Introduction and Product Concept The FS-9130DN and FS-9530DN are the next generation of monochrome ECOSYS department printers. They are designed as replacements for the current FS-9120DN and the FS-9520DN and offer improvements in many areas. In addition to duplex and network as standard the new Kyocera printers increased print speed, productivity, reliability, ease of use and not to forget the overall functionality. The extraordinary paper handling capabilities will match easily standard as well as special requirements. In line with Kyocera’s philosophy of delivering long term benefit to business customers, the new range all feature the unique ECOSYS long-life technology. Print speeds for the new models are: FS-9130DN : 40 ppm (A4), 23 ppm (A3), 31 ppm (A5) FS-9530DN : 51 ppm (A4), 26 ppm (A3), 40 ppm (A5)

The FS-9130DN and FS-9530DN improved the reliability, productivity and ease of use compared to their predecessors. The increased speed of the FS-9130DN re-establishes the required speed difference to the A3 workgroup printers. The new generation of finishers offers now the same superior functionality as the Kyocera Top products KM-6030/KM-8030 (60/80 ppm). Dealers and customers benefit in addition from its compatibility to the brandnew monochrome MFP range KM-3050/KM-4050/KM-5050 (30/40/50 ppm) as well as colour MFP products KM-C2520/KM-C3225/KM-C3232 (25-32 ppm) and not to forget the announced colour printer FS-C8100DN (32 ppm). Improvements of the print engine, especially the fuser unit, improved productivity of A5 printing as well as better quality of special media type printing make the FS-9530DN more suitable to be used in the back office for high volume printing requirements.

Newly developed fusing system FS-9130DN/9530DN comes with a newly developed fusing system, which aims to solve issues to improve the fusing performance and productivity of fusing for small paper sizes, as well as improving thermal efficiency. Major changes from the previous model are as follows.

1. Stabilization of fusing temperature The control system of the fusing temperature was changed from an ON-OFF control system to a PID（Proportional Integral Differential）control system. In addition, a no-contact thermometer and thermostat were added in the central area of the fusing roller. These changes ensure precise temperature measurement, resulting in an even temperature on the fusing roller overall and more efficient power consumption.

2. Improved productivity when printing small paper sizes Two halogen lamps with a different distribution heat pattern have been arranged inside the fusing roller to achieve optimization of the temperature balance on the fusing roller. Moreover, in order to improve the thermal conductivity on the entire fusing roller, the material of the fusing roller was changed from iron to aluminum, with

excellent thermal conductivity, and the thickness was increased six fold. These improvements help raise productivity when printing small paper sizes and reduce fusing failures when printing large paper sizes after large volumes of small paper sizes are printed continuously. 3. Improved fusing performance when printing thick paper The diameter and nip width of the press roller has also been changed. These changes result in an increase in the contact time, which helps to improve fusing performance when printing thick paper.

Standard Duplex Functionality The FS-9130DN and FS-9530DN deliver duplex functionality as standard enabling to print booklets without further investment (or investigation how to manage printing of booklets. In this way it improves productivity). The ability to print on both sides of the page results in reduced paper consumption benefiting the environment. (This is the reason to include the feature into the requirements for Blue Angel certification.) Additionally, there is a cost advantage to the customer. Standard Network Connectivity The FS-9130DN and FS-9530DN offer standard network connectivity, which fulfils requirements of more than 90% of department printers. Optional network interfaces cover the remaining required specification (TokenRing, FibreLink, WireLess ..) When sharing printers with multiple users in a network environment, the set up and administration become major areas of concern for Network Managers and Administrators and the wide range of tools and utilities offered by Kyocera to simplify this process are an important differentiator. Another appealing point for the network printers are the many network utilities available, which help the administrators and clients easily, manage their printers. Utilities for Administrators KM-NET VIEWER is a comprehensive print system monitoring utility that enables the administrator to manage all printers on the network. Toner and paper levels can be checked remotely across the network and IP address and port settings can also be confirmed and/or configured/ modified remotely. Groups of printers can be built to structure the incoming information. The use of filters makes sure that only the required information is presented. The KM Net Viewer can offer functions like email notification and automatic generation of reports even with printers which do not have this functionality integrated in their print server. Broadcasting of files to all, or selected printers, can be used for the distribution of files to create identical setup of all chosen printers in one step. This minimizes the effort to support the printers. KM-NET VIEWER Web Edition 2 is a Java based utility. Therefore, regardless of the network platform, a wide range of network printers can be monitored remotely using this tool. As important device status and function information can be monitored, the administrator is able to ensure smooth operation of printers and foresee potential problems and rectify many situations with minimum disturbance to the printer users. As KM-NET VIEWER Web Edition 2 is a server-based application it can be accessed from any client PC using a standard web browser and it is not necessary to install any software applications to benefit from this valuable funcitonality.

