To raise questions, discussions and hopefullyget some interesting and informativefeedback.

Not all of the suggestions must be followedor used they are merely a starting off point.

Introduction & background

The Young Cultural Ambassadors scheme hasbeen developed to help engage young peoplewith arts and cultural opportunities inHartlepool.

We believe young people between the agesof 13 to19 are an under represented audiencewithin arts and cultural venues, which wehope to change.

We want to start a dialogue with youngpeople to find out their views.

We want young people to view places likethe Gallery, Museum, Theatre and Library aswelcoming places for a young person to visit.

We hope to learn from the feedback wereceive and use it to develop a more engagingcultural offer for young people.

We would like young people to share andpromote opportunities amongst their friendsand family.

The YCA project is a self led project withinschools and we aim to keep regular contactwith YCA’s and their progress via emailedupdates and occasional meetings. We wouldlike to be informed about outcomes fromactivities in the toolkit, and we hope they willgive us a good idea of what young peoplereally want from cultural venues in the town!

Artist profiles

Logan HicksLogan Hicks is an American stencil artist, currently living and working in Los Angeles,California, in the hub of America's urban artscene. His hand-cut stencil process involvescutting a separate stencil for each colour, then layering each colour upon the next untilthe final piece emerges, often hundreds ofhours later, as a “virtuoso” piece of stencil artwhich is to say it is of outstanding technicalachievement.

Originally a screen printer, Logan sold off hisequipment to finance his migration from theEast Coast to the West Coast, turning tostencilling to re-invigorate his printing. Sincethen he has become renowned as one of themost meticulous stencil artists workingtoday.

Lucian FreudLucian Michael Freud, 8 December 1922 - 20 July 2011) was a German-born Britishpainter. Known chiefly for his thicklyimpastoed portrait and figure paintings, hewas widely considered the pre-eminentBritish artist of his time.

Impasto is a technique used in painting and itmeans where paint is layered very thickly. Itcomes from an Italian word meaning “dough”or “mixture”
