Askew’s album Little Eyes was independently released in 1971 and then re-released in 2007. The album was conceived to simulate a continuous performance. This man is a genius. With some of the most addictive songs ever written, everyone should sit down with a set of headphones and let this album take you in. Most likely the greatest live performance in music history. While listening to this album, you can almost feel as if you were in the crowd. Cooke has one of the greatest voices of all time. From the greatest songwriter ever. This album is essential to understanding the genius that is Bob Dylan. This record was a defining moment in his career as he put away his folks roots to create a true rock record. A solo venture from singer/ drummer Noah Lennox of Animal Collective. Person Pitch is the third album under the moniker Panda Bear. With his soothing dub/electro beats this album is for everyone. With their spacious and atmospheric sound, Joy Division wasn’t a band that saw Billboards #1 spots but they built an underground following because of their amazing live performances. In the last three decades this album has influenced almost every indie band today. The second of two albums released by McCartney before leaving The Beatles. Credited as a collaborative effort with his wife Linda, this album offers listeners a fun and catchy album that has passed the test of time. In my opinion this record includes some of the best songs ever written by McCartney. 5 6 7 Indie-rock outfit Neutral Milk Hotel were another one of those bands that were ahead of their time. Inspired by the story of Anne Frank, In the Aeroplane over the Sea is considered one of the greatest indie albums ever released with its inventive instrumentation and provocative lyrics. One of the only albums of the last few years that I feel comfortable saying is one of the greatest pop records ever created. With its almost eerie tones and harmonized vocals this album almost scares you after the first listen. But after the initial shock, you are intertwined with an album that only gets better over time. 3 4 8 9 10