Utilities for Clients KM-NET for Clients enables the verification of device status, including the confirmation of default settings and the ability to make changes to the printer settings. Messages corresponding to those on the LCD panel of the printer and a 3-dimnesional graphical representation of the printer are available. In addition, information regarding the paper sizes in the cassettes, the remaining paper levels and installed options is also offered. KM-NET for Direct Printing is a function that enables direct printing of PDF files. PDF files can be sent to the printer without opening a software application on the user’s desktop, enabling easy and quick printing. At the printer the data is processed and printed as if it had been sent from the actual software application. Security printing can be achieved by using KM-NET for Direct Printing. Encrypted PDF files (password protected) can be safely printed. The password can be input to the KM-NET for Direct Printing screen. The printer will then use this password to decrypt the PDF file and print. Therefore, as the file is sent across the network it can remain encrypted until it reaches the printer – avoiding potential file hacking. Highly functional paper handling as standard 1,200 sheets from 3 different paper sources and 500 sheets output capacity ensures that the printer is ready to start in every department. The integrated multi purpose cassette offers unmatched functionality:

• 45 – 200 g/m² to support very wide range of different media types • 200 sheets paper capacity for regular use of special media type • Closed cassette up to A4R protects paper against dust and damage • Occupied printer size is minimized with closed cassette

Common paper options with Falcon 3 and Voyager The choice between two different paper feeders for high volume or high flexibility and between Entry level Finisher and powerful Finisher is expected from a top department printer. But the offered functionality of the scalable Document Finisher DF-710 is unmatched n the category of 50 ppm Office Printers. Additional benefit to dealers and customers is given by the broad compatibility with the up to 50 ppm MFP models and the up to 32 ppm fast colour products. Powerful controller The print controller is equipped with the fast Power PC 750FL, 600 MHz and 64 / 128 MB RAM as standard to minimize bottlenecks during data processing and make so the best use of the fast print engine. PRESCRIBE IIe, the wide range of emulations including PostScript 3 and PCL 6 and many default interfaces ensure the required flexibility and connectivity is offered to the user.

USB Host interface supports PDF Direct Printing from Flash memory devices With the FS-9130DN/FS-9530DN PDF files that have been saved on a USB Flash memory device can be directly printed without using a PC (same as A4 workgroup printers FS-2000D, FS-3900DN, FS-4000DN, FS-6950DN). By inserting the USB device into the USB port, file names can be viewed on the panel and selected for printing. This makes printing during a visit in branch offices very easy. It also reduces the chance of accidentally leaving printed documents at the device or a colleague accidentally walking away with confidential material. NB The files to be printed must be in the root directory of the USB Flash Memory device in order to be viewed and available for print at the device. The USB host supports up to 100 files saved on the USB Flash Memory device. Kyocera’s KX Driver The Kyocera KX Driver is the only driver that supports multi-Operating System and multi–language. When compared to competitor products which often have different drivers for different Operating Systems and different Printer Command Languages, the KX driver is a seamless driver that supports all common Operating Systems and Page Description Languages.

