Today, departing DHT business reporter Remo Zaccagna, a die-hard Habs fan being a Montreal product, lists his favourite 10 Canadiens of all time. Fittingly he is off to Halifax’s Daily News, which for years hosted the Hab farm club, the Nova Scotia Voyageurs. We wish RZ the best on the East Coast. We’ll miss him and his other passion - everything U2. Adieu.

My childhood idol. There was nothing of his I did not own: a plethora of hockey

cards, jerseys, masks, posters etc. I tried emulating his mannerisms and signature butterfly-style as a goalie, even talking to the posts. Almost single-handedly won the 1986 and 1993 Cups on his own. The last true superstar the Habs had, and his controversial trad

from the team remains a sore spot with me to this day.

Captain Kirk was a fan favourite during his four years in Montreal as a player and without him 1993 would never have happened, in my opinion. He was also invaluable as an assistant coach in Montreal, and his departure will be the one that hurts the most.

He is tied for the longest-tenured captaincy in team history with the legendary Jean Beliveau, but his courageous return from cancer is what endeared him most to Montrealers. It’s a shame the team never got that #1 centre as Koivu would have been much more effective as the # 2.

Would be higher on an all-time Canadiens players list, but only remember seeing him play his last few seasons in Montreal. That said, Big Bird was still an imposing figure and the unquestioned leader of the defense corps.

“Le Petit Viking” was the last 100-point scorer for the Habs. Exciting to watch, and was an integral piece in two Cup runs, including the 1986 winning team.

Disregarding his disastrous tenure as Canadiens GM (his trade for Scott Gomez will remain a permanent blotch on his record), Gainey was the heart and soul of the team during the two Cup runs in the 1980s. He was the first Hab I met in person, and he made my 10-year-old self the happiest kid on the block.

He played just parts of five seasons with Le Tricolore, but was one of the few bright spots during an otherwise dismal era in the team’s history.

Might come as a surprise to some, but I loved his work ethic and winning attitude. He played hard each and every shift, obviously loved to play the game, and was one of the leaders on and off the ice in the 1993 Stanley Cup run.
