Any research involving human subjects proposed by faculty, staff, or students must be reviewed and approved by the Office of Human Research Ethics before research
may begin, and before related grants may be funded.
The first step in determining if your project requires review is to read the OHRE’s IRB Online Submission Guide.Please make IRB determination as early as the process is subject to the OHRE’s review schedule.Email IRB approval or waiver to: [email protected]

Award Payment
If you are not a U.S. Citizen:
Follow up directly with Shelley Clarke.
If you are a U.S. Citizen:
Your award will be paid as a voucher. For tax purposes, it is considered income. UNC will issue a1099 or a 1098 form at the end of January 2016.
What do you need to obtain funds?
IRB approval or waiver A copy of your One Card Updated address where your
check should be mailed or completed bank form for direct deposit, even if you are on UNC payroll.

Tinker Field Research Grants:
Must follow the 75% travel and 25% field related expenses ratio. 75% travel expenses: airfare, local transportation, in-country flights, car rentals, etc.25% Field related expenses: Food, accommodations, research expenses, health insurance, visas, etc.
Future grants rely on your adherence to these requirements.
Mellon Dissertation Awardees
You may be receiving funds for:
Research travel
Research travel and write up
or
Write Up only
International Travel Insurance All faculty, staff, and students traveling abroad in affiliation with the University
are required to purchase international travel insurance, provided by HTH Worldwide.
Contact Janet Hoernke and provide the following information: Name Date of birth Gender Dates of travel (starting and end date) Address (preferred address is “international” location, if known at the time
of the roster submission. Otherwise, your home address) Home country
If traveling to your home country, you do not need insurance if you would otherwise be covered there. If traveling to additional country you will need insurance for time in that country.

No limit on # of days RATE - $1.30/DAY
Rates may be increasing in June. examples:
1.30 * 14 days = $18.20 1.30 * 30 days = $39.00 1.30 * 65 days = $84.50

All UNC students, faculty, and staff traveling on UNC programs, projects, or business are required to submit their itinerary to the registry.
Review the UNC Travel policy to countries with current warnings and restrictions . May need to complete a release form.
