears that facebook will
hold sway over a lot of the activity and freedom that people originally have with websites.
However, facebook might have to go along with making sure they allow more flexibility.
Currently this is not the case.
In contrast to the above opinion, there are many who think quite the opposite; they believe that
facebook does not have what it takes to swallow up everything. In fact, many believe that
facebook appears to be reaching its saturation point. With Google’s attempt at social networking,
this seems to be a reasonable argument. However, a counterargument to this might include
facebook being pepped up by Google’s initiative to compete with it. Currently, many may
speculate over facebook’s future, but at this point in time, it is clear enough that it seems to be
engulfing all that it can, and it is even countering Google’s recent moves in social networking.