It is extremely user-friendly and installations or upgrades can be done simultaneously and with minimum disruption across multiple MFP or printer device installations. The Graphical User Interface of the KX driver is consistent and as such it is easy for users to move from one device to another without any need to learn their way around a new driver interface. eMPS (enhanced Multiple Printing System) Document Management

Data Security Kit C for secure deletion of data files on HD-5 In case confidential data was stored on the hard disk HD-5 it is good to know that the option Data Security Kit C offers secure deletion by overwriting, which will be tested to be compliant with regulations for ISO 15408 IEL 3. Secure and fast printing of confidential documents (HD-5 supported) Normally confidential documents are printed with a lower speed and lower featured desktop printer. With the FS-9130DN and FS-9530DN confidential documents can be stored in a PIN-code closed virtual mailbox. After sending the document to the printer it is rasterised and then stored as a printable image. After a identification via PIN-code is done, the real printout is generated on engine speed. This combines the advantage of fastest printing with secure printing. Quick Print (HD-5 and RAM disk supported) Easy reprinting of stored jobs is enabled. This creates fastest possible printout, reduces network traffic and guarantees identical printout.

Proof and Hold (HD-5 and RAM disk supported) Printing many sets of a large document can result in a lot of obstacles: Either all sets are printed at once and a complete reprint is needed when a error is recognized. Many users print a first set for checking, but even with a correct sample printout a complete reprint (Open document, activate printer driver, start printing, transfer via network) is necessary. With the sophisticated Proof and Hold feature first a sample is printed. Dependent from the final check either additional copies are reprinted direct from the printers hard disk or the document is deleted when the user want to edit the document again. Job storage (HD-5 supported) The FS-9130DN and FS-9530DN enables the temporary and permanent storage of documents. Dependent from the used feature reprinting of the jobs is either at the control panel or from the PC (via Browser or the KM Net Viewer) possible. 255 virtual mailboxes for ”unlimited number” of users (HD-5 supported) Nearly a unlimited (255) number of virtual mailboxes can be established. Each user can work in the same way as with a desktop printer or a real sorter by printing to a specified mailbox. He empties his mailbox by printing all documents which are collated since the last access. The real printout in engine speed can be activated at the printer control panel.

Department codes for accounting purpose The functionality of department codes, well known in the copier industry, is offered by the FS-9130DN and FS-9530DN. The access to the printer as well as the cost tracking can be handled by ease with that feature, which is offered already in standard configuration.

RFID technology in toner kit supports Toner Level Monitor How much toner remains is no longer a guessing game. With Kyocera’s intelligent toner level monitoring, you always know exactly where you stand. Genuine Kyocera toner ensures you get a precise reading via the KM-NET utility or with a quick glance at the Status Page. This functionality is only available with genuine Kyocera toner and is delivered through the inclusion of an RFID chip on the toner container.

Nevertheless it is a simple task for the user. Environmental Consideration The FS-9130DN and the FS-9530DN adopt the economical and ecological benefits of Kyocera’s unique ECOSYS technology. Through increasing the life of key components (up to 500,000 sheets) the only consumable item requiring regular replacement is the toner. This reduces waste and contributes to environmental preservation. Designed to match international environment requirements Compliant with EnergyStar, RoHS* and Blue Angel* requirements. * Overview of Blue Angel and RoHS requirements can be requested separately. Application for Blue Angel certification will start soon. Duplex as standard reduces paper consumption. Reduction of power consumption The printers enter by factory default after 15 minutes into the Sleep Mode, which reduces the power consumption to only 4.5 W. This setting can be adjusted to user requirements between 5 and 240 minutes. In case the fast first page has highest priority the Sleep Mode can be disabled. Independent from the configuration of the Sleep Mode a reduction of the power consumption is realized by the PowerSave mode, which will always be activated in case there was no print in the last 10 minutes and Sleep Mode is not yet activated. Low Noise (xxx db/xxx db, xxx db …) A quieter working environment is a more productive environment. In base configuration the FS-9130DN/FS-9530DN can be placed within the department because the noise level is given special attraction not only in Sleep Mode. Configured with the full scalable finisher functionality it is recommended to position the printer configuration at locations, which ensures that noise influence to the users is further reduced. Material from recycled drink bottles The housing unit for the fixing roller is made from recycled PET (polyethylene terephthalate) from plastic drinking bottles. This helps to alleviate the problem of the masses of drinking containers that are discarded.

