“Yes Wii Can” is an interactive project in which people with Alzheimer’s from Respite Care and the Highlands worked with a Nintendo Wii. Special Thanks to Nancy Herk- Bott, Lisa Secone, Respite Care, the Highlands, all of the Alzheimer’s patients, and Target A common theme for dealing with Alzheimer’s and other related dementias is to focus on what you CAN do, not what you can’t do. The Wii’s basic functions fit perfectly with that concept. There is been a progressive increase of Alzheimer’s cases in the US (5 million), and it is the 6 th highest leading cause of death. This project was desingned to allow the patients engage in fun and healthy activites to help sustain their quality of life. The Wii comes with activities including baseball, bowling, golfing, tennis, and boxing. The patients, who normally would not be able to do any of these enjoyable activities due to their mental and physical limitations, were able to enjoy themselves with just a few swings of a remote.
