coolux - Who we are
The coolux GmbH was founded in Cologne, Germany on August 14th, 2003.
Right from the beginning, we decided to think outside the box of traditional video playback technology and to culti-vate an open mind for innovations in order to make a true technological leap in the world of real-time video.
This “leap” has a name. Pandoras Box.
What began as a niche technology has steadily grown into an indispensable part of the modern AV industry in all its forms.
coolux Pandoras Box media servers and related software systems can now be found in all kinds of markets and industries, ranging from event venues to broadcast studios, on board of cruise ships and inside modern museums and visitor centres.
The crowning moment of the Pandoras Box system’s multi- award success story was undoubtedly receiving the 2008 Emmy Technology & Engineering Award, which underlined the successful introduction of the Pandoras Box product family to the broadcast market.
With over thirty international distributors and two partner companies in the US and China (coolux International and coolux China respectively), we have established ourselves as one of the leading innovators in the realm of real-time media compositing, show-control and interactivity.
coolux products are scalable and available with different features and in different editions. You can find the perfect product depending on your specific project and budget needs.
Our product family ranges from compact software editions to turnkey solutions that feature state of the art server systems, developed and built for 24/7 use.
Three things to remember
By keeping the following three guidelines in mind, diving into our product portfolio will be a lot easier:
1. All Pandoras Box systems are fully compatible and share the same user interface.
Switching between different editions is very easy, due to the integrated interface approach. If you know one Pandoras Box edition, you will be able to use and control others as well.
2. Everything happens in real-time.
Whether you are interested in projections, compositing, mapping, tracking, show controlling, immersive media environments or related fields, Pandoras Box allows you to successfully realise all of your project requirements in real-time.
3. Everything is modular and can be centrally controlled and synchronised.
You can mix and match an unlimited number of Pan-doras Box products and centrally control all of them in addition to being able to truly sync the media content being played out via network.

The new features make it possible to stay within the coolux Pandoras Box user interface from the first stages of content creation right up to the final production display. One idea can progress through all the necessary production stages whilst ensuring maximum compatibility and effectiveness.
Live-Input Recording
Pandoras Box Servers now make it possible to record live-video from any HD SDI or DVI source directly to HD MPEG. (DirectShow Inputs are also supported.)
Layer Flexibility
It is now possible to re-structure individual layers easily with drag & drop. This way the rendering order can be instantly re-ordered and organized according to your project setup. Arranging your layer structures has never been easier.
Unlimited Graphics & Source Routing
Create and add any number of graphic layers depending on your project needs. Make use of the new efficient source routing to route any video layer sources to any other layer.
Console Mode & Advanced Patching
With the new dynamic layer structures, users can now easily add more parameters and effects to any layer. In order to facilitate the control, users can start Pandoras Box in a dedicated console mode or simply create and extend the DMX library from within the interface. This means that any parameter can now be individually patched.
Interactive Content & Control
It is now possible to interact, click, drag and touch onto any 2D or 3D layer elements on any Pandoras Box Output. A new Pointer item is also available to visualize mouse or touch interaction. In the preview interface it is possible to select, move, rotate scale and apply content which allows a faster editing and a more intuitive user experience.
Dynamic Web Browser
Any Pandoras Box layer can now display HTML based web content with full java script support. Using interactive content has become much easier thanks to the new layer mouse & touch input. A newly included Webserver allows direct Java script access to all SDK commands and functions.
Remote Input Injection
Remote input devices such as AirScan, camera tracking or other gesture based systems can now be used to forward their input data directly to any Pandoras Box display output in a network. Widget Designer can be used to collect and route dedicated inputs from any source to any display system.
WatchFolder & Media Monitoring
Use automatic media management to speed up your content workflow. Any folder can be set up as a so called watch folder. Once a content designer adds new content to the folder, it will be auto-matically populated across the system to be instantly available.

Output ConfigurationAll Pandoras Box Servers feature full HD playback and dual 2D & 3D stereo output configurations. All video layers can be freely positioned onto any of the two outputs. Both DVI outputs can be set to a resolution up to 2048x1080 at 60/50hz.
Advanced Output SynchronizationThe new Pandoras Box Server systems are the perfect choice when two or more synchronized outputs are required. All video layers are internally synced via the coolux proprietary Media-Net. Virtual Devices allow management and control of any amount of servers as a single entity.

Interactive projections, camera automation, audio tracking, stage tracking and lighting control are just some of the areas in which this ingenious new product will offer great benefits and unprecedented flexibility.
Each of the tags can be addressed with a unique ID, which opens up the possibility of up to 256 different unique IDs being tracked in real-time within a single setup.
One individual tag has two LEDs onboard and can have between one to three additional infrared LEDs attached to it.
Tracking people or objects this way is achieved using a purely optical transmission system, thus avoiding the many pitfalls of radio control based setups.

This development is further helped by the release of more cost effective 4K cameras, which means that it has never been easier to actually produce 4K content.
The simple fact that the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) recently created a new 3840x2160 pixel standard called Ultra HD is yet another sign of the increasing popularity of pixel formats beyond the current Full HD standard.
Although a variety of major technology brands are already deliver-ing professional display and projector solutions, most 4K formats have not been truly standardised as of yet.