Adoption of pulp mould The packaging for the main unit, enhancement and options and the toner container packaging consist of pulp mould made from recycled paper. Lead free wiring Lead has been removed from the harness on printed circuit boards. Non-halogen exterior material The exterior material in the casing is a non-halogen (no-chlorine, fluorine, iodine or bromine) combination of polycarbonate and ABS so when burnt, no dioxins are emitted.

Great choice of additional network interfaces In addition to the integrated onboard network interface the customer has the choice between several powerful internal or external network interfaces. These interfaces offer the connection to Token Ring, Fibre optic (10 or 100 Mbit), Wireless LAN or to older networks with a BNC connector.

Fibre Optic Kyocera offers Fibre optic interfaces in two different versions. SB-50 for Ethernet and SB-110FX for FastEthernet. The SB-110FX is the ideal interface to prepare the switch from Ethernet/Fast Ethernet with RJ 45 cabling to the 100 Mbit SC connection of fibre link because both systems are supported. This flexibility makes it possible to remain with current cabling for the time being, and switch department by department when needed. There is no easier way to decide for the tap-proof technology.

Wireless LAN Wireless LAN is becoming more and more popular in the business and SOHO environments. It offers great flexibility combined with ease of installation and use. Some of the advantages are: The highest flexibility for changing locations at seminars, congresses, fairs and in growing companies. First time network installations in new offices benefit from wireless technology without premium prices, because the higher hardware prices can be compensated by much lower personal costs. Especially department printers are often positioned in a central area or floor where no network cabling is available. Wireless LAN offers here the best connectivity. Problematic locations like protected monument buildings and department floors, the domain of analog copiers, benefit most from easiest installation of network printers and digital copiers.

2005 Western Europe Mono Printer Market A3 by speed segment (IDC)

The A3 monochrome printer market in Western Europe decreased by nearly 12 %. High speed office printers (45 – 69 ppm) are increasing units by almost 30%. The segment of 31 – 44 ppm achieved the biggest portion (38%) of the market, even so the unit sales dropped by 3.3%. Printers from lower speed segments will continue to move into the 31-44 ppm arena (examples: FS-6950DN and HP LJ 5200) resulting in even higher share of the total A3 monochrome printer market. The Kyocera department printers are in the 31 – 69 ppm speed range, which increased its A3 printer market share from 50% to 61%.

HP and Kyocera reduced drastic the sales, while NRG, Ricoh and Lanier increased sales resulting in a leadership of the Ricoh engines. Looking at the Value it is easy to realise that the NRG 7032 and NRG 7132 are sold at high prices, those leading to the expectation that click prices, services and Marketing/Sales are the driving force behind their success in the printer market. Konica Minolta lost sales opportunities while Epson, who is dealing with the same Konica Minolta engine, “doubled” sales. The HP LJ 9040 and Kyocera FS-9130DN are on the product side the weapons to fight back for success in the sales channel and tender business, which easily influences market share a lot.

The high speed 45 – 69 ppm A3 Office printer segment realised an tremendous increase of nearly 30%. Kyocera could with nearly 20 % increase participate only partly from the higher market opportunities. NRG, Ricoh and Lanier have with the old 45 ppm engine only very limited presence in this segment. Lexmark, Xerox and IBM are selling the same FujiXerox engine (45 ppm old, 50 ppm new) achieving together much higher sales thant the HP LJ 9050. The fact that the Ricoh engines are leading in the 31-44 ppm and the Fuji Xerox engine in the 45 – 69 ppm shows that there are very good market opportunities beside HP, which are more concentrating on the A4 printer business.

