ASSESSMENT TherearethreemodesofassessmentatYear9.1.AssessmentTasksAgradewillbeawardedforspecifictasksandprojects.Thegradesindicatehowwellthestudentisperformingintheseareasoftheunit.Assessmenttaskscanincludemajorprojects,topictests,writtenreports,oralpresentationsandfolios.Eachsubjectwillcompleteaminimumof3assessmenttaskseachsemester.Agradewillbeawardedforeachtask.Tosatisfactorilycompleteaunit,astudentmust:a. Completeallassessmenttasks.b. ObtainagradelessthanPinnomorethanoneassessmenttask.2.LevelofAchievementagainstStatewideLearningStandardsIn2020,MullaunaCollegewillbeassessingtotheVictorianCurriculumstandards.ThisframeworkidentifieseightlearningareasandfourgeneralcapabilitiesforthePreptoYear10curriculum.TheLearningAreasdescribedistinctdisciplines,whilethecapabilitiesrepresentknowledgeandskillsthataredevelopedandappliedacrossthecurriculum.TheVictorianCurriculumincludesstandardsattenlevels.ThelevelbroadlyassociatedwithschoolingatYear9isLevel9.Studentachievementwillbereportedagainsttheachievementstandardsindicatingthelevelofattainmentreachedbyeachstudentandtheageexpectedlevelofattainment.3.WorkHabitsStudentsareassessedintheWorkHabitsofEffort,ClassBehaviour,MeetingDeadlinesandOrganisation

HOMEWORK Homestudyreinforcesthedevelopmentofskillsinorganisation,planningandself-managementthatarecrucialinassistingstudentstobecomeindependentlearners.ItisexpectedthatstudentsinYear9willcompleteaminimumof8to10hourshomeworkperweek.Studentsshouldsetasideregulartimesintheweekthatwillbestsuittheirscheduleofactivities.Thistimeshouldbeusedtoensurethatallrequiredwork(sethomework,incompleteclasswork,assignments,andtestrevision)iscompletedandsubmittedforassessmentbytheduedate.MathematicsandGermanrequireregularpractice,and,forEnglish,itisessentialthatthereadingofsettextsandindependentlyselectedbooksisanightlypractice.AStudentHomeworkandStudyPlannerisprovidedforeachstudenttofacilitatetherecording,organisationandmanagementofhomework.Parentscanassistthisprocessbyregularlycheckingthathomeworkhasbeenrecorded.ThisCourseInformationBookletshouldbekeptinasafeplaceforreferencethroughouttheyear.LikethePlanner,itassistsstudentsinmonitoringtheirprogress

E NGL I SH A S AN A DDI T I ONA L LA NGUA GE (EAL) OverviewContentEALstudentsareahighlydiversegroup,ofdifferentages,atdifferentstagesoflearningEnglish,fromdifferingfirst-languagebackgroundsandwithvaryingamountsofeducationintheirfirstlanguage.ThesubjectEALaccommodatesthisbyprovidingEnglishlanguagedevelopmentwithinasetofstandardsdescribingexpectationsforEALlearners.Thesecondarystages(Year7-10)ofEALlearningaredescribedasS1,S2,S3andS4,andprovideasetofpractical,observablewaysinwhichstudentsarelikelytodemonstratetheirachievementsinEnglishlanguagelearning. Foreachtheme,studentswillundertakearangeofactivitiestodevelopskillsthatwillhelpthemtoachievesuccessinYear10andbeyond.Communication,timemanagement,datapresentation,multimediaandotherskillareaswillbeexplored.Duringeachterm,studentswillcompleteamajorassessmenttaskutilizingarangeofICTandmultimediaprograms.Thisworkwillbeevaluatedandthenbedisplayedtocelebratethestudents’achievements.Amajorcomponentoftheprogramwillbeexcursionstovariousinstitutesaswellastheuseofguestspeakerstoexplorethevariousthemes.A4-daychallengecampwillbeheldinDecembertodevelopindividualandteamskills.KeySkillsOncompletionofthiscoursestudentsareableto:
