Welcome to the Annual Harvest Hoedown Sale. We have brought to you a diverse group of bred heifers all carrying AI service dates and Pregnancy tested. Our one open heifer offering is sired by our newest herdsire Red Surge and we feel you will be impressed. All the females come up to date on their appropriate inoculation including ivomec and scour guard. We have just completed our fall cattle show at MLE in Brandon and have elected to give Agribition a miss this year- which has given us some free time that we hopefully, will put to good use!! Our show @ MLE was a huge success! We took 8 Simmental and won 8 banners and we took 1 Red Angus and won the open heifer calf with her! We also had one of our bred heifers chosen in the Super Simmental Select (pick of the barn) @ MLE. The grandkids did their showing at the provincial show in Harding, the Manitoba Beef Round-up in Neepawa and at MLE. Dawson (8) is now a huge help in the showring. He shows the cattle in all the open classes as well as the junior events. He has made the aunties especially proud with being named champion pee-wee judge and sales talker @ the Round-up and reserve junior showperson @ MLE. Madison (6) has made huge strides with her showing capabilities. She showed the champion open heifer at the MLE YCSA show, leaving Dawson as the reserve. This gave her a huge confi dence boost. Madi also was the Pee-Wee photography winner this summer so we hope our days of taking sale pictures will soon come to an end! We look forward to visiting with each of you at the sale and welcome your appraisal of the cattle. Take care. Calvin, Donna, Tracy and Marcia

She offers calving ease, growth and maternals. Her dam is a consistent producer with bulls going to the Warkentin herd in Virden and Northern Paradise Ranch at Portage. Expect much the same given the pedigree and past performance of the cow family and being bred to House is an added bonus! House is homozygous black and homozygous polled. Trudie is a very nice heifer.

This polled, broody heifer should go on to be a big producer. Bred to Ankonian Ryan, a homozygous red factor bull that will increase the maternal characteristics and milking ability of your red herd. Ryan is homozygous polled - so give the dehorner away!

We showed Sage 25J at all stages and were lucky enough to snag the Championship at Manitoba Fall Fair as a two year old pair back in 2001. Bred to “Show Off”, a heterozygous black, polled bull that we think a lot of. We included both breedings on her even though the vet leaned towards the second breeding.

Bred early to S-Paw Blk Show Off, a bull we purchased a semen package on and have used heavily this spring. Honey was part of our fall show string.

But we decided that giving someone else the opportunity at this outstanding female was the best move. She has tested HOMOZYGOUS POLLED and is multi-generations red! When you see the capacity this female carries, along with her feed conversion ability, she will be hard to pass up. We really like the Caesar calves we have so we thought this mating would work tremendously.

Welcome to the 2008 edition of Hoedown. The heifers that are in the sale are herd ready.

The bred heifers have had three IBR and blackleg vaccinations, (baby, wean-ing and pre-breeding). They have been on a mineral program and have been treated for parasites this fall and have also had a shot of scour guard. The two open calves have had two shots of IBR and Blackleg vaccinations and also the parasite control.

The heifers that were noted to be not exposed - were never exposed to a bull- they ran in a pasture that had no bulls and no close neighbors with friendly bulls. The exposed heifers after June 25th were put into the same pasture as the other heifers.

There are a lot of old cows moving out of production right now and now is a good time to replace them with young stock that you can easily afford during these confl icting times.

Build up a young herd with genetics that will work for you. A down market is the best time to expand a good herd; that way you are ready when the market is on the rise. We have selected females that cover all aspects of the Simmental breed- Flecks, Polled, Baldies, and Black. All of these heifers will work and come with no extra clipping or washing, or haltering (we are no longer as young and energetic as before and we have more work than bodies at our home now and some things just do not get done).

However this will not affect the heifers genetic potential as I’m sure you all know!

Thank you for coming to the sale and if there are any questions – give us a call.

Welcome to our 14th Annual Harvest Hoedown sale.

Our “sale feature” is a full Fleck “Vegas” heifer bred to the Anchor “T” Metro bull. The rest of the fullblood “Vegas” heifers are bred to the full Fleck MFI Whistler 5244 herdsire. Whistler has proven to be easy calving and his offspring are eye appealing and moderate framed.

In our red factor offering we have an impressive “Dynamite Black” female bred to Top Gun. The remainder of the red factor females are bred to NAC Tanner 58T, our new junior, black herdsire we purchased at the 2007 Premium Beef bull sale from Northern Light Simmentals. We feel this mating between the red and black will produce very marketable calves.

All 9 bred heifers have been treated with Dectomax and vaccinated with Bovashield, Ultrachoice and have had a vitamin shot.

After viewing the cattle sales this fall, and seeing the heavier calves bringing as much per pound as the lighter calves, it’s easy to see how proven, predictable genetics can pay for themselves in no time.

We appreciate your support in our program and welcome any inquiries you may have. Give us a call or drop in anytime. Coffee is always on.

Welcome to Hoedown, 2008 version from the crew here at Preston Stock Farms. We’ve been raising Simmental cattle at our place since the fall of 1975. A lot has changed over the years, but one constant has remained through out all of those years – great cattle and great people. Both of those ingredients keep us as dedicated to the purebred cattle industry as we have ever been.

2008 has been one of those roller coaster years that tax the resiliency of the prairie spirit – oil has gone up to unheard of prices and has now settled back down to dramatic lows; the loonie took fl ight last fall and now has come back to earth; fertilizer prices have reached all time highs as did grain prices – until we got it in the bin and ready for sale! Cattle markets remain very volatile and uncertain due to a lot of factors but especially the uncertainty with COOL regulations in the US. And there is that small matter of an international fi nancial crisis that has us on the verge of a recession…..

But Canadian cattle producers have been through all of this before – and one thing for sure, you might as well be feeding a good cow as an also-ran! So we are here with eleven of those good ones for your appraisal. We have an interesting mix of pedigrees, mostly red factor females with two blacks and two fullbloods to round out the offering. Dynamite Black, Bodybuilder, Hurricane, Warrior, Justice and Metro show up as the sires of these heifers. We AI’d all of our heifers to KS Bravado P68, then used Warrior and our Bombshell bull to clean up. These heifers have had little pampering, coming in off pasture only a month before sale time. They have had the full gamut of the PSF health protocol, including their fi rst calf scours vaccination. Buy with confi dence, take them home, and be ready to turn a profi t with the calves they deliver next spring.

Merry Christmas from our corral to yours, and all the best for 2009.