The A3 monochrome printer market increased in the CEMA market by 13,1 %. In year 2005 the market is split between the dominating workgroup market (21-30 ppm, 58 %) and the strongly increasing high speed department printer market (45-69 ppm, 26 %). The mid speed segment (31-44 ppm) is squeezed based on the polarization between low cost workgroup printers and high speed department printers and strong offers of high speed A4 printers, which are seen as alternative, when speed was the main purchasing decision. The FS-6950DN will help Kyocera to participate in the strong demand for A3 workgroup printers, which are on the way to switch from 21-30 ppm to the 31-44 ppm segment (see also HP LJ 5100 LJ 5200). Existing entry level department printers offered mainly with 32 – 36 ppm has had difficulties to differentiate from A3 workgroup printers and high speed A4 printers. The new generation with 40 ppm (FS-9130DN, HP LJ 9040) offer a valuable alternative to the top range of 50 ppm office printers with completely same functionality.

The market is in 2005 dominated by HP with 50.2 % market share. The segment of 31-44 ppm faced in 2005 drastic decrease of more than 50 %, based on the disappearance of Xerox in this segment (and drastic reduced sales from Kyocera). Xerox replaced the Phaser 5400 (40 ppm), which was bestseller in 2004, with the new Phaser 5500 (50 ppm). As a result Xerox sales switched from the 31 – 44 ppm segment to the 45 - 69 ppm segment.

The 45-69 ppm segment is in the CEMA territory clearly dominated by the FujiXerox engines (45 ppm old, 50 ppm new) offered from Xerox and Lexmark achieving in total above 70 % market share. Competitive Summary for FS-9130DN and FS-9530DN

The FS-9520DN was already **** Highly recommended by Bertl underlining the performance of the previous model. See Bertl report for details.

With up to 51 A4 ppm the FS-9530DN is the fastest in its class. 3.5 Seconds for time to first print is one of the best in the office market. The FS-9130DN/FS-9530DN offers with duplex and network as standard the functionality, which usually is only available in the premium model configurations.

Competitors optional duplex units/model configurations may offer full engine speed in duplex mode and/or support of thicker paper.

The 200 sheet multi purpose cassette offers highest capacity. When paper formats up to A4 are used the cassette can be closed resulting in dust protection and compact dimensions. Usually a multi purpose tray requires additional space, does not protect the paper and can be even an option. The high capacity toner box (40,000 pages @ 5%) and the long life MK-Kit (500K pages) are unmatched in the office market resulting in less user intervention, maintenance calls and lowest CPP and TCO. Controller features: The 600 MHz CPU (PowerPC 750FL) has highest clock rate in the 31 – 44 ppm segment and second best in the 50 ppm arena. Kyocera offers one of first products with PDF Direct Printing from USB Flash memory. The only printer which offers Data Security Kit for secure erase of the hard disk. The Toner CPP of Lexmark W840 is with 0.5 EuroCent already 50% higher than the 0.33 EuroCent of the FS-9x30DN. With the inclusion of the drum as additional consumable (only 60K lifetime) the Lexmark W840 is with 0.725 EuroCent about 120% more expensive than the FS-9x30DN.

FS-9530DN vs. Xerox Phaser 5500 family

Looking at toner price only the Phaser 5500 is on similar price level as the Kyocera FS-9x30DN. The very high price of short life drum itself results in additional CPP of 0.45 EuroCent, which on its own is already higher than CPP of FS-9x30DN.

The Phaser 5500 has in total with 0.825 EuroCent (Toner+Drum) 150% higher CPP than the FS-9x30DN resulting in big saving potential for Kyocera customers.
