English To write a balanced argument
Today, you are going to write
your balanced argument focusing
on the question ‘Should mobile
phones be banned for children
under the age of 12?’
You planned for this on Thursday
last week. Take some time to look
back at your plan to remind
yourself.
Balanced argument checklist
Have you …
Written an introduction
explaining the
question/issue?
Written at least 2 arguments
for and against?
Used interesting
conjunctions?
Written a conclusion
recapping on the question and
summarising the points?
Remember to use the causal
and contrasting conjunctions
we looked at last Monday.
To edit and improve my
balanced argument.
Today, take some time to
finalise and then edit and
improve your writing.
Use this checklist to help you.

To understand and use parenthesis.
Grammar Focus: Parenthesis
At school, we begun looking at using
parenthesis in our writing.
Parenthesis is a word, phrase, or
clause inserted into a sentence to add
extra information. Commas, dashes
or brackets may be used. When a
parenthesis is removed, the sentence
still makes sense on its own.
Work through this BBC bitesize
parenthesis lesson.

s/zn8c47h
All to complete Activity 1.
Mild:
Complete today’s English task saved
in the Showbie resources folder. There is no expectation of you to write
onto the Showbie document. If this is
challenging, write it into your home
learning book.
Spicy:
Complete ‘Activity 2’ as stated on the
BBC webpage.
To plan a creative piece of
writing
TIME TO SHOW OFF
YOUR SKILLS!
Over the next two days, you
are going to work on a
creative piece of writing.
We would like you to write a
poem, a story, a diary entry or
maybe even a letter. You pick!
To inspire your writing, take a
look at the images on the
literacy shed.
https://www.literacyshed.com/
the-images-shed.html
Can you base your writing off
one of these images?
Take today to plan your
writing. Maybe you’d like to
think about the adjectives,
adverbs, verbs and nouns you
will use? Do you need to think
about how to structure your
writing?
In the Showbie resources
folder, you will find a
planning proforma you may
want to use to help you.
To produce a creative
piece of writing.
TIME TO SHOW OFF
YOUR SKILLS!
Use your plan to write
your piece.
If you would like to
show off your skills, you
may upload these to
Showbie for us to read.
Although, this is not an
expectation.
Happy writing!
